Did it!

I have just been to see Captain Phillips with my ds (14). Most anxiety-inducing film since Argo, I need Lidl blueberry liqueur now, exhausting. As are teens.

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/10/2013 22:23

I'm going, CV.

I have had two glasses of wine this evening (first since MI came over last weekend!) in an attempt to build up my tolerance for seeing my cousin next week. She is like an empty vessel and fills up even quicker than I do. She is cooking Hungarian food (she is half Hungarian and a quarter German). Smile

Auriga · 26/10/2013 22:39

Let's do pre-, post- and opera screening with nibbles. I need to spend more time with interesting women, as I'm sure everyone does.

Managed to make big fuss of DM for her 88th birthday, with good presents, spoiling and special meal. Dd did her signature pasta bake and I made a choc fudge cake with candles that spelt out 'Don't Ask'.

And DH is going to do the washing up tomorrow (yeah, right).

hattymattie · 27/10/2013 07:28

Auriga - that sounds fab. So Envy about being stuck in France with DH who hates opera. When I lived in London I used to go to the ENO often (had to sit at the very top as Young and poor).

Wish I lived in London (sulk).

CV that sounds a pain with DS - I have never had a stunt like that yet. Although as I said - DS is still a sweet(ish) Young thinng.

bigTillyMint · 27/10/2013 08:17

CV, glad to hear it's not just the girlsWink

MrsS, you are being restrained! And well done Auriga - you have the patience and care of a saint.

I am off to watch DS play a match today - first time I have been to see him play for his new team - apparently there is a club room you can watch the game from whilst drinking your tea!

motherinferior · 27/10/2013 08:21

Just had text from DP who is going to get back in the middle of the night in a howling gale and has work tomorrow...Grin

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 27/10/2013 08:22

Just as long as you don't have to pick him up, MI!

hattymattie · 27/10/2013 08:31

DH gone off for a Sunday morning bike ride and there is the most enormous storm has blown up outside - literally monsoon!

Blackduck · 27/10/2013 08:36

I am hoping to fit in a brisk walk up the hill before the biblical level onslaught ... On the other hand could just stay in bed, drink tea and leaf through recipe books... Hmm... Decisions decisions....

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/10/2013 09:42

I have a swollen gum - it's an infection in a badly done root canal that happens periodically. Can I go to the doctor with this, or do I need the hassle of finding a dentist? My last dentist agreed to leave it as it was and treat it periodically with ABs, rather than remove the crown, sort out the root canal work and put it all back together due to a) the amount of work involved b) the pain and c) the cost to me of having it done - he said it would need the crown removing and an implant in its place.

Cremolafoam · 27/10/2013 09:58

I have this occasionally as well mrs s and the dentist told me to rinse mouth with salt water and take a probiotic. I did and it settled. He wants to replace the crown with something modern and futuristic in the next year or so, but I am keeping it at bay . You can also double dose paracetamol and Nurofen for pain.

motherinferior · 27/10/2013 10:25

Sweetie, I would think about blowing the money on getting it redone. Horrid but would be worth it in long run.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 27/10/2013 10:27

We are off to buy shoes. Ahem. Am still knackered and planning v inactive afternoon Grin. DP emailed us the mountain view from his hotel lunch yesterday. We emailed back the view from our dining room (a shabby fence)Grin

Blackduck · 27/10/2013 10:49

I'm sitting here watching the weather (I can see across three counties). It is very changeable...
Bugger the walk - cookery books out :) saucepan of broccoli and Stilton on the go.

I'd get it sores MrsS - dp had something similar - I recall him in agony in Thailand (refused to go to a dentist) knocking back triple strength ibuprofen....

Blackduck · 27/10/2013 10:50

Sorted - FGS...

wilbur · 27/10/2013 12:39

Agree with others about getting it sorted, MrsS. I had a tooth out after failed root canal work years ago, and was supposed to get an implant, never had the money, thought it would be ok, and now all my lower teeth are gradually falling diagonally into the gap. Which looks nice Hmm. If ABs and rinsing etc don't really keep it at bay, get the whole thing done no half measures.

Did anyone just hear Tanya Byron on Desert Island Discs? I heart her even more now and want her to be my friend. She even took the same luxury as I would to the island.

Auriga - well done on your dm's b'day, like the candle idea - might steal that.

CV - Shock and a small Grin at your ds (now we know he's safe). That's what I can see my boys doing, just not thinking things through in any way at all, all impulse and no brain. Hope he was made to mend his own puncture.

MrsSchadenfreude · 27/10/2013 12:47

Are you going to Bromley, MI? GrinGrinGrin

Blackduck · 27/10/2013 13:19

Yes CV I read that and thought 'oh god, that'll be ds in a few years'....
Here it is secondary school deadline so much angst around. :). Scary really.

We appear to be getting all seasons in one day here (no snow as yet...)

In other news we have booked two weeks in Mexico just before Christmas (naughty naughty dp as it means an unauthorised absence - I suspect this will be the last time) as dp has already indicated that next year we can 'forget it' as he will be too busy to do anything Hmm

motherinferior · 27/10/2013 15:11

BD, is he still trying to pull a whole summer away?

MrsS, I'll have you know I drove to and back from Bromley with, as Dd2 put it, no death threats issued by other drivers Grin We have shoes for Dd1 (Next Timberland dupes), trousers and a top for DD2, red lipstick for me and various socks and vests. Will attempt Dd2's shoes again next Sat. I keep labouring the point that I am far too damn busy this week!

CointreauVersial · 27/10/2013 15:13

Yes, DS did give us a scare, but that was probably his intention. I knew he'd probably be alright, as he is generally sensible, and has a good sense of direction, but I couldn't help worrying, as it was getting so dark, and we only had the vaguest idea of the route he was taking (he can't use the main road, as it is a treacherous rat-run of a hill). He is the sort of boy who will cut off his nose to spite his face i.e. sacrificing something he'd really like to do just to make a point. And DH has no patience with that kind of thing.

I'm enjoying a day of lounging, and utilised my extra hour by having a long bath and a pampering pedicure. DM and DSD, who were coming over to childmind tomorrow, phoned to say they'd be coming tonight to avoid any storm-related issues in the morning. I'm now contemplating the hoovering and hoping the roast chicken will stretch to seven - where's those extra spuds?

Blackduck · 27/10/2013 16:20

No MI I think he realised he'd come home to find the locks changed Grin. It is more to do with the fact he is organising a huge conference for late July and nothing else will enter his head until that is finished, by which time, unless I do it, everything will have shot up in price! I am planning a little birthday adventure for us both though (we both hit a significant one next year)

beachyhead · 27/10/2013 18:38

Oh CV, that is a massive bike adventure, how exciting for ds......

Mrs S, I read your dental issues as being treated with ArseBosses (which I thought sounded most unpalatable!). I agree, take it out and plug the gap with an implant or a bridge.

We are WAITING FOR THE STORM here. It's a bit like like Christmas Eve without Noraid Grin DD2 keeps poking her head out the back door saying 'where's that hurricane then?' Garden is packed away....

I have been making apple based products all day on the basis that today I can pick from the tree, rather than scrabbling around on the ground for them. Crab apply jelly, with has just exploded all over the cooker, so the house now smells of burnt toffee apples, apple cake and apple puree!

Now off to waft smoke Grin

motherinferior · 27/10/2013 18:40

Yes, my meeting in town has been cancelled because of Weather (after mammoth childcare juggle...)

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 27/10/2013 19:28

Trains are all up the creek already - no Southern trains tomorrow morning, apparently, and DD1 and DH are on a bus replacement service tonight to get her to Esher. Well, bus goes to Surbiton and then they have a nice wait to get to Esher. DH is Not Impressed.

motherinferior · 27/10/2013 19:30

DP's plane already late, apparently. What's the betting he arrives here I the relatively large small hours?
