Hi Springs.
New thread, hopefully, with the following link to our old one....

Early Spring

Thanks Beginner. I'm psyching self up to dye one. Bit worried I'll end up with muddy puddle colour Grin. Have you done it yourself before?

Being distracted! should be working but keep checking links! Blush

Oh I'm glad you went back. Are you feeling a bit more confident that the diagnosis is right? As a bright season, some of the Spring colours wouldn't be as bad on you as, say, the autumn ones (both warm and muted), and think how close some of those spring blues/aquas are to the Winter chinese blue/royal blue. Yes you lose yellow/orange/brown, but you gain all the darker greys and navies and black, which are much more readily available neutrals than the warmer browns and tans at the moment. I would try maybe grey/blue eye shadow as a starting point. Or even a mole/taupe sort of shade if you want to ease yourself in gently. Why not ask QueenC if you haven't already - she has blue eyes I think?

Fooogle · 26/02/2014 12:44

Yes, bit more confident now. Did we discuss levels on contrast a while back Hopefully?! My consultant said lots of contrast for winters in general? More so than spring?

EustaciaVye · 26/02/2014 14:27

thanks hopefully. lots of blue in my cmb clear and warm palette. and I can wear pretty much any blue and it will look good. royal, turquoise, aqua are especially good. Smile

Hopefully · 26/02/2014 15:10

Winters are the highest contrast season - it's why they get black and white! Similar ideas in terms of contrast as springs (dark with light/neutrals with colour), but yes, Winters in general are higher contrast than all other seasons. If you feel you're looking a bit flat, make sure you have some contrast in your outfit and the magic will happen Smile

Lovely sunny day here. I'm out in my new Joules pea Green Mac I linked to before (sale bargain) and feeling very spring like! pale Dove grey scarf and tan bag.
Also wearing a charcoal grey (not the best on me) white Co dress, turquoise cashmere Boden cropped cardi and black boots.
What's everyone else wearing today?

Aquelven · 27/02/2014 13:53

That sounds really nice, Mumelie.
I'm not that springy but it's cold here, been raining when I was out & I'm huddled in warm layers. Black jeans, brown suede ankle boots, green big fluffy jumper but it's the wrong green, forest instead of bright, that I made last year & am trying to get use of before I ditch it cos I love it. I had my ( new this winter) parka when I was out, brown with fur lining, & a tan leopard print scarf. But I did have on a bright HoC lipstick from my colour day.

Foogle you should be able to dye cashmere ok, being a natural fibre, but don't have the water very hot, that will shrink & felt it. You might be better with a cold water dye. And be careful about colour. Some colours don't work over other colours & that's when you might end up with sludge. So, for instance, light blue or turquoise should dye navy or charcoal ok, but not take red well. Coral should go dark red, brown ( not winter I think?) black but not deep blue. I think you need to keep within the samish colour spectrum. It's when you mix the opposites you can end up with mud.

Thanks for the colour tips aque. The cardi I am planning to start on is a sea greeny colour? Thinking forest green for winter... Will see how brave I feel with others. Have a much loved orangey v neck one. Worried if I dye it red it'll be to warm a red... Tricky! Could hope i ll find lots of winter cashmere but prob ll take a while!

BeginnerSAHM · 27/02/2014 20:07

Fooogle - you could always try red and if it's too warm do black on top. Black will dye over anything.

Fooogle · 27/02/2014 21:06

Good idea beginner... I'll brace myself! Needs some planning Wink

Joycey29 · 27/02/2014 21:50

Aqua striped jumper from boden nice but 14 seems fractionally big and 10 fractionally small - no 12!! Aaahhhhh!

Aquelven · 27/02/2014 22:53

Oh, that's a shame, Joycey Sad

I would say that if you have a top you adore, then dont dye it just because it isnt one of your wow colours. Keep it as a comfort top :)

Fooogle · 28/02/2014 19:24

Thanks eusta... I ll go slowly and see. Trying a few not so loved ones to start. Think have to hand dye so gonna be more fiddly too!

BeginnerSAHM · 01/03/2014 00:31

Gone a bit shopping crazy here in NY... Bought this - to go over a 'pointe' whistles navy dress I have and to go with navy cigarette trousers (for work) and a grey Coach handbag and matching purse...Shock. Also bought a lot of other stuff Blush. Some 'Genetic' indigo skinny jeans being the next most significant purchase... (Will stick to uniqlo for my not-going-out jeans...)

MrsPeacockDidIt · 01/03/2014 06:20

Beginner, that jacket is amazing and will go with so much.

Gillybobs · 01/03/2014 09:18

Oh your spree sounds amazing, love the jacket and I adore coach bags, I bought a tan one in the US last year, lucky lucky you!

BeginnerSAHM · 01/03/2014 11:35

Thanks Mrs Peacock and Gilly! Marc Jacobs is nearly the same price in dollars as pounds in the UK (and it was discounted) so the jacket was about £220. Still in shock at having spent that much! Taking a matching coach purse I got back though... You can have too much of a good thing, I think, and I don't like being too matchy matchy...Shock.

Got great kids clothes at Old Navy (that don't look like they'll fall apart straight away) as well as a couple of Ralph Lauren bits in the sale for them (v reasonable over here!). Plus clinique city block, a bright(er) pink clinique chubby stick, Laura mercier tinted moisturiser (the best in my opinion!) and LM lippy. Credit card has taken a huge battering....Shock.

QueenCadbury · 02/03/2014 07:23

I'm just gate crashing again...quick question for all you ingenues/naturals on here but what footwear do you wear in spring? I'm beginning to wonder if my usual converse feel a bit clumpy but I'm not quite ready to reveal my skin in my ballet flats. Any other inspiration...?

Gillybobs · 02/03/2014 09:00

Queen C I'm not Ing or

Gillybobs · 02/03/2014 09:02

Oops

I'm not ing or nat but I have several friends who are so I'm wondering about a detailed pretty brogue as a spring shoe for you. Something not clumpy and with plenty of cut out detail? Just a thought!

Mumelie · 02/03/2014 13:23

Hi QueenC I'm a Classic ingenue and like brogues in Spring - I have a pale grey suede pair. What about ankle boots with cut out sides? I'm after a pair but can only find black!

Aquelven · 02/03/2014 19:23

QueenC I have a pair very like these that I bought last year, very comfy too.

These look good too.

I've got my eye on these
Or these
Or these

Beginner sounds like you're having a great shopping spree Grin

Joycey29 · 02/03/2014 20:54

Just bought a French navy cropped cardi and a marine green v neck from Woolovers as sent the Boden jumper back as wasn't worth the money.
Think these will be more useful! Can't wait for then to arrive! Grin

QueenCadbury · 02/03/2014 21:01

aquelven I'd been looking at those cut out brogues but decided they'd be useless in the rain! I do like those other lace up ones though and definitely look less masculine than normal brogues. Think I need a trip to clarks.

Thanks springettes!
