Ok. I need help to find a wedding dress. THAT looks weird written down.

I seem, despite my best intentions, to be getting married next year, and I need a dress.

I want something very much like this (particularly the sleeves)- I am flexible on colour, but have a budget of £500.

Has anyone seen anything similar?

I was hoping to get something made, but it looks like it might be too costly an option- so any recommendations for a good but cheap London based dressmaker also gratefully received Smile

This says they are called blouson sleeves

Issa Bloomies

KatyMac · 08/11/2013 23:26

I know this is a leotard but are the sleeves right?

Anything on here?

Or here?

AngryFeet · 08/11/2013 23:41

I am pretty sure it is 1940s style

holidaysarenice · 08/11/2013 23:52

I thought a uk 16 = a us 20? Thou I might be wrong!

TheDoctrineOfWho · 09/11/2013 00:00

No, it's down 4, not up 4.

tethersend · 09/11/2013 00:03

No, US sizes are bigger. A US 20 must be about a 24 I think.

Angryfeet, can't see anything there, but thanks- it's a 60s/70s style I'm after rather than a 40s/50s one.

It's the blouson(thanks!) sleeves that are important, but not sure I could get married in a leotard Grin

I've been trawling ebay but that issa dress isn't coming up here or in the US ... I wonder if you could hire that precise Issa dress somewhere?

What about Beulah? They have dresses with similar sleeves here, if you scroll down: www.beulahlondon.com/clothing/dresses.html
Also full length and beautiful fabric.

MrsLettuce · 09/11/2013 09:09

tealish green, short again

MrsLettuce · 09/11/2013 09:13

Oh, and I've always though of this as one of 'your' dresses IYSWIM, probably too plain and certainly not on brief.

Bit Morticia Adams?

PrimalLass · 09/11/2013 09:23

The back is lovely on that one.

MrsLettuce · 09/11/2013 09:27

One last failure

Look!

Surely it can't be more expensive to have it made?

MrsLettuce · 09/11/2013 09:35

Decent fabric is damned expensive but one would think it'd be doable.

silk jersey as per the issa dress 85 - 140 per meter Shock or not...

MrsLettuce · 09/11/2013 09:37

(oh, much better prices here)

tethersend · 09/11/2013 12:03

Thanks for taking the time to look Smile

In terms of the sleeves- it's the deep fitted cuff and then the blouson that I like, so a shallow cuff won't cut the mustard I'm afraid. Ditto split sleeves.

I really, really don't want any blingy bits on it.

The one person I asked has quoted me £800 plus material to make one Shock, so I thought I'd see if I could find something I liked off the peg for cheaper- and I did! But it's sold out everywhere.

That pattern is great, PrimalLass- it's too small for me, but if I could find someone to use it as a base pattern, maybe taking out some of the fabric in the skirt, it would be ideal.

yy, find a different tailor and FGS don't mention the word wedding.

tethersend · 09/11/2013 12:14

Is that what's doing it?!

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 09/11/2013 12:16

Yup! Fuckers anywhere will always charge at least 1/3 extra for anything if that word is heard.
