Tops that don't make busty women look frumpy!

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 18/10/2013 11:48

Help?!

Everything seems to look frumpy on my large boobs, unless it's tight and then I just look tarty!

Need some day tops for wearing under cardies and now terrified jumpers are going to look dreadful too.

I hate my J's Sad

OP posts:
Cherrypie32 · 18/10/2013 18:54

I'm wearing long line tops, cardigans and slouchy style v neck plain jumpers, always with a scarf. Nothing very patterned. Nothing empire line. I can sympathise as at 42 now I often feel my boobs make me look frumpy but avoid shops like White Stuff and buy nice plain separates from Gap, H&M etc and it puts me in a better frame of mind about them. Going out clothes are harder for the reasons you've said so I don't do it oftenGrin

GrandstandingBlueTit · 18/10/2013 20:07

Have you had a bra intervention?

Wearing the right fitting bra will elongate your upper body, give you back your waist, fully support your breasts, and no doubt enable you to wear a myriad different tops without the risk of looking frumpy. :)

Kemmo · 18/10/2013 20:20

I think that people fixate too much on the neckline.
IMO it is more important to choose tops/dresses that broaden your shoulders as these stop your boobs from being the widest point.

And peppeberry clothes are (nearly all) shite :)

Cherrypie32 · 18/10/2013 20:22

Sadly I disagree. My professionally fitted bras make no difference to the tops I would or wouldn't wear. I still have big boobs and its still a challenge not to feel frumpy.

GrandstandingBlueTit · 18/10/2013 20:34

Fair enough and I don't doubt that, but I'm not talking about a professional fitting from somone who's doing it old stylee.

I'm talking about a proper fitting bra. :)

JacqueslePeacock · 18/10/2013 20:40

Pepperberry clothes ARE nearly all shite. Well said. Expensive polyester cheap-looking shite at that.

Amrapaali · 18/10/2013 20:48

Such flattering tops as you are on the hunt for do not exist, OP.

I've given up the search and instead am splashing out on lovely scarves. An artfully placed one over a form fitting dress or top will work wonders!!

Kemmo · 18/10/2013 20:59

Noooooo

Don't give up!

Will post more links when not on crappy phone :)

Pinupgirl · 18/10/2013 21:03

I have quite big boobs though not in your league!-mine are 36F. I wear dresses all the time but I am not shy about showing off my cleavage. I was at an event a few weeks ago and the amount of comments I got about my breasts was unbelievable-and not just from sleazy men eitherGrin

What I am trying to say is-love your boobs and show them off-be proud!

PervCat · 19/10/2013 07:16

Colour is key. If the colour suits you that's half the battle

PervCat · 19/10/2013 07:17

Pinup girl women don't want people commenting on their body though like its public property. If you're trying to do a job the state of your chest should be irrelevant. The fact that you like that suggests more about you than us

FoxyHarlow123 · 19/10/2013 08:23

Breast reduction folks. It's the way to go. I feel like a new person and can wear anything now.

charitygirl · 19/10/2013 08:58

Agree with pervcat about colour. Every bit of your body and face looks better in the right colours.

I also do NOT welcome comments about my boobs from anyone other than close friends (not family please...). And then it's not so much 'welcome' as 'tolerate'.

OP - ths is a dress I've seen that looks like it would be flattering but totally non cleavagey. Ignore the 'men really look' bullshit. They have other colours, and my experience is that Heyday stuff if well-made - i have trousers from there. But of course you may not like the 'vintage' look - people seem overly keen to shoehorn any big boobed, small waisted woman into a 40s/50s silhouette but its not for everyone.

Pinupgirl · 19/10/2013 09:31

Yes it does say something about me pervcat-it says that I am happy in my body and love myself and you clearly do notGrin

edam · 19/10/2013 09:54

charity, that link takes me to a cardigan but I think you are trying to link to a dress?

noddyholder · 19/10/2013 10:05

There are tops in h and m atm that are brilliant for boobs but I can't find them on the website. They are 6.99 and lots of colours and wash brilliantly They are in the basics range elbow sleeves and shaped hem and scooped neck but not low very flattering Have been asked several times if I have lost weight and even dp said where have your boobs gone!

GrandstandingBlueTit · 19/10/2013 10:13

If you don't welcome a commentary from strangers on your body, you don't love yourself..?!

That grin at the end of your post signals you're joking, right?

PervCat · 19/10/2013 10:26

i hate those body con flaunt your curves dresses - the vivien of hollloway ones.

they just make people look fat imo
IME ( only!) breasts do get smaller with weight loss. That would be my first thing if i hated mine. Im not at hate. Im just at meh

PervCat · 19/10/2013 10:27

NICE TITS = oh yes you recognise my post graduate qualification?

piss off

noddyholder · 19/10/2013 10:27

Me too hate that sort of celebrate your curves dress which makes you look podgy and a bit in your face!

noddyholder · 19/10/2013 10:29

The large breast tiny waist combo is v v rare in this day and age We are different shapes and if you do happen to resemble monroe etc then yes a pulled in waist look is v attractive but otherwise on a more contemporary waist to boob ratio you can look like a sack of spuds and I know becasue I do!

edam · 19/10/2013 10:33

I've got very generous norkage and a relatively small waist BUT a big tummy too. Sadly. When I was slim, I used to get loads of hassle - white van drivers yelling at me in the street regularly and so on. Now I'm porky that doesn't happen. Which is a relief - but sad that I had to get fat before the harassment stopped.

ggirl · 19/10/2013 10:34

hate those betty boo 50's dresses

I find slash /boat neck tops are quite flattering

I do find scarves a bit difficult to get right , I have zillions of them and wear them all the time but have to fiddle about endlessly to avoid looking matronly.

evertonmint · 19/10/2013 10:34

ROFL @ Pervcat. I believe I've responded with "I have a degree from Cambridge too you know" :)

I like my boobs in the same way some people like their hair or their skin or their flat belly or their shapely legs. They're the best bit of my body. So I like to make them look their best rather than hide them under a high-necked mono-boob top.

I love my boobs, Pinupgirl, I really do, I embrace them and show them off (in a nice v neck top, not in a Jodie Marsh "come and ogle" way.) That does not mean that I want or expect anybody to comment on them. Other than my husband who loves them almost as much as me so I let him comment if he feels the need. I might enquire after a friend's clothes or hair style or make up if I like them or say "you look great today" but I don't comment on their body parts. That's just rude.

Pinupgirl · 19/10/2013 10:34

I don't tend to introduce myself to every one I meet by talking about my degree-have you failed to notice this is style and beauty and not feminism?Hmm

I was merely trying to point out that the key to looking good in anything is body confidence.

Ps-I love vivien of HollowayGrin
