Drywhiteplease · 12/11/2013 18:22

Drywhiteplease · 12/11/2013 18:24

May even put it with this

Drywhiteplease · 12/11/2013 18:25

Drywhiteplease · 12/11/2013 18:26

Phew that was exhausting Confused

Drywhiteplease · 12/11/2013 18:28

And re J Crew.......I think it's just a better quality Gap flame me with a twist. An American Boden. When I saw the jewellery in US I wasn't impressed by the quality for the price. HOWEVER there's nothing wrong with quality classics IMO.

Drywhiteplease · 12/11/2013 18:28

And I quite like it....and I still want the coat.

MarshaBrady · 12/11/2013 18:30

Yep I really want to see the flats, a coat and a jumper.

actually I have some grey J Crew shorts from NaP, have been a best buy.

LinusDKD · 12/11/2013 18:35

Ha dry before I looked at all your outfits I was going to suggest you pair the shirt with your red skirt!

I have to say I like J Crew for basics. So far I have been impressed with the quality and the choice but I always buy at a discount.

There are loads of things I want to buy for DH, myself and as Christmas presents for family but I am holding out until I get another code. [cheapskate emoticon]

I wouldn't go for their whole aesthetic but that's mainly because I can't be arsed with all those accessories, artfully rolled up sleeves and statement necklaces.

mig I hope you are recovering well and that the drugs are working without any side effects.

one it sounds like you had one of those days! Wine on me!

LinusDKD · 12/11/2013 18:38

Oh and santa definitely complain! DM has a lot of Brunello Cuccinelli (shame I can't fit in it yet )

And well done umlauf! And I think you need to get a new dress for the christening anyway! Grin

Drywhiteplease · 12/11/2013 18:44

I love that dot shirt Dry and thought about an orange skirt/navy dot shirt/camel scarf or shoes before I clicked on your orange skirt link.

Then I thought of-
How much I love navy w/ nut brown or a rusty brown- brown cord jeans or skinny pants (twill or a heavy flannel/wool would work too) but they need to be very colour saturated, deep and rich Autumnal brown. You will need to try the shirt against them as not all browns sit well w/ navy. You'll know when it is right as they'll look really cool.

I would add a belt, a skinny belt to work the look upwards in a silver. A dull hammered silver not shiny shiny to add the dressed up and not dressed down vibe. Shoes could be vertiginous shoe boots with a flash of bare ankle or sharp, sharp, sharp stilettoes or heeled pumps. These need to be nude, black or tonal with the belt or pants. Not matched w/ the shirt. A left field choice would be light non bulky trainers like a Converse or Perse plimsoll. In dark shades.

Colours rarely seen together but looking great.

Other choices for me? A shell pink w/ the navy shirt whether it be a scarf, belt or skirt. A light camel skirt in that A line knee length side pocket shape. Imagine Meryl Streep in Kramer versus Kramer with conker coloured or tan knee boots, wooly scarf, shirt and that skirt.

Navy and pale melon as in this pin. Or how about navy and Olive here? I particularly like this look and you could pair the shirt w/ olive pants or skirt or even a scarf and wear black pants or jeans as this photo does.

shopafrolic · 12/11/2013 20:35

Am I too late to point out to dry that most people dress like absolute idiots for children In Need?
Perhaps make up like this?

Mignonette · 12/11/2013 20:38

Love it Shop Smile.

Maybe Dry could reverse face paint her face and neck? A navy shirt w/ white spots. A white face with navy spots.

Cool. It is called living for your (fashion) art.

shopafrolic · 12/11/2013 20:38

Are you ready for the grand finale at 9pm Dry?

shopafrolic · 12/11/2013 20:39

And think of the kiddies Dry. They look up to you. You need to deliver.

MarshaBrady · 12/11/2013 20:41

I love the under the black one Dry. So chic. Is it meant to be chic? Grin

MarshaBrady · 12/11/2013 20:42

What grand finale are you watching Shop?

LinusDKD · 12/11/2013 20:43

mig reading how you write about clothes/colour combinations/outfits makes me realise I have no clue about fashion.

I do my best, but some people just seem to have an innate sense of style and know what works and what doesn't.

I love your style of writing!

MarshaBrady · 12/11/2013 20:43

Mig did you write the article?

MarshaBrady · 12/11/2013 20:44

And yes a great style.

shopafrolic · 12/11/2013 20:55

David Tenant in The Escape Artist Marsha v tense and scarily good.

shopafrolic · 12/11/2013 20:57

And yes mig I love how you always out new twists on things! and fab colour combinations. And for enabling me on the Maison scotch camel coat last year Thanks

Mignonette · 12/11/2013 21:02

Linus Thank you so much. what a lovely compliment. I'm sure you look great and that your confidence levels are not commensurate with the reality of your own style. I think it is hard to worm our way out of the contrast or match colour rules because we are conditioned by them from a very young age. What i have found exciting (if it's not too drama llama to write that?) about the last few seasons is that the rule book appears to have been revised if not tossed out of the window. Who'd have thought we'd be encouraged to wear spots with stripes or two different checks or colour blocking with no close consultation of the colour wheel? Yet that is what has happened. I give a lot of credit to Miuccia Prada as for years now (decade) she has been moving us all from the 'true' colours to the more off shades or non colours such as sludge, dull olive, shades of brown and oranges that have a 'cast' to them that makes them intimidating to many of us. As our opinions about colour shades transmogrified from appalled to to 'I'll take that in a size ten', Miuccia began to bring the same influence to bear upon pattern and texture. Whether we like the style of Prada or not (and it is not apealing to a lot of us), we have all been changed by her aesthetic.

God, upon reading back that sounds a bit pompous-I didn't intend it to. Well, post and be damned Smile. Tell me off if you think I need it Smile.

Marsha I have submitted my first draft and they will come back to me re revisions. I think they are going to want some photographs and there is the testing of the accompanying recipe to go through-three different people will make it to check it is reliable etc. I have made the recipe for thirty years, my Mother for forty five years and who knows how long our Latin American housekeeper's Mother made it for? Or how much it has morphed over time also. I had to write it in a food memoir style which is lovely because it does suit my natural inclination and the story behind my first eating of it has a bit of humour (IMO) behind it. My daughter is now making it!

I have another one to do w/ a broader remit 'Sweet' which can be about anything, certainly not confined to food. That is more 'creative writing' in as much as it can be fiction or non fiction. I'm not a fan of such wafty commissions TBH.

shopafrolic · 12/11/2013 21:06

mig if you have time Google search for Rachel eats. My lovely old school friend, living and foodie writing in Rome. I think you might like.....
