kosher I've given up on berry smoothie too. It's just too pale. I need the bright pink colours to make my eyes pop!

Kosher someone else might be able to tell us the difference between sultry and burnished. As a newbie to this, I'm definitely confused!

I've got that berry smoothie lipstick, it's virtually a nude on me. Think I need something a little stronger.

Negroni · 10/12/2013 08:44

Hello! New to the thread but was lurking on the last one (before my colour day confirmed I was a winter). I had my colours done a couple of months ago and am a jewel winter.

On the burnished/ sultry question, my consultant explained that sultry was for those who suited the darker end of the winter colour spectrum and that within sultry there was burnished suiting the v dark colours like pine, burgundy etc and jewel, like me, whose best colours were chinese blue, royal purple etc. So I understood both jewel and burnished were sub sets of sultry. Hope that is right...please correct me if you think it isn't!

And glad to have reason to join the thread finally ( not that you need a reason, of course)...

ElizabethBathory · 10/12/2013 10:07

Wow, another type of winter to join us! Welcome burnisheds! Maraki that was a great makeup post.

Re. berry smoothie I know what you mean. My berry smoothie got destroyed within a couple of uses - turned to mush - but I have a similar Chanel pink which seemed so bright when I first bought it, but now when I wear it just looks like a nude to me.

I wonder if this effect is going to continue and we're all just going to get into brighter and brighter colours and end up looking like this?

Negroni · 10/12/2013 10:30

That picture is hilarious!

Is that some kind of winter-friendly ice blue that she is wearing on her eye lids? Grin

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 10/12/2013 10:56

Elizabeth, that is what I am aiming for now. Grin

ElizabethBathory · 10/12/2013 11:10

Is there a type of winter that suits the icy end of the spectrum? Lots of us suit the dark and bright sections, but haven't heard from anyone who looks best in the ice colours.

I might email my consultant to see if she can explain sultry/burnished/jewel differences.

ElizabethBathory · 10/12/2013 11:44

OK, my colours consultant has already replied! I told her my best colours (just to check I have it right) and she said:

Burnished winters are the 'soft' end, mole, burgundy, carmine, grey, royal purple. Sultry tend to be the dark end navy, damson, charcoal, pine. Some people fall between several stools, which is not unusual. Scarlet, electric blue and light emerald are Jewel winter colours, so you fall between jewel and sultry. This is just a guideline but when I saw the colours and maybe you in the burgundy lipstick sultry felt right.

MissScatterbrain · 10/12/2013 12:34

Interesting reply - looks like I fall between sultry and burnished as my best colours are mole, burgundy, navy, charcoal, pine and black. The other colours in these categories e,g grey, royal purple and damson are great on me but only 75%.

Grin at the pic.

Maraki · 10/12/2013 14:39

To be honest I have given up with the winter sub-divisions, this is getting just TOO complicated for me...I'm just concentrating on cool colours at the moment and avoiding the very bright reds. Nearly a year after my diagnosis, I am still getting to terms with it....The HOC blusher for burnished winters (No.34) is spot on though.

(I was a highlights addict with a wardrobe full of corals and beiges and nude lipsticks for over 20 years)

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 10/12/2013 14:44

Yep, I think the subdivisions don't matter too much. I think there is so much to be gained from just knowing that some colours are going to look better on you, that some are going to look fantastic, and that you know how to recognise which ones look best.

You are training your eyes, right? Not just following someone else's instructions. You learn for yourself how to tell when you look good, because you won't have a consultant at your shoulder all the time. They just help sometimes if you need it, like for a shopping day every few years, or an accessories workshop (both quite exciting prospects for me).

QueenCadbury · 10/12/2013 14:54

I suit iced blue and one of the iced purple shades (hyacinth maybe?). They're just impossible to find though. Unless I get eyeshadow a la Barbara Cartland!

Hello!

I am a jewel winter too, bordering on Sultry. I have been following this and the last thread. I was 'diagnosed' in May but it has taken me a while to clear out my wardrobe and save for some new bits. Luckily I already had a lipstick habit so had plenty that already suited.

My best colours are Dark emerald, Pine, Navy, Indigo, Royal purple, Royal Blue, Raspberry, Carmine, Fuschsia, Damson and Burgundy. A few of the ice colours I had a star at 50% so have been looking out for those.
I went mad when Gap had 40% off the other day and bought this in oxford purple, which was a pretty good match for the Ice Lavender swatch and this in quince, which was a good match for Ice Aqua.

Also bought

this in fuchsia stripe.
this in Navy
this in Navy
these in Ruby Wine
and am waiting for this in Navy to arrive.

I would love some things in Raspberry or Carmine but have not seen anything I fancy anywhere. I am also finding a lot of the burgundies in the shops lean too far to brown.

I am also on the look out for a coat with a hood for the school run but really can't see anything I like anywhere. i would quite like a parka or duffle coat but definitely not anything padded/duvet like. I am a 32GG and could do without anything adding extra inches!

Any suggestions welcome!

ElizabethBathory · 10/12/2013 16:23

Love that fuchsia stripe top JimJam, and the ruby wine skinnies!

MissScatterbrain · 10/12/2013 17:26

Wow, that's a decent haul - love the fuchsia stripe too and also the zip t-shirt. I have a couple of their ankle skimmer skinnies (black and chinese blue) and I love wearing these.

givemeaminute · 10/12/2013 19:39

I like those ruby wine jeans Jimjamatron ! I think I'm between the sizes that they have in stock though Sad .

I got this from TopShop recently. Lovely. It's actually deep red and deep green but looks red and black in the pic. Perfect colours for me.

LittleBabyPigsus · 10/12/2013 20:03

Lipstick recommendation - Topshop lipstick (yes really, it's great quality) in Beguiled is a fab vampy plum. They have other vampy shades at the moment but have not tried them. I'm currently on the hunt for a dark red though - for some reason this seems to be quite hard to find! Nothing purpleish or burgundy, like the colour of this photo? Maybe a shade deeper. MUA Luxe lip lacquer in the red shade looks good in the tube but it's not as deep when on.

Jimjamatron · 10/12/2013 20:09

I like the skirt Givemeaminute. I love all the tartan stuff that is in the shops. They have the skinny khakis in a similar ruby wine colour in more sizes here I have tried those on in store and they are a similar shape to the ankle zip jeans, a bit less generous on the sizing though - I find Gap Jeans quite big size wise.

Yes, MissScatterbrain, I did go a bit mad -partly because I hadn't been shopping for months and partly fuelled by 40% discount including off sale stuff. Feel like I am pretty sorted for basics now, I just need a few bits that have more of a personality. Maybe I should do the style day.

QueenCadbury · 10/12/2013 21:18

Great shopping jim

I bought this hat today. I totally love it. I have black and grey hats but oh my, the navy really helps light up my face. Who knew that colours on your head could ate such a difference too?

OP posts:
QueenCadbury · 10/12/2013 21:57

face who are you on pintetest? I've just seen that you're starting a winter dramatic gamine board. Not my style but I do love following anything with winter colours.

OP posts:
FaceDirectionOfTravel · 10/12/2013 22:08

This is my Pinterest board

Am trying to go for clothes that are my colours, clothing personality and body shape. I've sent it to my consultant too to see if she has any thoughts. The gamine look is quite specific and since I'm not particularly petite there are several elements to it that I can't pull off, so I'm working with some quite strict parameters, I think!

We'll see.

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 10/12/2013 23:39

You all hate it!

LittleBabyPigsus · 10/12/2013 23:49

Face I love the Celtic wolf brooch! I think I tend to go for dresses myself rather than separates, and would rather keep black for funerals - unfortunately the shops I can shop in (plus size shops) love black to cover us fatties up. At least I look good in black!

FaceDirectionOfTravel · 10/12/2013 23:58

Thank you Little. Dresses really feel like dressing up to me, still. I think I need to change my mindset about that...

LittleBabyPigsus · 11/12/2013 01:02

Maybe try shorter dresses with thicker leggings and boots? Just a step up from tunics with trousers or jeggings.
