HoC Autumns

Seri77 · 20/08/2013 14:51

Thought I'd start a thread for autumns as the spring and winters threads seem busy and I feel I'm missing out!

I'm an autumn leaf and going for the style day soon. I haven't bought much this year as only had colours done a couple of months ago and waiting to discover my style before spending. I have been decluttering my wardrobe quite ruthlessly as I had a lot of the wrong colours/tatty clothes.

I did buy some Kettlewell tops and have had a few compliments so I certainly believe that colour analysis works.

Unfortunately my autumn/winter coats are black but expensive so I won't be replacing them for at least a couple of years.

Any suggestions for colourful hats/scarves/gloves to lift the black? High street brands please as I can't get parcels delivered to home.

I think (self diagnosed) that I'm an autumn - I have dark brown hair with red/ golden highlights, dark brown eyes and sallow skin. Does that sound right?

QueenofWhatever · 01/09/2013 11:12

GandT I'm of the school of thought that you can't self-diagnose, as it's not just based on hair, eye and skin colour. My eyes change colour all the time. Based on self-diagnosis, I was either a spring, summer or autumn. Also, the sub-diagnosis IYSWIM is also relevant. As a vibrant autumn, the more muted tomes just look sludgy on me.

I start teacher training a week on Monday, and have a sense of impending doom, so have been trying to nail a few wardrobe things. I actually spent some time yesterday morning trying different outfits on. It's such a women's magazine thing to do, but it really works. I've been doing Project 333 since Decembet, and now have a slimline wardrobe, which is working really well.

Couple of questions. What colour socks do you wear? Do you match with the trousers you're wearing, e.g. Blue trousers, blue socks? And where do you buy them?

Also, for those of you wearing golds and mustards, are they your two stars colours? I'm still apprehensive about them, as they're not colours I've ever worn.

My two star colours at 75% or more include chestnut, tan and coffee. Any ideas where would be good to look? I'm OK finding dark brown, but as others, am cautious of the poo look.

Re. Coats, I got a lovely grass green (two stars at 75% for me) wool coat off eBay. £12 and then another £12 for dry cleaning. I figured it was a low cost way to test it out. Darker browns and greens can look a little dreary and safe in the depths of winter.

Lovely jacket Seri - I'm very tempted as that is my perfect jacket shape. Is it pretty lightweight?

Seri77 · 01/09/2013 12:52

It is lightweight Charitygirl. I'm five three, size 12 broad of shoulder and narrow of waist and it sits beautifully on me.

Queen, gold and mustard are only ticks for me at 75-50% so I've only got one top which I wear with an olive green cami underneath to minimise the poo look. It looks far better than I expected.

I've got quite a few two star colours at 75-100% (rust, chestnut, tan, moss green and apple jade) but I haven't actually got anything in those colours yet except a tan handbag. Kettlewell have quite a few coffee coloured piece and I'm hoping that Kettlewell will have a scarf in one of the others in their autumn collection.

I suspect it's going to take a while to get suitable items in these colours. I see pinterest boards full of lovely things in those colours but can never find them in the shops so hoping someone out there will spot some for us.

Thanks Queen, saving up to get my colours done!

AnnetteCurtin · 01/09/2013 14:43

Hello, can I join in? I'm very excited about Autumn coming along. I've recently had a huge clear out of clothes - don't fit, wrong colours or stuff made in "sweaty" fabric (I work in a very hot office).

So I'm slowly getting together outfits and colours that are good for me. I posted my Pinterest board on another thread, it makes me feel cosy and happy just looking at it Grin.

Unfortunately Pinterest seems to be broken at the moment, grrrr, but here's my board if anyone wants a peek. It's not all outfits, there's also random things like landscapes etc. that appeal to me.

Phew, I rambled on a bit there, hope you've all not dozed off!!

charitygirl · 01/09/2013 17:13

Thanks Seri - as luck would have it I have a rare opportunity to pop into Jigsaw on Tuesday so hopefully can try it on. I'm taller than you but we sound v similarly shaped so fingers crossed.

GypsyFloss · 01/09/2013 18:11

I'm thinking I might too be an autumn and have finally taken the plunge and emailed the local HoC consultant. Bit scared now Grin

mrspolkadotty · 01/09/2013 20:23

Finally an Autumn thread, just been catching up!

Autumn is my favourite season for clothes too so i love this time of year when all the a/w collections start coming in.

I really want a green wool coat this winter and was looking at this one www.zara.com/uk/en/new-this-week/woman/double-breasted-wool-coat-c287002p1361001.html in the moss colour. Has anyone seen/tried/bought it yet and knows if it's a fitted style or a looser fit? Hard to tell on the sulky model slouching around lol

DipMeInChocolate · 01/09/2013 20:28

Funnily I was convinced I was a winter. Even sat in the consultation, looking at the colours praying I wasn't an Autumn. Too many murky colours for my liking, however I've embraced my autumnal-ness and love the colours on me. Ditched my silver jewellery, bought a lime green vest(!) And love the colours on me. Love that there's loads of gold jewellery out right now, having never worn green and brown they do actually suit me.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 01/09/2013 20:29

I've got that jigsaw jacket too Seri - it's really lovely. That style of jacket is perfect for me - I'm an inverted triangle (no waist slim hips broad shoulders).

Seri77 · 01/09/2013 20:39

A versatile jacket then Bill as my hips are most certainly not slim.

MadBusLady · 01/09/2013 20:41

I got an email from my local HoC lady because I signed up for that colour guide. Going to get it sorted after my dissertation is in.

Now really hoping I'm not a winter after all, I'd have to be a S&B thread turncoat!

GypsyFloss · 02/09/2013 07:50

Is silver jewellery not suitable for autumns? I really don't like gold on me :(

Cocochops · 02/09/2013 12:18

Lots so lovely links but must not buy anything til my style day. Sits on hands.

queen I am keen on trying project 333 would be interested to know what your 33 items are if you have the time or the inclination to post!

My style day also includes wardrobe analysis, and by the state of my wardrobe I reckon by the time we are finished I will be down to 33 items!

kerstina · 02/09/2013 12:35

I love silver jewellery . I have a lovely silver watch and silver ring with a red jewel its all I ever wear. No way am I going to start wearing gold as I don't like it.

Seri77 · 02/09/2013 13:17

I have a titanium watch and a beautiful carved silver bangle which I won't be parted from.

I prefer the less yellow tones of white gold (my rings are white gold without rhodium plating) so will see if I can get some earrings and then just continue to wear gold and silver together.

I see Kettlewell have their autumn range out on the website.

Spottycurtains · 02/09/2013 14:33

Hi so I've just had my colours done, was told I'm a vibrant autumn. I have seen reference to soft, deep autumn ect but not vibrant so am now confused.
I was there for hours and thought I'd understood, can anyone translate for me?

TerraNotSoFirma · 02/09/2013 15:26

I've just uploaded a pic to my profile, would you have a look and see if you think I'm a soft autumn.
I kind of think I am, can't afford to get colours done for a long while though.

TerraNotSoFirma · 02/09/2013 15:27

Oops, forgot a ? And forgot to say please.
Please? :)

QueenofWhatever · 02/09/2013 19:40

spottycurtains TheWombat and I are both vibrant autumns. It's the best sort of autumn to be Wink. My consultant told me to look for colours that looked expensive, and that really helped me. Also colours that are deeply saturated. This is my Pinterest board if that helps.

cocochops I'll try and post tomorrow about Project 333 (just going out to my MNet book club), but it has been a really positive experience. I too am sitting on my hands until I've had my style day.

I've been dong some online browsing and there are some good autumn colours out there. Lands End was surprisingly good Blush.

Spottycurtains · 02/09/2013 20:43

Fantastic, thanks, will work through all your lovely ideas for inspiration.

SuperConfused · 02/09/2013 21:49

Hello, can I join in? I got my colours done last week and am also a vibrant autumn. Still a bit confused by the whole thing, I went for a 1-to-1 but I actually don't think there was as much explaining around what it all means as there might have been with someone else there.

I'm currently starting to take stock of my wardrobe, my hair colour (eek) and have made a few careful purchases, including this t-shirt: www.marksandspencer.com/Limited-Edition-V-Neck-T-Shirt/dp/B00ECHH4D8?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_27&nodeId=547479031&sr=1-27&qid=1378154570&pf_rd_r=0EGBPV2VZD3S6MSGDRY4&pf_rd_m=A2BO0OYVBKIQJM&pf_rd_t=301&pf_rd_i=0&pf_rd_p=321381407&pf_rd_s=center-3

and this Cos jumper www.cosstores.com/Shop/Women/Knitwear/Jumpers_Tops/Oversized_jumper/10672115-6088513.1#c-6968702

Seeing your pinterest boards has been really helpful. Schmalex, I particularly loved yours: is that Oasis bird top recent? It looks wonderful but couldn't find it on their website.

Moving away from all the black in my wardrobe will be hard, as will binning the pinks and blues - I guess I normally dress like a winter. It doesn't help that my double star colours are the particularly sludgy ones Grin but I suppose I'll get used to it. Next big quest will be a winter coat - has anyone tried this one from hobbs? its very, very expensive but looks great:

www.hobbs.co.uk/product/display?productID=0213-3022-9037L00&productvarid=0213-3022-9037L00-PINE%20GREEN-18&refpage=coats-jackets/macs-coats

GeekInThePink · 02/09/2013 22:16

queenofwhatever love your board! I'm a vibrant autumn too...with green eyes...apparently that's unusual.

charitygirl · 02/09/2013 22:24

Super confused - that coat is beautiful but I'm not 100% convinced that's an autumn green - looks a bit bright, cold and 'winter' to me. Be interested to hear what others think. If I'm right then look on the bright side, you've saved £279!
