Whether it is worth the money is really dependant on you and your circumstances ebay!

If you are struggling to pay your mortgage / rent, I wouldn't do it!
If you are happy with your current style, can easily tell if something is you or not, and always have something that you can wear for any occasion, I wouldn't do it.

If you feel lost in the shops, find it hit and miss whether you find something you like and still feel comfortable in a month later, copy other peoples looks to try and blend but feel it makes you stick out like a sore thumb, have some clothes that make you feel fabulous when you wear them but also often feel frumpy / mumsy / lacking in confidence / unsure of yourself a lot of the time, and have lots clothes you have bought, worn once or twice then left at the back of the drawer then its probably money well spent and will save you money in the ever so slightly longer term!

Not sure if that will help, it isn't for everyone (you just have to look at some other threads to know that) but usually to be seriously considering it, theres probably a reason why?

jumpinghoops · 17/11/2013 21:36

Ooh Glasses, Alex was the one that did my style day- she was brilliant. I didn't know she had tv clips up.

I found the style day fantastic as it got to the crux of my problem- I was buying the wrong things in spring colours so even though the colours were right I always, always felt frumpy and somehow lacking something. I guessed I was a classic but not the ingenue bit, Joycey glad to hear we are + another classic ingenue :)

jumpinghoops · 17/11/2013 21:38

Outfit sounds fab Mumelie, got to love those h&m gems!

ebaymad · 17/11/2013 21:43

Thanks for the reply butterfliesandflowers

Has it really helped you shop better?

I make lots of mistakes with clothes, If it helped me shop better it would indeed be worth it!

I think it sounds very interesting and I would love to know what type I am. It must be quite in-depth because it takes all day.

ebaymad · 17/11/2013 21:51

Actually I would put money on me being a Classic Ingenue...Grin

TomYumSoup · 18/11/2013 10:42

Just wanted to say Hi although will apologise in advance as I rarely post Blush I have just had my colours done and it turns out I am a blue spring. Am a bit shell shocked as I suspected I was an Autumn and had been lurking and buying on that thread for months. Aque, my ** colours are less than yours lol - mine are dove grey, oxford blue, violet, hyacinth, turquoise & aquamarine. I am at a total loss. I have been reading all weekend and am still not much further forward. One of the things I struggle with is being able to tell if something in my wardrobe matches my swatches or how close it has to be. I feel things look slightly different in different materials. I keep checking with DH to see what he thinks. That's before I get on to what to wear with what. Grin

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 18/11/2013 10:59

Hi in terms of swatch matching it's best I think to just check that the clothing colour tones in with the swatches you see before you.

Aquelven · 18/11/2013 14:43

Hi TomYum Smile

So you've the same as me ** except you haven't even got Leaf Green & Aqua, so only six! Not easy is it? Confused

About your matching problem, my consultant had a very good explanation. She said, if you're not sure, don't try to match to the swatches exactly. Instead open out your full wallet & hold it against the clothing item. If it blends in & looks good, then it will be right. If it stands out, clashes or just doesn't blend then it's probably wrong. She said we don't have just the 30 or so colours given in our swatches, we have hundreds( even thousands) of colours & shades, the swatches are just a guide.

BeginnerSAHM · 18/11/2013 15:10

Hi Tomyum and ifyou'rehappy!

Agree about holding the swatches and seeing if they blend... (Not that i actually do it as I'm too embarrassed... Am still in the closet Wink.)

Am feeling v frumpy today although in correct spring colours. Beige l/s t with coral fitted cardie (good style points as at least it shows my small waist) over the top. Indigo skinny jeans (for a change Wink), tan thin belt and my (warm) tan biker boots. Off to put on some delicate dangly gold earrings in an attempt to 'ingenue' the look. A tiny bit anyway. Am finding that hard at the moment! Much easier to do the 'natural' bit! Need an online etsy shopping spree, don't I Gilly?!? Wink

Fooogle · 18/11/2013 15:48

Hello all new and olds!
I've been a bit Boden crazy today. Am sure most will go back but will try link them
www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Knitwear/Cardigans/WK858/Womens-Colourblock-Cardigan.html both versions to see if they can be of use...
www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Clearance/Womens-Knitwear/Cardigans/WK812/Womens-Embellished-Necklace-Cardigan.html
And finally www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Trousers-Jeans/Jeans/WC116/Womens-Bootcut-Jeans.html in a 14 Grin finally concede that may actually be a better fit and cut than skinnies...
Probably none will be really the thing I am after but...free returns Hmm she consoles herself...! Ordered quite a few things for Dd too. Thought I can ask people to give them to me for Christmas perhaps.
Can't believe how many classic ingénues are being diagnosed and blue springs. I intrigued as to whether I will be a yellow spring if I finally get on with my colour day.
I do envy the style'd amongst you as I feel a bit at sea with combining things at the moment. Think you can wear a tucked in blouse/shirt and cardi with skinnies or bootlegs? feel a bit 1970s Mum somehow...! I'd love to wear more skirts but am too lazy

TomYumSoup · 18/11/2013 15:53

Thanks for the tips about the swatches. I haven't really begun to sort out my wardrobe yet as I keep leaving it till afternoon then lose the daylight. I will keep going back over the thread as I am looking for a lippy and maybe scarf recommendations although at the moment I am wearing an oatmeal one which is two ticks at 50%

Lol at being in the closet SAHM I have told a couple of people and I suspect they think I am a fool Hmm

Mumelie · 18/11/2013 16:12

Hi TomYum, welcome to the thread. I'm after block colour scarves too (everything seems to be patterned). I picked up a leaf green ine in TK Maxx last year and have ordered this Boden one in bright red.
I'm being a subtle spring today - violet (ish) pencil skirt and oatmeal skinny fit cable jumper, violet tights and my tan Bertie boots (again). Big silver cuff and big silver hoop earrings. Does anyone else like to wear the purples from our palette? I love them at this time of year, although difficult to get bright enough.

Aquelven · 18/11/2013 16:57

Yes, I wear a lot of purple these days, it seems more cold weather than some of the blues somehow. All the bright turquoises shriek summer holidays to me though I notice there's LOTS of teal in the shops.
Where did you find your violet tights, Mumelie?

Those Boden things look promising,Fooogle. The colour block looks very springy & I like the trim & the peplum on the grey pondering does that mean I have some ingenue
You're all doing well with coloured tights & skirts. I keep wanting to do skirts, once had a career where it was frowned on if not in a skirt suit, but now I can't seem to ditch the practicality of trousers, mostly jeans.

I watched the video links & now feel more confused than ever as I don't seem to fit any of the types. Not posh enough for classic, don't like wafty, drapey, flowing silky things so not romantic. Definitely not dramatic, scares me to death. Natural looks a bit TOO casual for my taste( what I'm trying to get away from, jeans & jumpers) & I'm not sporty at all. Not gamin cos although I'm vertically challenged I am big of frontage & definitely curvy, size 12 but bigger up top, so boyish or Audrey Hepburn gamin I am not.Perhaps some ingenue though it all looks a bit girly & tea dresses & I loathe tea dresses.....think this might be harder than the colour day, though I got that wrong as well Confused just hoping the threatened snow doesn't turn up on the day.

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 18/11/2013 17:32

Hmm - Aquelven, I felt the same! Didn't think I am any of the types. In fact, not entirely convinced I fit in to any of them still Wink. I don't like tea dresses or too many frills or peplums yet I'm still a 'natural ingenue'. To be fair, my body shape is ingenue I suppose and I do like a bit of lace and delicate jewellery. As for florals - hmm - not massively find of them unless they are slightly edgy (combined with studs or a bit of leather or in funky colours or something).

I can definitely relate to the natural though - am v low maintenance and hate feeling overdressed. Feel ancient if I look too 'done up'.

Mumelie · 18/11/2013 17:55

Aque i felt the same. Like you and Behinner I dont like frills, peplums or tea dresses either - the Ingenue is my body shape, the classic personality changes it from girly to feminine (or so I like to think), classy but not too posh iyswim? I like to look like a woman (I'm very curvey and there is not point hiding it). I look rubbish in a t-shirt and jeans so knew I wasnt a natural. I agree - Dramatic is too scary! Romantic too drapey for my figure. Gamine, no not boyish at all. From what you say you maybe the same as me!

No idea where the violet tights were from - they are a fine knit, had them a few years, I'd guess at either M&S or New Look. M&S sadly lacking in fine knit coloured tights this year. Have some ink ones on order from M&Co of all places!

BeginnerSAHM · 19/11/2013 10:59

Morning Springs,

Had a look in Topshop yesterday (well 10 minute smash and grab shopping spree) and liked the 'Orelia' jewellery range. Lots of fine gold chains and semi-precious tiny stones (a LOT of turquoise) so good for any Springs who have some 'ingenue'...

This is the main website. I went a bit mad... Spent £87 on 4 necklaces, 1 fine gold 'infinity' symbol ring and two sets of earrings.... Well, I need to embrace my inner ingenue Confused. Or something like that Blush.

Aquelven · 19/11/2013 11:14

Some lovely things on there, Beginner. Don't think £87 is all that mad for SO much jewellery. It looks a lot more expensive.

Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't didn't fit the types. I'm expecting I might have some ingenue, just going off my body shape.
They seem to be a bit into tea dresses don't they? I was a bit Confused on the colour day when the consultant said some of the colours would be good as sun dresses! Was probably about five years old when I last wore a sun dress Hmm

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 19/11/2013 11:44

Drat - lost my looong post but wanted to say that i think there are several ways of 'doing' ingenue. My way certainly will not involve tea dresses or frills - but I do think they look lovely on other people (just silly on me).

Aquelven · 19/11/2013 12:00

Trying to sort out what to take & what to expect or ask.
Did you take any accessories, jewellery etc? Must find the email, seem to remember it asked to take formal ouftit(?) casual & stuff you have problems with. Is it good to take something you DO like?

I assume she measures you for body shape Confused but do you fill in a questionnaire for personality type?

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 19/11/2013 12:45

Hi Aquelven - yes, take a few things you think 'should' work for you but you don't feel comfortable in. And anything you're not sure about. Maybe a couple of things you do like too but that's less important. And try to wear leggings or opaques/fitted trousers plus a tight vest or t-shirt so she can measure accurately! Accessories are good - def take some of those!

Questionnaire is, ummm, amusing. Yup - it 'helps' determine part of your style but talking about the types is a good part of it too....

I found it interesting. Still not quite sure what I think. I suppose I'm less of a convert for the style thing than the colours. But still getting used to the idea of my diagnosed style... Think she was right, out of the types available, though!! Just need to make it work for me.

Enjoy!!

BeginnerSAHM · 19/11/2013 12:57

p.s. yes - body shape will help determine style type too!

Joycey29 · 19/11/2013 20:02

Marking place!
My ingenue is very much still in the closet!!
Grin

Gillybobs · 19/11/2013 20:29

Hello Joycey, hope things are ok with you

Aquelven · 19/11/2013 22:00

Yes, Joycey, I hope so too.
