Are you a winter colouring? If so come and join us for chat about clothes/make up following on from here.

Queen - what colour are your eyebrows and lashes? these may be providing contrast as well as your other features.

ElizabethBathory · 19/11/2013 21:19

I guess you've seen this post on blonde winters? I do agree it's hard to see the contrasts but it does become more obvious when she's in the right colours, to me. There's an iciness to blonde winters that I think is really cool... There's a platinum blonde woman where I work who wears deep wintery reds and looks stunning and ice queenish.

QueenCadbury · 19/11/2013 21:28

eliz I've pm'd you. I'm definitely a winter as I could see it clearly when I was draped but still don't see where my contrast is. Ny thoughts?

I jumped in at the end of the last thread having recently been 'done' and diagnosed as a Jewell Winter. If I'm not careful I'm going to end up with a wardrobe full of red tops!

Can anyone recommend a cream blusher? The Chanel ones are nice but the assistant was steering me towards shade 63 (much pinker off-line) and said that 64 and 65 would be too bright.

SorrelForbes · 19/11/2013 21:44

A lin would help.

QueenCadbury · 19/11/2013 22:07

eliz I just got totally wrapped up in that link. I hadn't seen it before but after reading it and some if the other stuff about bright winters it all makes a lot more sense! Thanks for linking Smile

Hi,

I'm a bit confused about the different types of winters! I had my colours one a few years ago and was assessed as a cool deep. How does this equate to winter? Does anyone know?

I suit fuschia, purple, navy, cobalt blue...

Thanks! :-)

MissScatterbrain · 20/11/2013 07:15

Rosie - was that with Colour Me Beautiful?

At HoC, they rate each colour in your season - from double starred (wow) to single ticks and also percentages, from 100% (full outfit) to 25% (accessories only). The type you are depends on your double starred colours.

Most winters can wear the majority of the colours in their palette but many of us find the rating system useful e,g I can't wear a lot of hot pink but look great if I add a scarf in that colour. You may need to experiment with your colours to see which ones are your best ones Smile

beautiful cobalt blue fine jumper

bettybigballs · 20/11/2013 09:43

Thanks for the finding style link queen, have you had a style day? Is it worth it?

The video was really interesting and I just couldn't place myself in any of the sections.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 20/11/2013 10:06

Queen yes, thank you for that link! Now I know I'm definitely not an ingenue. Grin

I found another video by that same woman which has the full colour wheel in it. I find the full colour wheel really useful when I'm looking at a particular colour - I can think to myself, 'Wait, I think that is more of a summer colour' or 'Nope, definitely fits with the autumn section'. It can be quite hard to tell what is 'bright' enough or 'clear' enough except in comparison to other seasons.

I quite wish they would give us the whole colour wheel as part of the analysis, to make it easier to tell, but having it available on this video is helpful in part.

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 10:38

I haven't looked at the colour wheel links yet but they sound very useful. I also still find it hard to identify winter colours. I think the swatches we are given are too small! If we could have a collection of the scarves it would be much easier... The other day I was trying to work out if a blue jumper I have is a winter blue. I put it against the electric blue and royal blue swatches, and decided it was close enough to both to be wintery. But then I got out my cobalt blue jumper and next to that, the other jumper looked really grey and muted Confused I think it's just practice. The differences between each season's shades, especially the blues, pinks and greens, are quite subtle sometimes so it's not surprising they're hard to see.

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 10:51

RosieLig, There's a description of deep, cool winters here - I think it's using an american system so maybe not the same as CMB, but if you fit this description then you're probably a sultry winter in HOC terms.

MissScatterbrain · 20/11/2013 11:40

Interesting link but my colouring is quite different from the description. I am nowhere near being olive skinned! Confused This is why using online diagnosis sites can be a minefield.

As for being able identify colours, it does take time (I was diagnosed several years ago and my job in design helps).

MissScatterbrain · 20/11/2013 11:41

KB - cute dress!

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 11:49

Are you talking about my link MissS? My skin's nowhere near olive either, but I think it would count as light (very light) cool beige. It's not very pink like a lot of very pale English/Irish skin types, and can look yellow in the wrong colours. So I'm not the sultryest of sultry winters :)

KosherBacon · 20/11/2013 11:54

When you say olive, you automatically think darker skin tones. I am a pale olive, so not cool but not quiet warm either. We struggle to get good foundation shade matches

ElizabethBathory · 20/11/2013 11:58

Agree with that Kosher! I'm using YSL touche eclat in BR (beige rose) 20 at the moment. It's a smidgen too pale, but the next darker shade was far too cool and looked grey/pink on my skin. OTOH their 'beige dore' shades are far too yellow. Very pale + neutral toned doesn't seem to figure in the cosmetics industry Hmm

KosherBacon · 20/11/2013 12:08

Yep. Makeup either has pink or yellow undertones. Very few manufacturers do neutral and if they do, it often has a peach undertone (such as Estée Lauder). I have tried the YSL TE and it didn't suit my skin.

MissScatterbrain · 20/11/2013 12:57

Hmm...I am pale, don't tan easily, don't have brown/hazel eyes. I think the best way to describe my colouring is Celtic/Irish. I look sallow in the wrong colours though.

carrie74 · 20/11/2013 13:35

I'm finding it hard to identify myself as a winter - to me it's someone with clear blue or deep brown eyes - like Nigella, or Courtney Cox. I've got muddy green eyes, freckly skin on my face. I really feel the need to see real people (with my colouring or similar) wearing winter stuff to be inspired. Am currently trawling the internet looking for images, which is all good.

Anyway, so I thought I'd see what Kate Moss favours, and did a quick search on Pinterest. Lots of black (of course), but also bright whites, greys, the odd bright red etc. Could she also be a winter...?

carrie74 · 20/11/2013 13:41

And also, what would the professionals on this threads do with this: leather jacket

I only bought it this year as an investment piece, I LOVE it and want to wear it forever, but I wonder if it's just too brown? (I think it was described as grey, but I don't think there's any denying it's warm not cool).

SorrelForbes · 20/11/2013 13:59

I'm using No7 Lift and Luminate foundation in Cool Ivory which seems to work well.

SorrelForbes · 20/11/2013 14:01

I'm looking for a charcoal grey handbag. Something slouchy with one strap and under £150.
