Cleanse tone and moisturise - do you really? Honestly?

My face gets wet in the shower. Bio oil for the dry bits. BB cream on a special occasion. I've always thought that the C/T/M mantra in magazines is an excuse to sell us three things not just one ie bit of moisturiser.
Will I look 20 if I start this CTM business? Is it just for people who wear lost of make-up/work down a pit? What do you lovely MNs do?

wash twice a day with flannel/balm, serum, then sunblock in the morning, night cream at night. I've got sensitive skin, but no lines or wrinkles at all at nearly 40.

Was comprehensively put off toner in the 80s by Clinique and their big purple bottle of 'clarifying nail varnish remover lotion'.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/09/2013 21:49

At night if I wear make-up especially eye makeup.
Morning in the shower, wash/gentle scrub

Moisturise.
(I don't use toner but I do like an eye serum or two. Currantly Elemis ProCollagen Eye Serum)

ItsRoxie · 17/09/2013 21:52

fififolle I use the Boots Protect and Perfect serum. Have been using it for about five years, I bought a multipack ages ago and I'm still only halfway through.

Paintyourbox · 17/09/2013 22:49

Morning- cleanse, tone, moisturise, sunblock on neck.

Night- cleanse, tone, serum, moisturise.

I have skin which is much better than my younger friends.

Witco · 17/09/2013 22:56

I have always cleansed and moisturised (Liz Earle) but I bought a Clarisonic a few weeks ago and I love it! My skin feels so much cleaner and whatever I put on my skin afterwards is absorbed so much better! My skin is great and I am told I don't look my age Shock

BitchyRestingFace · 18/09/2013 00:24

I do. Cleanse, gentle scrub, tone and moisturise in the evening. Nothing in the morning, a little bit of moisturiser maybe, but not every day.

I don't think it's going to magically stave off the ageing process, I just like doing it, I like the baby-soft, clean feeling in the evening before I put my PJs on. I feel grubby and scuzzy if I don't do it.

MissDD1971 · 18/09/2013 09:43

soap and glory peaches and clean and moisturiser in morning. exfoliate at weekends.

cleanse, tone and moisturise at nights or SHOCK HORROR skin cleansing wipes.

MissDD1971 · 18/09/2013 09:44

Out of interest vipers - which toner do you use? I've used a few think I like Naked Up Tone Girl now.

Idespair · 18/09/2013 09:45

I wash my face when I am in the bath or shower. None of this other crap!

Medal · 18/09/2013 09:47

No toner but cleanse in shower with a facial cleansing cream and moisturise afterwards with rosehip oil followed by moisturiser. I have dry skin. I also wear sunblock every day.
Don't think there is any need for toner.

fififolle · 23/09/2013 16:17

Thank you Roxie. I tried p&p a few year ago but gradually stopped using it. I've just bought the new Clarins serum which I love, my skin looks really good after a couple of days use.

HometownUnicorn · 23/09/2013 16:22

i have acne-prone skin , and recently made a real effort to wash, use a salicylic acid spot cream, and then moisturise 2x daily for a month. Skin's still not perfect, but noticably better. Am using la roche posay face wash and moisturiser

closetcat · 23/09/2013 16:30

I do, I have a basketful of beauty products and choose what to use depending on how it feels. I am a bit of a skincare junkie - trouble is I hoard it rather than use it Blush

OiVaVoi · 23/09/2013 16:37

What is the point of toner? What does it do??

PractialJoke · 23/09/2013 16:37

I often resolve to do this properly but then remember why i stopped. Like picnic it gives me spots. I splash with water or in the shower then use a very basic moisture.

I have good young skin if occasionally a little spotty!

janmoomoo · 23/09/2013 17:12

I take my make up off at night, Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser if not in a rush, simple make up wipes if I am. Facial oil after. I reckon I do it about 90% of the time but some days I just can't be bothered.

In the mornings wash face with water in the shower then moisturise with spf.

squoosh · 23/09/2013 17:16

In the morning - splash of water on face, moisturise, add makeup.

Evening - cleanse, exfoliating toner, facial oil, moisturiser. I usually have a serum too but I've run out at the moment.

closetcat · 23/09/2013 17:17

I was in a quandary about morning cleansing as if I don't want to faff with a cream cleanser and flannel so I've been buying Decleor's micellar-type cleanser and it's perfect! Swipe and go.

I can't bring myself to use a wipe since reading the Beautymouth blog and hearing that they are for fannies, festivals and flights only Blush

janmoomoo · 23/09/2013 17:22

I have never used toner. I don't actually know what the point of it is.

closetcat · 23/09/2013 17:23

OiVaVoi toner can do a number of things depending on which one you choose. Some restore the skin's pH after washing/cleansing, some hydrate, some exfoliate, some temporarily tighten pores because they're astringent.

Yars ago they were used to get the remnants of clacky cold cream cleansers off the skin.

squoosh · 23/09/2013 17:24

Chemical toners reveal baby soft skin and clear up any breakouts.

Well they do on me anyway. I adore the Clarins one.

NoComet · 23/09/2013 17:25

No, I chuck on moisturizer if my skin feels dry, probably once a week or less.

I have rough and ready teenage skin, despite being 45, it takes offense to the world what ever I do or don't do so I save my money.

wiltingfast · 23/09/2013 17:38

I cleanse with a hot cloth at night and moisturise with facial oil and a moisturiser after morning and night.

Don't use toner, skin is sensitive and doesn't like it.

Don't use sun block cause I hate the feel of them clagging up my skin, have tried cheap and pricey but just can't bear them.

Skin is average. Good but not fabulous.

QuinnFabray · 23/09/2013 17:45

You don't want to wear SPF but you're happy to clean your face with just baby wipes?

I never used to cleanse, tone or moisturise. Or wear make up for that matter. Now I do it all, religiously. And my oily, shiney, dull, congested with blackheads, spot prone skin has never been better. I'm a total convert, and I wish I'd started 15 years ago.

ArtyFartyQueen · 23/09/2013 20:05

Face wash when in the shower (once or twice daily), BB cream in the morning and night cream when I remember or realise my face clearly needs it!
