So, are bootleg jeans a complete no no?

I'm just too short and curvy to get away with skinnies (plus I wore them when they were called drainpipes and I was 2 sizes smaller). Can I give in to my age (mid 40s) and wear bootlegs that actually suit me?

I'm an hourglass shape with big tummy and thighs (ok bum and slim calves), have tried on sooooo many skinnies and straight jeans / trousers, they have all looked hideous! Legs look like carrots in them. High heeled boots might help but won't wear heels in day time as have joint problems.

So wear flares.

PrincessFlirtyPants · 15/09/2013 20:43

I'm just saying what I don't like on me, everyone else can wear what they like! I suppose it could have read as a generalisation but that wasn't my intention. Smile

Karbea · 15/09/2013 20:57

Just found this, could be quite useful when trying to work out which shoes/boots to wear with which jeans.

Bunbaker · 16/09/2013 06:38

I wouldn't be able to walk in most of the shoes suggested on there.

PrimalLass · 16/09/2013 10:04

Skinny jeans look fab on my skinny 9 year old. My nearly 11 year old is wearing bootleg - she's not (at all) fat, but has wide hips, and doesn't feel comfortable in skinnys. There isn't much choice for kids, her jeans are from Debenhams, practically everywhere else does skinny ones. Am I going to have to persuade her into skinnys so she doesn't stand out?

Have you tried Boden? These are nice and go up to an age 12.

Being large of calf I cant wear skinnies and have yet to find a pair of slim fit that are not too tight on the legs whilst fitting on the waist.

I wear boot cut with pride because I have to

practicality · 16/09/2013 11:25

Boot cuts are more fashionable than skinnies and suit most people miles more.

squoosh · 16/09/2013 11:31

I don't like bootcuts with flat shoes either, I personally think they look too flappy.

parasaurolophus · 16/09/2013 11:34

I think it is a mistake to wear unflattering clothes just because they are fashionable.

I can only wear skinnies with boots otherwise my legs look like parsnips.

I would rather look good in Bootcuts (or flares, whatever it is you can buy in the shops now), than unattractive in skinnies.

ZaraW · 16/09/2013 11:43

I tried some boot cuts on the other day and there was just too much fabric. Felt wrong. I'll be sticking to cropped and skinnies.

TallulahBetty · 16/09/2013 11:48

Of course they're not. Wear what you like and what suits you, not what strangers on a forum/magazines etc tell you is fashionable Hmm

PomBearArmy · 16/09/2013 11:50

I was faithful to my bootcuts when they were in fashion, I'm faithful to them now they're 'out' and I'll still be wearing them when everyone else starts again Grin

It's about what flatters your shape. I'm an apple shape and bootcuts balance me. I'm not going to walk about looking like a bowling ball on legs just so I can tell myself I'm 'in'. At some point you know how to dress yourself and you put that above fashion. To me skinnies only look good on women who are slim all over.

TheArticFunky · 16/09/2013 15:05

I mainly wear straight/slim jeans. I like skinny jeans but it is so hard to find any that fit, I'm an apple, need 2 sizes bigger round the waist. Boot legs really do look quite frumpy now. Boyfriend jeans are so comfy and I wear them round the house but can't go out in them as they just swamp me, I also think they look on the scruffy side and that is not a look that I can pull off.

Bunbaker · 16/09/2013 15:07

"I'm faithful to them now they're 'out'"

I don't think they are out now. There are more boot cut than other styles in the shops.

Kikithecat · 16/09/2013 15:13

Hello Morris I'm a big fan of boyfriends too and currently wear them with flat lace-up ankle boots. Can't see why they wouldn't go with any kind of ankle boot really - the boot just need to be inside the jeans.

CorrieDale · 16/09/2013 15:24

I always wear bootcuts. I have very short legs and sturdy thighs. I did not sweat fat to lose 3 stone so I could look like an apple atop two parsnips. Don't get me wrong - I love fashion. I'd like to wear skinnies. But if the bootcuts fit...

KoalaFace · 16/09/2013 15:41

I've seen photos in magazines and online of Miranda Kerr and Victoria Beckam in the last month or so in bootlegs.

That was good enough for me. I'm back in mine and my thighs look half the size!

PomBearArmy · 16/09/2013 16:20

Bunbaker Oh good! I was thinking I never have any trouble finding them.

sixwoollydogs · 16/09/2013 17:14

try straight or slim leg - I am the same. Skinny look awful..... (child bearing hips and all that :-) )

MorrisZapp · 16/09/2013 19:08

Thanks kiki, I'm in the market for ankle boots so will try on with my BJ's

ShoeWhore · 16/09/2013 20:49

You go for it OP!

I've got some too but I'm calling them skinny flares Grin Not sure what boots to wear with them for winter though...

Beaverfeaver · 16/09/2013 20:51

I'm 27 and prefer bootcuts

Stepawayfromthezebras · 18/09/2013 14:22

I think they're coming back, maybe a bit more flared than the late 90's/early noughties so they cover more of your shoe - as Koalaface has said, VB seems to be a fan
Burberry do a lovely pair

squoosh · 18/09/2013 14:38

Those Burberry ones are nice although I think it looks really silly when you can't even see any of the foot, seems as though they're levitating!

wordfactory · 18/09/2013 14:41

Last Summer we rented a house in Italy and let me tell you, boot cuts were still everywhere.

Italian women know that skinnies suit very few and will only wear things that look good. Fashion be damned!
