ani first of all i, love all your boots! , i like the burgundy coat best ,great cut and color, love the concealed buttons , def my fav.

Decameron · 08/09/2013 22:27

Liberty, please report back on the coats!

Hope you took it easy tonight,Anni. I like the maroon coat most, great colour for a drab winter's day.

I think Burberry have a store in Westfield so DD2 and I will take a spin up there next week when she has a free morning. All her little classes start again this week, tomorrow we have to go shopping for ballet shoes for her, she start on Weds and is so excited (she's a big Angelina fan).

Annianni · 08/09/2013 22:28

I think that's my favourite at the moment Santa, I love the colour.

libertychick · 08/09/2013 23:02

Anni the burgundy one is lovely but I also like the first one and I think the 4th one you have linked captures the EA vibe best. You have inspired me to take a look in Cos this week too - maybe I can do the coat a lot cheaper than I think.

Decam there is a Burberry in Westfield - clocked it when I was there last weekend with my sister but was being good and focusing on her so didn't go in.

libertychick · 08/09/2013 23:12

Feeling guilty about DD ATM - today we went out and brought one of her favourite teddies with us and left it on a Rupert Bear ride - I went back a few hours later but it was gone (the person who took it removed the outfit DD had dressed the teddy in and left that in the little car Shock)...

And now tonight I got cross with her as over the last week or two she has being getting more and more difficult at bedtime constantly calling me back up so I told her I wan't coming back to the room anymore and then she just went completely silent - she's asleep now but feeling really guilty that she might have actually needed something and was too shocked to call out - how ridiculous am I????

So I have consoled myself by spending just over £100 on new stuff for her on Boden....I can see the collective eye rolls now - I am eye rolling at myself....

Annianni · 08/09/2013 23:25

Aw... Liberty, she'll have been fine.
Shocking about the teddy though, who does that?!

I do like the grey cocoon type coat and it was in my original top 3.
But I've got an ancient green one with 3/4 sleeves that's quite similar, and it's getting dyed navy in the next few days.
So if that works out, I'd rather have a different style.

I might go to Selfridges tomorrow and see if they've got any of the others in stock.
They only had the first charcoal one last time, and a shorter green coat.
I need to return the boring navy cardi to gap anyway.

Annianni · 08/09/2013 23:27

What have you ordered for your dd?
If I had a dd, we'd be bankrupt by now :o

Mominatrix · 09/09/2013 06:05

Morning! Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I spent Saturday emergency babysitting 2 children of a French colleague of DH who desperately needed to get some work done, but was shafted in terms of childcare. Do NOT believe the myth that French children don't throw food - I was left exhausted , and stunned by the sheer volume and bad behaviour I had to deal with. Poor DS1 was used as a punching bag, and DS2 had a blast in equalling their behaviour. However, the little girl was gorgeously dressed.

Anyone keeping an eye on NYFW? Not really loving anything yet - liked some of the Alexander Wang pleated minis, but I am too old to wear one now.

Love the Celine Trapeze santa - great present from DH!

Ani, love the look you are going for and prefer the second to the last one.

Liberty - good thing I don't have a daughter, not because of my shopping for her, but DH! He used to talk about how he was going to take his future DD to Paris and the Faubourg St Honore to go shopping for her birthdays. Well, he ended up with sons, so all that shopping is still just done for me. Shocked by the bear incident - what a strange world we live in now.

Linus - your weekend makes mine seem tame. Re diets - do the one you know you can stick to easily, but also realize that unless you permanently change the way to eat you will regain slowly back the weight. Diets, particularly drastic ones, are a sure-fire way to ruin your metabolism.

will catch up on everyone later this am. Am looking forward to wearing my Hugo Guinness for J Crew midnight blue cashmere jumper with a print of a dog on it. Will wear with white skinnies, white button down shirt, and black low-heel pointed pumps with PVC these.

Drywhiteplease · 09/09/2013 08:12

Anni it's a great coat look you're going for...I really love the burgundy, but I'm a bit partial to that colour.
Liberty teddy story is horrid. My two,ESP DS, had special teddies, so I know how heart breaking it can be to loose one.

I have a quick question:

A while back ( maybe not on this thread) someone said wearing black trs/skirt with coloured top ( or was it just black and red?) was a bit old fashioned.
One of the many things this thread has taught me is to be more creative with colour...but for work I'm finding it hard to not wear black bottoms occasionally,I've taken it a bit to heart I guess.
Today I w going to wear black 7/8 with fushia Boden jumper and animal slippers, but decided against it....what do you think?
Similarly I have a black above the knee a line that I wear with black opaques and a coloured jumper, ankle/biker boots/ black slippers (that i havent bought yet) bit frumpy?
Today I'm wearing toffee 7/8, animal slippers(M and S), black ahhhhh cotton fine knit from Gap, statement necklace, animal print belt....too matchy?

shopafrolic · 09/09/2013 08:40

Lots of Sam Edelman on Cocosa this morning.
Adenas, Gables (including the orange ones Hopefully) and some cute snakeskin flats Marsha
Waves to all.......

Liberty yes I am a winter. It was a good experience, just trying to get my head around the colours now. I like them but they don't seem v trendy!

Here are my best colours.

Anni I like the pale Cos coat, but also love the burgundy colour. Like the EA look you pinned, I love coats like that.

Dry I like the sound of your outfit, doesn't sound too matchy matchy to me. I think it was Amber who said about black with colour?? I find black trousers with a coloured top a bit dull but then what do you wear with black trousers? Or is the answer to avoid black trousers

I am most looking forward to wearing my Ash spiral boots and black leather jacket.

I have started to think of a AW wish list now:
Taupe ash spiral
coated jeans (not too skinny - does this exist?)
Ruched skirt
A few tops in my best colours.

Think that is it...v restrained - for now!

Linus I am pondering trying the 5:2 diet, sounds like an easy one to follow and I don't do self denial very well.

Annianni · 09/09/2013 09:47

MrsR Gap had some coated skinnys last week that looked nice but not too skinny.

The fuchsia, black and animal print sounds nice Dry.
Or what about navy with the black trousers?

Thanks for the boot love Santa, I can't wait to wear them.
I debated wearing the Marants today, but we're forecast heavy rain and I'm scared!
Need to spray them later...

I won't be wearing skinny trousers and heels like EA unfortunately, I'll be in slim leg jeans and boots.

Just getting ready to go out.
There may be live updates from Selfridges changing rooms in an hour or two! :o

AmberNectarine · 09/09/2013 10:15

MrsR yes that's me with the black trousers/coloured top. I don't know, I just have an absolute hatred of black with brights. Usually I would only wear grey, navy or white with black trousers. I might, very occasionally wear a deep burgundy or dark forest green. Sometimes I wear cobalt and black but I never really feel happy about it. I just think brights with black makes the black look drab and the colour look cheap, but that is my own opinion and essentially worth nothing :)

QueenCadbury · 09/09/2013 10:57

dry I was about to say that it's amber who especially hates red and black Wink. I personally don't mind it. I wear black 7/8 all the time to go out although usually with black, navy or white but I do wear bright cardigans/jumpers with my black jeans. I know what you mean about looking frumpy but I think it's because black trousers and coloured top seem to be the default of most people because it's easy and therefore can look like you've made no effort iyswim. I think if you put animal flats with it then it's obvious you've made an effort and not just stuck in a time warp.

anni all the coats are lovely especially the burgundy. They're the sort of shape that need to be tried on though as I can imagine some may not look right on. Love the look you're channeling though.

needastrongone · 09/09/2013 11:02

Morning.

I am tired, having camped all weekend. I have only skimmed over the posts but vow to keep up from now on Smile

The weekend did go well for DD, she was riding in a 'pairs' competition and came 2nd, they would have won easily if they had not been eliminated from one race for a technicality. She did have a nasty fall though (think pony spooking, rearing, losing footing and falling backwards on top of DD - I can't think too deeply about how bad it could have been otherwise I would cry), so I was so proud of her choosing to compete again in the next session and the commentary team did make a massive deal of her bravery in the final, which she was pleased with.

So, no chance for fashion at all this weekend, only practicalities. Lots of money in the horsey world but the vast majority goes on the ponies and associated equipment (some astonishing horse boxes on show), most of the owners look decidedly scruffy with the odd Joules sweatshirt thrown in though Smile

Mom - your plan to cross train and keep the mileage low is good, I didn't do enough cross training. Working on your core strength will keep injury at bay too - it makes you more efficient as a runner.

McNally - Agree, the flexibility was paramount for me when I started running. Being able to commit to a specific class each week was never going to work, with DH working the hours he does.

This week I want to add to my wardrobe with some skirts, practical for day to day wear but that look good too. I'm in a slouchy dress today with dark tights. I am a bit sick skinny jeans, I have a myriad of skinny jeans.

libertychick · 09/09/2013 11:19

Trinny and Susannah always said not to wear black with bright colours! I wear black with navy, white, burgundy or deep reds, olive, grey etc. I tend to wear bright pinks etc with navy or grey rather than with black. Have to be careful with black and white in case of looking like a waitress!! I wore black and white print trousers with a white shirt one day this summer and DH couldn't stop grinning - he eventually told me I looked like a chef Shock

The teddy incident really upset me - luckily she has a few she likes. I'm an idiot for letting her take it with us. I saw the outfit from a distance so thought 'yes, it's there' and was really shocked that someone had taken the trouble to undress the teddy and take it. I'm thinking about putting a note on the ride to say how much DD misses the teddy to see if that would guilt trip the person into returning it...

Anni I bought her stripy knickers, stripy socks, PJ's, heart patch jeans, bike T-Shirt and bird T-shirt...all basics really. I only started buying her boden stuff very recently, got some summer things in the clearance sales and was impressed with the quality. DH is constantly buying things for her - latest is goose down duvet and Designers Guild bed linen (thankfully from TKMaxx).

QueenCadbury · 09/09/2013 11:20

for dry

and another

liberty meant to say, don't feel too bad. Dc try and try our patience. As a mum though I would never let my dc take a teddy they found in case someone came back for it.

libertychick · 09/09/2013 11:22

I'm enjoying the running chat and tips too - my friend and I are thinking about signing up for the Great North Run - we used to do lots of 10kms pre babies and we both want to get back into it. My knees are not good though....

libertychick · 09/09/2013 11:25

Thanks QueenC - first thing this morning she said 'I am upset, I was hot last night and you not let me shout out', followed very closely with 'my friend Glenda (the teddy) is lost'....mini queen of the guilt trip....

QueenCadbury · 09/09/2013 12:24

The trick if you go up to her when she's shouting out is to not interact with her at all. All she really wants is your attention. Do what she asks eg drink/sort out duvet/whatever feeble thing they come up with but do not talk to her. She'll soon get bored. Maybe a reward for not shouting at bedtime for a week could result in a new teddy?

I used to love running and did the great north run pre dc. I last did a 10k before dc3 but I had back pain for 6 weeks afterwards. After dc3 I find that I cannot run or do high impact at all without it hurting my back. A combination of really tight hamstrings and 3 pregnancies with SPD has left my back weak. I'm trying to get into cycling now or I power walk or do nothing

needastrongone · 09/09/2013 12:31

Queen C - I really like both of those outfits, the fuschia pink is fab.

libertychick - don't let your DD give you a guilt trip, it gets worse the older they get! I used to buy a lot of Boden for DD when she was smaller. I particularly liked their trousers/cords/jeans as they were fab quality and quite individual. The T Shirts I found were more hit and miss in terms of quality and having to pay P&P for returns used to annoy me if I am being honest. Sadly, at 12, there's not chance she will go near Boden, apart from the very odd pair of skinnies.

Perusing the web for mini skirts, either animal print or tartan. I can then buy more boots - I like buying boots.

DH overseas for a week. He asked about perfume, which one did I want, as he always brings some back. Does anyone have any favourites that are quite light for daytime? I am fully stocked for 'heavier' scents.

mignonette · 09/09/2013 12:35

Aww Liberty. People are just rotten in their souls aren't they? You'll have to weave an elaborate bedtime story about Travelling Teddy and the magic Teddy ride (and leave out the fact that Teddy appears to have gone on an adventure stark naked Grin)....

Dry If you like what you see in the mirror, wear your black bottoms and bright top half with confidence. Emmanuelle Alt steadfastly sports black trousers/white shirt combination and everybody raves over her. The Devil is in the detail I say. If you want to wear a bright colour block look w/ black pants then wear accessories like scarves, a good watch or jewellery and some cool shoes.A big tough leather belt worn w/ black and white can help mitigate the waitress look.

In fact the colour block w/ black pants look is the time to bring out the 'big shoe guns' and wear something a bit different/high/directional/....I tend to ignore fashion 'rules' because there should be no rules other than 'does it make me happy/confident/feel good when i see my reflection?'

I went out this morning all Autumnal-like wearing my DM brown Biker boots, a cream/nut brown and ochre check tweed fluted midi skirt (ancient Jigsaw) and my pale blue boiled cashmere boat neck sweater. I came home an hour later to change because I was too hot. Not quite there yet w/ the A/W woollens. So now in my red Ralph Lauren skirt w/ its white Ginkgo leaf print worn w/ the pale blue sweater (looks better than it sounds as I love pale blue w/ red) and Silver Edelman sandals (cold feet).

I had a good rummage in my stored clothing and have found so many items that are perfect for this season that I won't need to buy that much. I need new winter shoes and a coat/jacket. Maybe a couple of skirts in a directional cut and pattern and some shirts. But I have so much plaid/tartan/check in shapes that are current so won't buy much of that. I have pinched an old pair of DS's pants too, a pair of black/red mini check skinnies that fit like a glove and don't have that saggy butt that so many straight skinny pants get. I also have a cream Thierry Mugler zip moufflon wool jacket that I was going to consign to Kerry Taylor but might keep to wear myself.

needastrongone · 09/09/2013 12:36

Oh the running - The GNR is quite soon isn't it? You might only get charity places for this year now I think. I just walk the dog these days, he's a Springer so needs a lot of walking, a couple of hours a day which I figure is enough.

The core work (think Pilates etc) helps with knee issues and back pain as you run more efficiently, as would running on soft surfaces (used to do a lot of off road running myself, it works more muscles that the repetitive pounding on pavements etc) and good quality, correctly fitted running shoes, but agree, it's a high impact sport and you can't really escape from that!

mignonette · 09/09/2013 12:41

Needs

I like 'O' De Lancome in either the original or 'Azure' Summer limited edition. The new Cucumber/Melon Issy Miyake for Men is lovely on Women too here. Also' Flowerbomb' by Victor & Rolf, any of the Jo Malone colognes including her new ones here

Tom Ford Azure Lime here and Prada here are two I wear daytime a lot especially when w/ patients who may not appreciate a stronger heavier scent.

Finally, Chanel's 'Bel Respiro here is a dream of a scent.

OneLittleLady · 09/09/2013 12:54

Just into September and the lemsip are out already! Every year this happens, it's like my body just gives up around the start of September and then the bugs invade! Need to stop it getting on my chest though as I won't be able to sing with a bad chest. Plus, having being diagnosed with asthma earlier in the year, it explains why colds always head straight to my chest and refuse to shift!
