Bra experiences post Mumsnet fitting guide!

Just thought I 'd enquire where everyone was at post Mumsnet fitting expertise!
I have went from a 34D to a 32F or a 34EE.
When I look at my old bras they just look ridiculously( sp) wrong.
I cannot understand how I could not have been aware of this !!
My clothes sit better , my boobs are pert.
I look like less of a sausage shape as I have no defined waist.
The only downsize is that I have gone from the pretty bra range to the bigger and not always gorgeous Bras!
I was recently in the states and Victoria Secreat had only 4 bras in an EE cup and they did not go any bigger than that!
So any suggestions for gorgeous larger bra stockists are welcome ! And guidance on the fit of the bras too !

It's a t-shirt bra. They didn't have any others around my size so I couldn't try them on

Awakeagain · 08/09/2013 17:49

If gone in to la senzs feeling like I knew what I was buying and had to ask the lady
I'd decided 34d/dd but was still coming up not quite right
I had got a 36 (can't remember what cup) but not working so not wanting a wasted trip I asked for assistance
She measured me and said my measurements had me at a 38, looked at me and said 'well you're clearly not that!' And we went for a 36d
I think the up a back size down a cup size had just got lost on me somewhere in the shop! And I had tried in a bra that just wasn't working for me regardless of what size

If she can look at me as say 'you clearly aren't that size!' Surely she has pointed out a flaw in the measuring system straight away!!
Happy with my 36d bras any way
Before that I had been preggers and then breast feeding so have no idea what 'actual' size I was

SorrelForbes · 08/09/2013 18:07

Ah, ok, that style are quite difficult to fit as they don't mould to your own shape IYSWIM? They also tend to come up quite high at the sides (more of a plunge shape than a true balconette) and that might be causing the digging in. A bigger cup in a better style might work for you.

SorrelForbes · 08/09/2013 18:11

Awakeagain

It sounds like the assistant was (unusually for La Senza) able to see that her measuring guide was coming up with the wrong size.

I did a secret shopper experiment in my local branch and whilst the assistant agreed with me that the size she'd fitted me at just wasn't right, she couldn't then work out how to rectify the issues with the fit. They use the outdated +4/5" method of fitting and just don't understand the cup volume/band ratio rule!

SpottyTeacakes · 08/09/2013 18:15

Thanks Smile I will update when I get the cleos!

MarianForrester · 08/09/2013 18:27

Just wanted to add that I have done the bra guru thing and come out as a 32 or 34 F or G.

I am a bit of a bra snob, and normally wear Wacoal, but in emergency tried on a pack of two from Asda in a 34G, and do you know what, they are pretty darn good! Am amazed, as they were £9 for the two Shock

They are very blue, and black and blue, but well worth a try. The separate black one I tried was not so supportive at the sides and not for me..

MarianForrester · 08/09/2013 18:29

Only thing is, I should add, they don't do a 32 band, not at all, it appears. But maybe they will see after all this that there is market for it.

SneezySnatcher · 08/09/2013 19:23

I am now 28GG. Bloody impossible to buy bras in my town!

chocolatemartini · 08/09/2013 19:33

Can someone please link the mumsnet fitting rules please? I've never known what my bra size is and always had badly fitting bras.

Awakeagain · 08/09/2013 19:56

Think I'd been in and out if the changing rooms an obviously not managed to pick a style in the right size
I was a bit Hmm to ask for help!
But shocked still that she knew her measuring wasn't right and that my choice was almost right

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/09/2013 20:07

thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk - the fitting guide section. POst measurements if you want to confirm size.

Nagasaki · 08/09/2013 20:12

I've gone from a 34B to a 32E. Having never experienced buying DD+ bras before, I'm shocked at the lack of choice. I think retailers need to adapt to this method of measuring and stock more/better bras...

picnicbasketcase · 08/09/2013 20:20

I've stuck with wearing the ones I already had, I tried the sizes recommended and they just didn't fit - even though the cup sizes were bigger, my boobs wouldn't fit into them, even with the scooping thing, whilst they do in my 'old' size Confused

chocolatemartini · 08/09/2013 20:28

Ok thanks!

LyonsDemesne · 08/09/2013 21:58

Nagazaki I am the same! I was wearing 34D and and now 34e or 32 f and the choice is minimal and they all have that industrial 3 clasp at the back.
32/34 thru to a g is not that big!
think we need to start hassling the big supermarkets for affordable styles for all Grin

My 30GG and 32G and 32FF bras are stunning, OP! They are nicer than my old 36D/34DD because I no longer find underwires uncomfortable.

SorrelForbes · 08/09/2013 22:04

The Cleo range only has 2 hooks even in bigger cup sizes.

LyonsDemesne · 10/09/2013 13:00

sorrel you are most certainly the font of all bra knowledge! Thank you

Oh gosh, I only know a little! marriednotdead is the bra head girl. Stats is probably Games captain and I'm knocking around as monitor of the fourth!

I'm a Cleo fan Grin

carlywurly · 10/09/2013 19:38

I've gone from a 36 dd to a 34 g - far better. I can bend over without holding my hand on my chest to stop everything spilling out Grin

I went from a 36d to a 30g. I love the fauve fantasie range.

blueraincoat · 10/09/2013 20:49

I went from a 40F/G to 38HH, find myself looking at my reflection in shop windows, shop assistants must think I'm Narcissus. Even DP noticed the difference. Trying to stage an intervention with my friend who is wearing a 40B but we measured her and she's a 36 band! It's a work in progress. Thanks Sorrell!

Also just like to say I'm so impressed with Bravissimos service used to be horrified at the idea of going for a bra fitting but it was actually quite fun!

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/09/2013 21:19

at the image of me as Games Captain - although I would enforce good sports bras!

Godlessdomestic · 10/09/2013 21:28

I have lost a significant amount of weight recently and prior to that I was wearing a 40DD. After reading all about the 'new' way of measuring I became a 36E which was a revelation. My boobs have never looked so good. I have since lost more and am now measuring at 35" with 42" 'drop. What size would you now suggest I try? I don't want to spend a fortune as I am planning to drop more weight.
