Am on the way to the wedding (in lake district). Was pretty stressed about having to do the journey, leave the baby for the weekend etc so splashed out on first class tickets. Am now in the first class QUIET carriage, just been served coffee at my seat. For four blissful hours! Still dreading the wedding a bit and knackered from wakeful baby last night but sooo peaceful on here . . . (bit queasy though, shame I get travel sick).

Going to go and look at the Jaeger bags now (before getting on with some serious work, obviously).

OneLittleLady · 06/09/2013 14:52

It's very very wet here. Went out in a black floral wrap dress, plum coloured opaques, flat black ankle boots, short stone coloured mac and a cream with red and black print scarf. Got absolutely drenched as I left my umbrella in my other bag Grin

Drywhiteplease · 06/09/2013 15:43

I saw the Jaeger bags today...they are very lovely and there's 25% off until Monday in Grazia (GRZA25AW)
Bought this skirt.... Naughty me!!!!
And a dark olive green Vero Moda jersey dress with exposed zips on 3/4 sleeve (not for you QueenC! I love exp zips) really really nice, cheap too......now need a beige suede shoe boot to go with. Will try to find links.

Grumpy I've been lusting about the sequinned sweated too....love the navy.
Needsa good luck with the camping.....I'm Yorkshire and its been chucking it down all day......or should I say "chooking it down""?

Drywhiteplease · 06/09/2013 15:45

I love the description of the blue Jeager skirt...."for those with a penchant for punk".....not really me is it?Shock

mignonette · 06/09/2013 16:13

Dry That is one wonderful skirt. I am smitten with that and might have to order it. I do laugh at fashion's appropriation of punk when it was actually anti fashion Grin....

mignonette · 06/09/2013 16:14

Oops posted too soon. What do ppl think of Alexa Chung on the cover of this months UK Vogue? I mean, up until now what does she actually do? And i would love to see her copy for the magazine before the Editors get their hands on it!

Drywhiteplease · 06/09/2013 16:20

mig what do you think of this one.....versatile or garish?

OneLittleLady · 06/09/2013 16:26

dry it's actually, 'chuckin' it dahn' Wink

QueenCadbury · 06/09/2013 16:35

I hate you dry and mig Grin. I'd only looked at jaegars clothes and totally forgot about their lovely bags. Now I can't get the Jennifer out of my head. Not sure that I can justify £75 on a bag right now. And I wouldn't be able to decide on blue or green!

QueenCadbury · 06/09/2013 16:36

nothing special IMHO.

mignonette · 06/09/2013 16:38

Dry You are my go to girl for spending too much at Jaeger. Are you secretly an employee of them Grin? I also covet that skirt. They are both my taste incarnate. Go for it. I do love an inverted pleat too.

Queen But that bag will last and last and last. heh heh. You looked beautiful BTW in your Westwood. Hope your DH is proud.

mignonette · 06/09/2013 16:41

God Queen She's guest editing too? Because of course all the years of slog and honing ones craft to write/edit is totally unnecessary isn't it? Or maybe Chung was just born able to do it?

Makes me burn w/ annoyance. Starting to prefer Harpers now anyway. Justine Picardie has done wonders with the magazine since taking over.

QueenCadbury · 06/09/2013 16:48

Dh hasn't seen it irl yet as he's been on a jolly at a conference. Wrt to guest editors, it's just another celebrity sham. She's basically putting her name to something but probably did no work at all except maybe sit in a couple of meetings. It's like all these celebs designing clothes/shoes/perfume/whatever.

My gap order arrived. these tees are a disappointment as they're a really boxy shape so not good on me at all. this jumper is gorgeous colour but took it off the minute I put it own as I was too hot! Will try gain properly this evening.

OneLittleLady · 06/09/2013 16:51

Chung annoys me, she just doesn't seem to do anything. I don't like her style, I find it very dull and predictable. guest editor? Yeah, because she has some special talent pool that other people who have worked their way up from the bottom just don't have Hmm

mignonette · 06/09/2013 17:09

I think if you like the knock kneed 'I'm a girl-child-woman' look aspirational, then Chung is your woman Wink. I like my role models to look capable and to have something other than a large wardrobe full of stuff they haven't even purchased.

OneLittleLady · 06/09/2013 17:12

I guess I don't really have any specific role models, I just can't abide the latest crop of celebrities that are famous for being famous. I mean, what do they do? what do they offer to people? Nothing as far as I can see. If you're in such an elevated position in society, you should be giving something back

McNally · 06/09/2013 17:14

Bought Vogue and Harper's Bazaar earlier to read tonight (DH is out - planning magazines and wine). Didn't realise Alexa Ching was editing it. There's a piece in there where she writes about the shows and models couture. I'm with QueenC on the celeb collaboration thing. Not sure what the point is re editing magazines though. Would anyone buy a magazine because of a guest editor?!

Sleepwhenidie · 06/09/2013 17:22

Lovely skirt Dry - fab colour.

I am wearing this skirt with white slubby t shirt, a pendant and black pistols. Enjoying wearing the skirt in particular as it has been too hot until now.

Marsha I think I'm getting used to the hair, still not sure I like it though Smile. I am going to give it the weekend before getting a few more highlights put through. Glad your meeting went well.

Shop glad to hear your Dad is ok (weird when you weren't worrying about him not being but you know what I mean Grin) .

McNally my course is to become an "Eating Psychology Coach", basically a nutritionist come therapist, so rather than just advising people on their diet I hope to be able to help them understand why they eat/don't eat as they do, stop yo yo dieting/exercise avoidance - essentially to make peace with their body image/stop food 'battles' and see food as something healing and enjoyable. I intend to do a personal training qualification after this but suspect that there are enough PT's around, all giving the same sort of prescriptive advice. I would be compassionate nutritionist first, PT second if people wanted some advice and personal training as well.

Mig - Achica has a promotion on Bronte throws starting on Saturday, I have one or two from there that are lovely. If you are interested PM me your email address and I can invite you to join Achica and you will get £10 credit too (as will I if you buy anything).

DH and I have our first date for about a month tonight. Feel like we should finally have a meal without the kids, something we haven't managed through the holidays, but having also spent 24/7 with each other for 6 weeks there's not a whole lot of chatting to catch up on Grin. So we are thinking maybe cinema - has anyone seen 'Ain't them bodies saints'?

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 17:23

I know I actively don't buy magazines if someone I really don't like is on the cover. And there are quite a few of those (I am grumpy, after all). I feel I'm making a small stand against the pointless celebs if I don't buy. I vaguely remember Alexa Chung interviewing people on one of those pretentious teen-centric Sunday morning programmes (T4?), but that was a while ago and hardly justifies he outrageous amount of exposure she's had since for wearing clothes she's been given/blagged

shopafrolic · 06/09/2013 17:25

Waves to all - flying visit. I subscribe to Harpers - love love love the writing and lots of great stuff about the Arts too. Great products in their hot 100 beauty products this edition too.
Byeeeee

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/09/2013 17:40

While I'm here, can I pick your brains about where to stay in Edinburgh? DH and I possibly going to have a couple of days there in 2 weeks time and I'd like to be somewhere close to the city centre and would love to find some warm boutique-y type of place. Any suggestions?

MarshaBrady · 06/09/2013 17:40

I've got to get Harper's again if you all love it. It has been ages since I've bought it.

Mig good to see you back, I like reading your style / fashion posts.

I actually didn't mind Alexa Chung until I saw that cover. For some reason I find it really irritating. Might be some suspect photoshopping, she looks strange. AND guest editor I think not! God I could guest edit, any of us could then. Vogue by MarshaBrady yep I'll take that.

Now I'm not buying that Vogue on principle.

Sleep I love, love your new career. I think it is a great thing to do and you will be very good at it. I'm afraid I haven't been to the cinema for years! A combination of lots of long haul flights and too cheap to pay for a babysitter to turn up and us do anything other than have someone bring us food and prosecco. But would definitely go in your position.

Saw TDWP for the umpteenth time the other night and the part she does about cerulean blue is rushing back to me every time I see a pale pink coat....you're wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room from a pile of stuff. Still love the Streep Miranda role in that movie.

McNally · 06/09/2013 17:53

That course sounds great sleep - hugely interesting and rewarding. I'd not heard of it, though I suppose it is a branch of psychology of which there must be loads. Think I could do with one of those! Can't help with the film unfortunately. Last time I went to the cinema was to see James Bond at the baby screening!

Good for you Grumpy - they do seem to place importance on the effect the cover model has on circulation. Perhaps I should pay more attention to who it is.

McNally · 06/09/2013 17:56

Was a couple of years ago now, but really liked The Glasshouse in Edinburgh Grumpy. More recently stayed at the Hotel du Vin but preferred the former.

Annianni · 06/09/2013 17:58

Grumpy I've stayed at 23 Mayfield it's lovely, with the best breakfast ever.

It's about a mile from the city center.
