Oh, I was looking at their sale, that's all. Grin.

SorrelForbes · 26/02/2014 09:31

On second thoughts I think the neck line on that blue dress is a bit high for me.

I quite like Dust Embellished Tee Dress this. Could be ideal for summer holiday evenings.

bettybigballs · 26/02/2014 12:49

Hello hello winters! Hope everyone's well? Loving that dress Sorrel

I had my style day yesterday and I'm now even more confused than before. I really wanted to be able to come out of being able to define my style...

The first bit was brilliant, going through the mix and match, lifestyle etc but I'm struggling with the diagnosis. Apparently i'm a romantic natural. I'm not feeling the ruffles, fringing and embellishments. Does anyone know any celeb Romantic naturals i could have a look at to suss out? Isn't Romantic and natural a contradiction??

Hugely confused!

KosherBacon · 26/02/2014 12:53

Gosh Betty, I'm not sure- why not email your consultant and ask if there are any famous ones? I'm booking mine in for April- very excited already.

bettybigballs · 26/02/2014 12:55

Ohhh that's a great idea Kosher. WIll do that right now.

QueenCadbury · 26/02/2014 13:08

betty I'm an ingenue natural so that must be one step down from you. So I need to add interest and details to my clothes without adding formality. So I wear a lot of jeans and tops but for me it's good to have tops with pintucks or broderie anglaise or some other feminine detail. Presumably for you you pick clothes draping and ruffles etc. it totally sums me up and I feel more confident in my clothing choices now as I often worried about looking frumpy. It's a shame if you're not feeling it though.

Fooogle · 26/02/2014 13:41

Oops ordered an electric blue version of that dress (but the top) face... Blush... will see how it looks

I hope you work it out Betty. Can you do a pinterest search too?
I'm a bit scared that if I do the style day I will not be able to get dressed in the morning as it'd require too much thinking!

bettybigballs · 26/02/2014 14:10

Queen that's interesting about ingenue natural, it's the ruffles and frills i'm not feeling, prefer the idea of lower key detail iyswim.

I missed the fact that the celebs are on the sheet... Jade jagger, catherine zeta jones, Fergie, Nigella and Beyonce.

googling madly to find out more!

foogle everything else about the day was really useful and will def help getting dressed in the morning. Makes you apply your wardrobe to what you do with your tie: work / hobbies / socialising etc. It's made me see the gaps
(but now not sure what to fill them with ha!)

sewbee50 · 26/02/2014 15:06

The main reason I'm putting off the style day is exactly your experience betty I'm worried I'll have to wear ruffles and drapings when I love neat and tailored. I thought the style day was about suiting your look to your personality as well as your shape?

Hopefully · 26/02/2014 15:15

Just stopping by to see if Fooogle was doing ok and noticed the Romantic Natural diagnosis crisis!

Frills and ruffles are definitely not compulsory - imagine how daft Nigella would look in a frilly shirt or lots of embellishment. I'm sure your consultant will be able to help you much more, but Romantic Natural is sort of a curvy dramatic, so you want to add theatre and drama to your look, but not in a pointy/androgynous way. It can encompass a lot of 'characters' from Carmen Miranda to a highwayman in terms of how you choose to interpret it. Focus on the key words at the top of the sheet (theatrical/interesting/eye catching/exotic/musketeers/gypsy queen). Basically avoid boring Grin.

Hopefully · 26/02/2014 15:18

sewbee yes, the style day is very much about personality not just body shape - my body shape allows for lots of 50s wiggle dresses and tailored suiting, but I feel like a pillock in it, so my clothing personality is something entirely different (I'm a natural dramatic, so nothing classic or 'pretty' etc). It's a lot of information to take in over one day though, and people often need a little time to let it settle in before they really 'get' their diagnosis. I quite often have clients pop back in for a cup of tea if they are struggling, and usually just chatting it through again clears any confusion.

Used2bthin · 26/02/2014 20:11

Hi everyone , can I join even though I haven't had my colours done?

I am definitely a winter, I have always been good at colour stuff, my friend also had hers done and is a winter and we suit the same colours. I am not sure which winter I am though having looked at the kettlewell site.

I thought I would be a jewel winter but then the kettlewell site offers cool, war, or bold I think and possibly bold looked more like my colours. Jade green has always been a great colour on me and also navy but it has to be the right navy.

Anyway I was wondering if you could help me? I have been given £100 to spend on workwear. I had nothing at all and am recently in a job where I have to dress more formally than my previous job. So far I have a navy pencil skirt, a black pencil skit, grey trousers then for tops I have two navy blouses, a couple of black long vests then cardigans in navy, teal and black and white then a grey and black jumper. With my £100 I could get either a good navy blazer, a good shift dress, or get cheaper bits and buy maybe one of them and some other bits, another jumper perhaps, some ballet pumps, maybe some basic tops to go under cardigans?

What would you do? And has anyone seen any nice work stuff in winter colours?

sewbee50 · 26/02/2014 20:16

I'm no expert but your colour choices thus far are based on the neutrals. black/grey/navy/white. How about a splash of purple/cobalt/fuchsia/red to go under the cardis?

sewbee50 · 26/02/2014 20:17

Thanks hopefully :)

Used2bthin · 26/02/2014 21:26

Thanks sewbee yes that would probably help. I like the idea of using the money to get one good shift dress or jacket but would struggle to find a dress in a colour other than grey or navy I suspect.

Have you tried kettlewell colours? I love the range of colours but not blown away by the style of tops and they are pricey.

QueenCadbury · 26/02/2014 21:45

used if you need a jacket then that's probably a good thing to spend your money on. But what will you wear it with? If it doesn't match the skirt it may look funny, won't go with black skirt so that only leaves the grey trousers? Just wondering whether you should get a coloured jacket that could be worn with all 3 bottoms? Otherwise as sew suggested I would introduce some colour with tops. I've never bought kettlewell tops as they're too short and most have elastane in which I personally hate as it clings and rides up on me.

OP posts:
sewbee50 · 26/02/2014 21:52

Haven't succumbed yet to kettlewell - it's a bit mumsy - and I'm 50 Blush

Used2bthin · 26/02/2014 21:53

Ah ok thanks I will stay away from them too then as I have a very long body and tops often ride up on me too.

Yes you are right about the jacket. Only thing is I am not sure what colour I would be able to wear with the other stuff and in fact am not convinced that blazers suit me...

Shift dresses definitely would suit me but again its the colour thing unless I get one in dark navy or charcoal which I can then add the teal cardigan to or buy another colour cardigan too.

Or maybe I should get some stuff to go under the cardigans and maybe another blouse but in a colour.

Used2bthin · 26/02/2014 21:56

Sewbee thanks I think I should steer clear of them too then!

Anywhere got lots of winter colours in? Will have a flick back through the thread too. I got a nice teal cardigan from h and m btw, it was just the right shade for me, not too yellow toned I think is the best way to describe it.

Piratefairy · 26/02/2014 22:01

Do you think this dress is proper Chinese blue? It's not exactly my style, but I could possibly make it work if it's the right colour. Boden Ella dress

pinkflaming0 · 26/02/2014 22:45

I was diagnosed as a winter back in the 80's. When I first started following this thread I wasn't convinced I was a winter nor was I sure I wanted to be! The colours seemed harsh, garish and not very subtle.

But having read some of the great suggestions on here (especially for lipsticks) and looked at the links people have posted to blogs and clothes ideas I've started wearing brighter lipstick every day, have true red gel nails and am going for contrasts in my outfits - even if it is just (soft) red lips and red nails with a grey & black outfit.

I'm having my colours done in a couple of weeks and now I'm really hoping I AM a winter and am looking forward to finding out what kind of winter (hopefully) I am - fingers crossed!

MissScatterbrain · 27/02/2014 07:32

That dress looks like chinese blue.

Coloured cardigans is a good idea if you don't suit blazers - I use these along with layering tops to add colour to my outfits.

Flamingo - fingers crossed.

MissScatterbrain · 27/02/2014 07:33

(and teal isn't on the winter palette - there was a discussion upthread about whether it should be a winter colour)

Used2bthin · 27/02/2014 08:47

Thanks missscatterbrain I wonder if the cardigan I have isn't actually teal as I can't usually wear teal, it makes me look yellow and makes me look exhausted! But this cardigan is a lovely colour, I have had a few compliments on it so maybe it is more of a sea green or something.

Very cheap too so won't last long I don't suppose. I need more like it in better quality material with better buttons, it is long enough for me too (I am 5.9) and sits at my waist.

MissScatterbrain · 27/02/2014 09:25

Is it this one? H&M cardigan its a pretty cool based colour and looks like sea green which is a summer colour so probably why it looks lovely on you esp if worn with winter neutrals.
