Cleanse tone and moisturise - do you really? Honestly?

My face gets wet in the shower. Bio oil for the dry bits. BB cream on a special occasion. I've always thought that the C/T/M mantra in magazines is an excuse to sell us three things not just one ie bit of moisturiser.
Will I look 20 if I start this CTM business? Is it just for people who wear lost of make-up/work down a pit? What do you lovely MNs do?

I double cleanse, tone, treat and moisturise, twice daily without fail. Use sunblock daily. My skin which is very sensitive and prone to eczema and acne is in good nic plus its hardly aged. It's all worth it in my opinion.

I don't use toner as such I use treatment lotions. I would never use a scrub, so I use gentle chemical exfoliation, and this happens through treatment lotions

The clarins gentle exfoliator brightening toner is amazing, as is Alpha H liquid gold, I also like Darphin Intral Toner for my redness, DR Jart V7 to rebalance my skin, and Liz Earle's instant skin boost. Don't even get me started on my cleansers, serums and creams.

And I love a bit of make up.

JemimaMuddledUp · 23/09/2013 20:22

Yes, hot cloth cleanse and moisturise twice a day. Use eye make up remover and eye cream too at night. I don't use toner though.

Hassled · 23/09/2013 20:26

I'm a complete sucker for any face cream/serum/bollocksy advert and yes, I do cleanse, tone and moisturise, certainly at night. Mornings it's shower, serum, moisturiser, makeup. I spend ridiculous amounts of time slapping stuff on my face in a tragic bid to cling on to my lost youth.

ShreddedHoops · 23/09/2013 21:52

I use Nutrogena pink grapefruit scrub morning and night and no longer get premenstrual grey spotty skin. And No7 Beautiful Skin moisturiser, the one for very dry skin, in day, and Nivea thick cream at night. I wear sunblock every day - La Roche Posay Anthelios tinted moisturiser SPF50 if I'm going to be outside a lot, or Benefit 'Hello Flawless' SPF25 if I'm having a 'care what I look like' day. Te sunblock is a tad clogging, but better that than wrinkles - I can sort clogged pores with mud masks and salycilic cream - wrinkles are forever.

BornToFolk · 23/09/2013 22:01

I don't use toner as I've never found one that made any difference to my skin.
I wash using a bog-standard facial wash (Simple or the like) morning and night and use Nivea Soft at night and something with SPF in it during the day, plus make up, usually.

JennySense · 23/09/2013 22:31

I was really haphazard until about 6 months ago, when I thought at 43 I really need to get into some kind of routine.
La Hirons over at www.beautymouth.com has helped me to get a routine together - I've tried to see it as a bit of me time too.
Currently I'm on a big diet, so I'm hoping that this investment will mean when I lose my natural filler face fat I won't end up with a gazillion wrinkles.

kiwik · 23/09/2013 23:28

I like lotions and potions, so have cleansed, toned and moisturised since I was a teen.
Currently I use Eve Lom in the morning, spash of cold water to tone, and use a La Roche Posay moisturiser.
Evening I use La Roche Posay to cleanse and remove make-up, and then spritz with water spray before using a Clarins facial oil.

My skin gets quite dry in winter, so it needs plenty of care to keep it looking smooth and clear.

JemimaPuddle · 24/09/2013 07:31

Every day, twice a day, without fail.

There's no way I could go to bed without cleaning my face, that's just grim.

naturelover · 24/09/2013 16:38

I have never used toner. I have mostly used wash-off cleansers so didn't see the point.

Currently use (morning) Simple face wash in shower followed by Eucerin spf15 moisturiser.
At night Liz Earle C&P then Liz Earle moisturiser.

Have religiously cleansed and moisturised twice a day since my teens, using spf during the day. My skin is good but I don't look younger than my age (39)!

shopafrolic · 26/09/2013 07:17

Can I ask, for those of you using wash off cleansers, how do you remove your eye make up? Can ones like Liz Earle be applied to the eye area / lashes etc?

naturelover · 26/09/2013 08:01

I go over my eyes after I've washed my face with Simple eye make-up remover on a cotton pad. I find that removes what's left after washing.

Eliza22 · 26/09/2013 08:21

I remove all eye makeup using Waitrose own Eye Makeup Remover. Cheap as chips and very gentle.
Then use a wash off cleanser and at night, a toner to make sure all face paint is gone.

I have really good skin.
SPF ++ and makeup for years has protected it.

AGnu · 26/09/2013 08:25

Wow, where do you all find the time?! I have rosacea so even the Simple products can be problematic for my skin. What I'm finding works well for me is a tiny bit of Simple all-in-one baby wash when I'm in the bath followed by coconut oil. I'm not all that bothered by it most of the time though so I regularly forget!

bigkidsdidit · 26/09/2013 08:26

I've started recently - bioderma micellar water cleanser, clarins exfoliating toner, hydrating serum and clarins day cream in the morning. In the evening, cleanse with balm, toner again, advance night repair and rosehip oil. My skin has never looked better, I can't believe the difference.

bigkidsdidit · 26/09/2013 08:28

It only takes five minutes! Plus teeth plus plucking an eyebrow hair or two = ten minutes before bed. Not that hard to fit in!

EstelleGetty · 26/09/2013 08:34

I wash my face with Avene cold cream bar in the shower, which is lovely and moisturising for my dry, sensitive skin, and takes all my eye makeup off too. If I feel I need it, I'll use a bit of Klorane bleuet toner/eye makeup remover. Then Clinique moisturiser and Garnier BB cream for day, Kiehl's night oil for night.

QuietNinjaTardis · 26/09/2013 08:51

I don't. I may sometimes use a cleanser but its rare. Normally a scrub with face cloth and water then moisturise with steam cream. I rarely wear make up but just use wipes to take it off. My skin is sensitive and even products marketed for sensitive skin can make it red and blotchy. My skin is ok, bit tired but then I'm not sleeping and pregnant at the mo so expect to look that way.

Fairylea · 26/09/2013 08:55

I use aldi wipes with nivea cream to take off make-up, wash with a basic face wash to get rid of residue, and then chuck a load of astral on afterwards!

I spent 10 years working for chanel and clinqiue and even when I had access to all their products I still found my way best!

LividofLondon · 26/09/2013 15:40

I'm finding the less I do to my skin the better it is. If I'm wearing make-up I'll use remover on my eyes then just gentle soap all over my face and neck. If I then put moisturiser on I often wake up with spots on my cheeks. If I'm not wearing make-up I'll just use the gentle soap then apply a small amount of lightweight moisturiser if required.

persimmon · 26/09/2013 16:05

Splash with lukewarm water in the morning, cleanse with a facial wipe, another splash and some moisturizer in the evening. I wear make up most days. My skin is unwrinkly. (43)

festered · 26/09/2013 16:07

Cleanse with witch hazel or herbalism cleanser from Lush, moisuturise with castor or coconut oil.

I used a serum for a while, I can't find one with good recommendations or I would get another.
I don't wear make up on my face-I do on my eyes and I take the eyeshadow off but not the mascara as I have false eyelashes done whcih last a couple of weeks and I dont want to take those off lol.
I do facial exercises as well. Get a lot of compliments on my skin.

MerrilyMoo · 26/09/2013 16:14

I love lotions and potions, but have never got on with toner. Its drying and pointless, imho.

I cleanse at night - currently use Elemis Melting Cleansing Gel which is a nice, very gentle hot cloth cleanser. Then use a few drops of facial oil (just discovered Trilogy Rosehip Oil - fab, although doesnt smell as good as previous brands I have tried e.g. Clarins, Neal'sYard). Then a bit of night cream when the oil has sunk in a bit (currently trying out Boots Protect and Perfect) and some eye cream (Loreal).

Mornings I just wet my face in the shower, use a few drops of the facial oil and then a moisturiser with SPF (my favourite new discovery is the Boots rip-off of Simple - its decent and cheap as chips).

ExcuseTypos · 26/09/2013 16:30

Yes, twice a day since I was 15.

I cannot sleep if I have makeup on. Even if I've been paralytic out for the evening, I always manage to do it.

MyChildDoesntNeedSleep · 26/09/2013 16:40

WHAT DOES DOUBLE CLEANSE MEAN?

goodasitgets · 26/09/2013 17:02

Cleanse twice
First one removes makeup/grime
Second one actually cleanses your skin
