Abouttime I'm a Jewell Winter too and I'm currently wearing:

Blusher shade 65

Lipstick shade 80

Lipstick shade 105

Eyeshadow in Midnight Look

Lip crayon in Statement

ElizabethBathory · 09/12/2013 12:02

Abouttime have a look through the previous HOC winters thread, linked in the OP - loads of make up recommendations there. I don't know what you're allergic to but one of my favourite blushers is Benefit Benetint. It's a very natural looking red flush (most blushers are peachy, brown or pink, so I think this is a great one for winters). I have sensitive skin on my cheeks and this doesn't irritate them at all.

Apart from that the majority of my favourite makeup is from Mac - I don't think they have very good 'natural/sensitive ingredients' credentials!

ElizabethBathory · 09/12/2013 12:04

Gah, Sorrel, stop tempting me with Chanel makeup Grin

SorrelForbes · 09/12/2013 12:06

Sorry Blush. I've got really sensitive skin expensive tastes so I tend to stick with the brands I know won't bring me out in a rash.

I do have the MUA naked palette but I only use the black and the grey!

ElizabethBathory · 09/12/2013 12:08

Abouttime are there any brands that you know you aren't allergic to? Maybe if you let us know we can help you choose winter colours from those brands?

QueenCadbury · 09/12/2013 12:39

little unless you go for a proper consultation then I think it is impossible to diagnose yourself. If silver and gold suits you then wear it. Personally on me gold looks awful.

Boring day of chores here and freezing as having the boiler changed so no heating on and the front door wide open! Wearing cobalt polo neck and jeans. Have got fuschia lippy on though Grin.

Oh carrie, yes, I too wish we had a cos ( and a uniqlo) as it's not the sort of shop you can't buy online from as there shapes are too weird.

OP posts:
QueenCadbury · 09/12/2013 12:45

If anyone followed my lead and bought a uniqlo tee, do not accidentally put it in the tumble dryer...

I took this jumper to my style day and I was right in thinking that it's not quite right. It fits more in with the summer pallete. Style wise though it's a perfect jumper for me. I've ordered some flamingo pink dye to see if I can just brighten it up a bit.

And elizabeth that green scarf you liked is a touch too warm. It doesn't match pine green but it doesn't quite fit in with the autumn colours either but it's definitely not right. I'm gong to dye it navy.

So 2 mistakes since April when I had my colours done. I knew they weren't right when I got them home but because they'd been bought in London I couldn't take them back. Ho hum. It was great to see all the coloured scarves again and play about with them though Grin

ElizabethBathory · 09/12/2013 12:57

Thanks Queen, I'll delete the scarf from my Pinterest in case I forget later and buy it! If the flamingo pink doesn't work on your jumper, try tulip red - I think it could make a good dark winter pink mixed with the original colour of the jumper.

carrie74 · 09/12/2013 16:23

So QueenC, how is the style day actually assessed? I can "get" the colours, but once style comes into play, it must be more than just your shape, your personality comes into it too? (And I suspect I could finally come to a conclusion on why whatever I wear, I never look cool).

ElizabethBathory · 09/12/2013 16:28

carrie I am wondering that too. I would be interested to see how much personal taste comes into it compared to body shape -there are lots of looks that I love, and I wonder whether the ones I love are the ones which suit me, iyswim. I think I'm going to make a pinterest board of my absolute favourite looks and see if there's a theme! Atm I am generally happy with my wardrobe, but I don't think I have a particular 'look'. My friend who's had her style day now always looks like she has her own style, and looks very pulled together and comfortable in it.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 09/12/2013 17:47

I had my style day! Hurrah!

It was great - they assess your body shape and then your 'clothing personality'. I now know which shape trousers to wear, which necklines, which everything. And she has said I need to wear belts, which is weird and freaks me out.

I'm a gamine with dramatic tendencies. Hmm I assumed I'd be a natural with either dramatic or gamine tendencies but this is an exciting combination. I will need to buy a lot more tailoring, apparently...so no more slopping around in Primark t-shirts sadly.

I am excited to try all this out.

QueenCadbury · 09/12/2013 18:00

She looked at my shape and I came out as straight on top and soft straight at the bottom and measured my neck, body and legs so you're advised what shapes suit you best. Then there's a personality bit to work out how yin or yang you are (male/female). Then looking at the items of clothing that I'd taken with me she went off (leaving me to play with swatches and lipsticks Grin) and came back with my diagnosis.

I always knew that stiff collars and skinnies and things didn't suit me but now I realise it's because I'm not angular or masculine. But equally I'm not totally soft and curvy so the romantic frills and flounces wouldn't suit me either. It was interesting as I had no idea what I'd be. I suspected some kind of natural as I like the easy look but don't like to look scruffy which is where the prettiness of the ingenue comes in to play.

I often felt that some of the clothes I chose leaned towards frumpy as most people favour skinnies, heels, statement necklace etc but now I feel validated in my choices knowing that they are totally right for me. Does that make sense?

Ooh cross post with face. How exciting! What sort of things do you need to wear?

I ordered this today to hopefully replace my shrunken grey tee.

Thanks for the recommendations ladies, I'm going to look tomorrow at the ingredients.

I'm allergic to limonene, 2 bromo 2 nitro propane 1 3 dial, benzoyl peroxide, balsam of Peru but am likely to be allergic to other stuff that I haven't yet been tested for.

I don't wear much make up at the moment. I use bare minerals powder & a couple of the loreal lip gloss.

When I get a chance I will read through the other thread but if anyone has any more recommendations in the meantime I would be very grateful.

LittleBabyPigsus · 09/12/2013 18:46

Sorry MissScatterbrain, thought the pins I linked to were HoC as CMB has a Clear Winter not a Bright Winter. Bright Winter is a neutral palette within the Winter season though, not cool, according to HoC. I cannot afford to get seen by a consultant yet so having to do it all online, sorry.

LittleBabyPigsus · 09/12/2013 18:48

Abouttime have you ever used Etsy? Lots of additive-free make-up on there, have a search. All the stores list their ingredients.

givemeaminute · 09/12/2013 18:53

Hi all, I was "diagnosed" as a burnished winter by HoC recently so best colours are royal purple, royal blue, navy, raspberry, carmine, Chinese blue and dark emerald. I've been looking on-line for ideas and "burnished winter" isn't a common description! Is it a new category for HoC?

Looking at my colours and on-line info, it seems to be somewhere between true winter and deep winter?

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 09/12/2013 19:03

I can't remember everything about my shapes and things, but I basically need to wear neat and tidy clothing with a bit of statement. No frills or flounces, no really strong statements. So a sleeveless shift knee length dress is good but add a big brooch or bangle or hair thingy (or all). At the moment I am crap at accessorising so there was some emphasis on making sure I add accessories. Grin

Am exhausted actually, as it was 7 hours long and now I need to do bedtime alone. So more later. Oh, and bought a load of lipsticks. Grin

LittleBabyPigsus · 09/12/2013 19:32

OK, checked on the Spring thread, I am a Winter since it's probably my own lip pigment (mine are very mauve) cooling down a warmish lipstick! I can't wear warm clothing, so I think Bright Winter it is.

CanIMakeItToChristmas · 09/12/2013 20:44

I'm a Jewel Winter. I've just bought this in Strength and [[http://www.bareminerals.co.uk/Marvelous-Moxie-Lipgloss/UKMasterMoxieLipgloss,default,pd.html this in Dare Devil]]
For blusher I've been using Fench Kiss and Dream Sequence eyeshadows

I'm not sure how their ingredients would be for you Abouttime but they do list them on the website.

Maraki · 09/12/2013 22:16

givemeaminute I am a burnished winter too! My best colours are the same as yours, apart from chinese blue.

Burnished winter means that our skin has a slight natural tone, so we can get away with chocolate brown and mixed metals (gold + silver) jewelry. Soft, dark colours suit us best, therefore darl cherry red as opposed to bright red, dark charcoal grey as opposed to black, navy as opposed to black. We are still winters though, so contrast works well, i.e. a white shirt worn under a drak purple cardigan.

Makeup wise:
Estee Lauder doublewear in Ecru (pale and neutral tone)
N7 powder in medium light
blushers: HOC no37 (for burnished winters only, this matches everything), mac dollymix, mac swoon
Dark grey liquid eyeliner or black.
Bobbi brown eyeshadow in rockstar (as worn by Kate Middleton on her wedding day!) to cover lid discoloration, it looks very natural, just adds a hint of shimmer
Lipsticks: HOC no27 (bright red, sometimes this feels too bright), HOC no54 (perfect fuschia), revlon lip butter in red velvet (dark red, good for everyday), mac plumfull (neutral natural pink/mauve). I am planning on adding clinique chubby stick in Pudgy Peony
Nail varnishes: OPI got the blues for you red, OPI Mrs O'leary's bbq (perfect match with revlon red velvet lip butter), nails inc piccadilly circus (goos with all the pink / fischia lipsticks), OPI LIncoln after dark

givemeaminute · 09/12/2013 22:57

Maraki - nice to find another burnished, I'm not alone! Thanks for all the makeup tips. Although the HoC lady tried me in bright lipsticks, I feel that I suit something in between the brights and the darks, both feel like just too much contrast and I either look like a clown or a vampire .....! But i am converted to the idea that lipstick makes your eyes sparkle! I will look for your suggestions. I did look for the Revlon Red Velvet but the local shops didn't have it in their Revlon range. Too small, I guess.

Have you spotted any good shops for clothes this season? I'm finding a lot of the bright reds, greens, pinks but they aren't great for me. I can do the navy and charcoal but would like to brighten it up with the right blues, greens and reds. I've done a lot of Internet shopping but most of it is going back as the colours are either too bright, or too yellowy (especially the reds).

KosherBacon · 10/12/2013 06:28

Ohh... What's a burnished winter? How does it differ from sultry?

As for makeup. I wore my berry smoothie lip butter for the first time in a couple of weeks and it almost got lost on me. I realise I look better in bolder shades. I'm currently loving my Revlon Bordeaux gloss, a good deep berry red.
