nigella where there other people there or just you? I found it incredibly useful having others at the colours day so I'm just hoping I'll get the same out if the style day being alone.

No I went on my own. It was great though! The lady was very good indeed.

QueenCadbury · 06/12/2013 16:00

Thanks nigella. That's reassuring.

I had mine on my own and it was great, same lady Queencadbury. Interested to find out your style!

KosherBacon · 07/12/2013 11:51

How long does it take if you are on your own? Is it a whole day or do you get through it quicker?

bertandmarble · 07/12/2013 17:22

I did it in an afternoon

KosherBacon · 07/12/2013 17:34

I am currently lusting after this statement necklace. I have just spent a FORTUNE on new glasses and can't justify the cost (to DH- I can always justify it to myself!).

KosherBacon · 08/12/2013 08:52

QueenCadbury how did your style day go? Tell us about it. And did you wear your Viv dress yet? What did you put with it?

MissScatterbrain · 08/12/2013 09:28

KB - stunning necklace, I have a similar one and I love wearing it although I should wear it more often.

Would love to hear about style days too.

My DM had her colours done a few days ago - an early xmas present from me and she LOVED it. She is a blue spring (which means she has warmth as well as a bit of coolness in her skin tone) and she has already cleared her wardrobe, bought new make up and is talking about going shopping Grin Another convert to the HOC cult Grin

The most amazing day yesterday! I'm officially an ingenue natural! So, I'm a natural with ingenue traits.

Natural is...
Clothes with movement
Natural fabrics and textured materials ignores the fact that most my wardrobe is polyester
Soft, unconstructed lines in beautiful textures
Casual, easy look
Outdoorsy
Relaxed

I then need to add delicate touches for the ingenue part...
Small scle accessories
Small scale floral patterns
Lighter weight footwear
Small pretty buttons
Scalloped edges
Knitted, lace, crochet finishes, baby cables and pointelle knits.

It's all very me and the most interesting thing is why things don't work. So structured clothes, stiff fabrics, stiff collars, large patterns, big jewellery, v necks are definitely not for me. It's also kind of given me permission to ditch the plain tees and enjoy wearing my blouses more without feeling over dressed and to buy tees with detailing such as pintucks which I like but was put off as thought they may be frumpy but now I know they suit me.

So definitely a good day and now I'm off to create a new Pinterest board!

How interesting - I have a friend who is an ingenue and she looks great in what I would call pretty clothes. V. different to how I would dress.

NigellasTinsellyGuest · 08/12/2013 21:24

QueenCadbury - that's wonderful news! So it was ok on your own? I think Style days are fantastic (I am a dramatic gamine). So good that you know your style now - it allows everything to fall into place....

LittleBabyPigsus · 08/12/2013 21:30

Hi everyone.

I think my worry is that I am a student on a budget, plus I am also plus-sized (22-24) so have a limited group of shops to buy from. I don't want to get told about clothes I either can't afford or can't fit into! At least I suit black which is what most plus-size shops are full of, but I love colour and hate that I can't wear nice clothes (and I am healthy so don't want to have to lose weight just to fit into particular clothes IYSWIM).

So what are the HoC Winter categories? In CMB they are Clear Winter, Cool Winter and Deep Winter. I have to wear brights so I think Bright Winter in HoC? Also neutral skin tone, can wear both gold and silver.

MissScatterbrain · 08/12/2013 21:34

Nigella - tell us what kind of things a dram gamine can wear Smile

Little - the thing about gold and silver makes me think you could be a blue spring as under hoc, only blue springs can wear both. Hoc winters definitely can't wear gold. With a student budget, you are better off sticking to a palette of colours you feel suit you best.

QueenCadbury · 08/12/2013 21:44

nigella it was fine on my own thanks. It was good to have time to ask questions properly and show her clothes that I was uncertain about.

littlebaby I'm a bright winter but I can't wear gold. If your shops are mainly full of black you could add colour with jewellery or scarves in whatever colours suit you best.

Queen that's great to hear! I am tempted more than ever Grin My friend who I did the colours day with did the style day later and is a natural ingenue too. She already dressed more or less that way, but whenever I see her now she has some extra pretty detail that suits her, like a hair slide or dangly earrings. And she can wear ruffle blouses without looking at all frumpy or overdressed!

Nigella I'm also interested in hearing what a dramatic gamine can wear. I've guessed in the past that I might be a gamine ingenue, but am not v sure about the ingenue part - I have a hidden goth past and sometimes veer in that direction in certain moods, and it always feels very me (or maybe I'm just reconnecting with my teenage side...)

LittleBabyPigsus · 08/12/2013 22:06

Is Blue Spring the same as Bright Spring? Can anyone link to a palette as I can't find anything on Blue Springs. HoC Spring colours don't look great on me though, not saturated enough. Will re-test myself with gold and silver (I don't wear jewellery so need to go to H Samuels or something!). I look good in standard Winter colours so I am confused. My two go-to colours are royal blue and bright red. I am never sure of when other colours look good on me or not.

ElizabethBathory · 08/12/2013 22:10

Oh yes, kosher, I haven't quite decided where to take DH for dinner but that was a very helpful thread!

LittleBabyPigsus · 09/12/2013 02:49

Hmm, this pinterest pin says Bright Winters CAN wear both gold and silver:

MissScatterbrain · 09/12/2013 08:14

Little - most of us were analysed by HOC and they tell us that silver is cool and should be worn by cool seasons. Also when paired with warm colours, can easily look cheap. Vice versa for gold.

These boards have some similarities but were created using a different system (e.g CMB).

carrie74 · 09/12/2013 08:32

Ooh. QueenC sounds v exciting and loving your pins.

Can't see up thread on phone but loving the Cos necklace. Wish we had a Cos down here in Bristol /Bath.

Black skinnies today, black super long T layered under v sloppy pale grey jumper, topped with pale grey and fuschia zebra scarf. Accompanying DD's Y4 class on trip today. Sought her approval first [grin ].

MissScatterbrain · 09/12/2013 10:52

(Little - not sure if this would help but if you go on the Spring colours thread, there is a post about Blue Springs on page 14)

MissScatterbrain · 09/12/2013 10:56

Black casual tunic dress with stripy long sleeve top underneath and a red snood & lippy Smile

Abouttime · 09/12/2013 11:45

Can I have some make up recommendations please, lots of them too cos I am allergic to a shed load of ingredients so have to check them & usually can't buy much.

I was told I was a winter jewel by HoC last May.

I need lipsticks, eye shadows & blusher.

Thanks
