Continuing on from here

OP posts:
foxysocks · 22/08/2013 10:44

there is tons of amazing mcqueen on the outnet. I have been browsing it for so long I am still sitting here in yoga clothes, really must get my shit together and practice.

mcnally the boden leopard print flats are lovely.

foxysocks · 22/08/2013 10:44

oh and if it rains on saturday I am screwed for a nice outfit. my parka will be the only definite!

LinusDKD · 22/08/2013 11:06

I love this McQ dress foxy

I know tartan is dividing opinion on MNV at the moment but that is such a cool dress, especially the way it's styled.

Perfect for a winter wedding grumpy apart from the £££ Wink

marsha nice tartan McQ mini skirt as well...

BrandyAlexander · 22/08/2013 11:16

Still not sold LinusGrin

Dh has a maximum number on the house. unfortunately it is £25k below what the vendors say is their bottom number. sigh.

mignonette · 22/08/2013 11:57

Novice I hope your potential vendors capitulate on a bird in the hand...If I leave my job we may put our E London place on the market to free up some £££. The plan is to rent a place in either the Appalachians or the Deep South as a base to travel for 6 months to a year. DH gets his NHS pension in 18 months as he can retire at 55 and that'll be the logical time to fly away for an adventure. I only have the flat to stay in while I work in the West of the city and prefer to 'retire' to East Anglia.

My DD won a place on a prestigious Patissiere course and starts in January. Very proud as she is so talented. She is going to apply to do a stage at The Milk Bar in NYC which is this super fresh take on cakes and ice cream. She already has a BSc which she hasn't used (Community Development and Business) but hopefully the skills acquired as a student in London will stand her in stead when/if she wants to go it alone one day.

Have decided to buy her a bag as a well done gift. It'll be part Christmas present too so need to find a practical shape in a luxe design/fabric/colour. She loves satchel shapes and totes. She had one of those VW frame bags but far too prim/old lady for her. This is lovely for her but maybe a bit small? She would love this and it is emminently practical. Anya Hindmarch has a Gothy looking tote here that is again, practical. Would look good w/ tartan and plaid, leather, indigo and black denim.

Had a look at McQ on the Outnet and love this so have ordered it for Christmas from DH to me! Also loving this Fugly Marni tweed job.

Some Plaid by Joseph, Kors dress, Kors pants, a shirt by one of my favourite labels which would make great office/work wear. I have one of their skirts and the quality is incredible.

carrie74 · 22/08/2013 12:09

Hello All, have been lurking for while, but have managed to catch up.

Foxy so glad the boots are a winner and so versatile. They're v v lovely (was quite tempted by the brown ones), and amazing to find them on the Outnet in season.

Novice nail biting on the house, hope it all works out (wish we could see a link Grin)

Linus Those are seriously fierce flats, tremaze!!

One I really like that skull bracelet, and the hat you're wearing in your profile pic. As for black, I have no idea on colours TBH, so don't feel as though I can comment.

QueenC that jumpsuit is divine! Really gorgeous, and I'm not one for jumpsuits normally.

Mig I love those Spiga riding boots, don't think they'd be ageing? A classic IMO.

Off to browse the McQ stuff on the Outnet. I was lusting after this, but I think even with 50% off it's way, way beyond my budget!

In fact, everything is outside budget for now - just back from hols with a massive CC bill, kids insist on growing, so have been supplementing their autumn wardrobes and of course school shoes. Am also in denial at AW approaching...

Having said all that, I've been v quiet (and bored) at work the last couple of days, and have been thinking about upgrading my bog standard Gap padded coat for winter. I pounced on the idea of the Aigle Cuckmere, but then I've been informed on another forum I go on that it's not waterproof. BAWL. I'd convinced myself I HAD to have the coat, but I need something waterproof as well as super warm (and stylish, natch) for depths of winter. Foxy suggested her Barbour, so may look into that further, if I can get over my stiff-bodied tantrum at not being allowed the Aigle.

mignonette · 22/08/2013 12:40

Carrie That skirt is very special. And looks expensive. I like Barbour because I was very upset about the cruelty involved in the way feathers are obtained in some padded jackets. Apparently it is such a convoluted supply chain that even the reputable brands are having trouble obtaining ethical/cruelty free feathers and down. Would be interesting to know what Aigle is doing about it because their coats are lovely. Grin at 'stiff bodied tantrum'- oh to be able to do that from time to time!

BrandyAlexander · 22/08/2013 13:38

Oh Mig, I could do an about turn on tartan for that Kors dress!

Estate agent has just emailed me to confirm what vendors would accept but dh still thinking. Carrie, it's 6 beds, 4 receptions over 3 floors. Definitely no link!GrinGrin

mignonette · 22/08/2013 13:53

It is gorgeous isn't it? Novice Excellent news. Hopefully DH will be able to reconcile his concerns. Was it Grumpy who had a posh wedding to go to? I would suggest that dress for it. Super luxe but actually the dress is classic enough to be wearable for years. After all VW, Ralph Lauren and McQueen have sold some version or other of tartan for years now. Do you remember the McQueen 'Highland Rape' Bumsters? (Ugly name)....

carrie74 · 22/08/2013 14:00

Mig very special - £1k special, sadly (but thankfully seems to be sold out everywhere anyway). Exciting news on your DD, well done her! Love the AH tote.

Yes, have read about the issues in obtaining down too, and it's not great news. I'm afraid I've been a bit ostrich about it.

I remember the McQueen bumsters too, they must have been v uncomfortable to wear Grin

Novice lovely size, hope DH makes the right conclusion.

mignonette · 22/08/2013 14:31

I didn't want you to think i was sermonising at you Carrie. To be honest I think my head will explode one day trying to hold onto all the things I should be doing to register protest at inhumanity Sad. I don't wear fur, nor do I approve of it. If fur was such a wonderful insulator (oft heard argument for why some people/cultures wear it) why do mountaineers/hikers/explorers and other folks in freezing temperatures not wear it? I don't like Astrakhan either. I saw British Vogue did an article on fur this month and have horrid feeling that this may be a precursor to changing their policy on banning it on their pages. I know Anna Wintour loves a dead pelt on her back. Anyway, sermon over...

Those Bumsters heralded the whole low rise fashion IMO. That and the Tom Ford for Gucci velvet boot leg pants/satin unbuttoned shirt look that caused a total volte face in style and fashion here. I remember seeing footage of that show and how electrifying those images were, the sexy low slung pants that made legs look long and that long skinny torso.

mignonette · 22/08/2013 14:42

Wang sale here, here, tank, marl knit tube skirt, fittd tech suiting pants.

Shoe wise I like these Joannas and embossed leather Oxford Brogues.

RTW they have this Suspension Pencil skirt and tank dress and my favourite primrose yellow racer back dress. These single pleat Boyfriend pant look really versatile too. Loads more stuff on this site I love plus details of a NYC sample sale in case any of you are over there then.

carrie74 · 22/08/2013 14:50

YY, that Tom Ford Gucci thing was what first got me really interested in real fashion, I was at Uni, and would spend hours pouring over the pages in Vogue. I bought a pair of hipsters, and was one of the first in my social group. Then I got my belly button pierced for the full on effect Grin.

Unfortunately I'm not as ethical as I think I should be - I'm pretty good about the food I buy - free range chicken is de rigeur in our house - but I'm just not as conscious when it comes to fashion, and I know I should be better about it. Actually, not only is the Aigle down, but it also has fur attached to the hood, which does make me feel uncomfortable (but this bit is detachable, and I think when JL sold it, they didn't sell the fur attachment). I had to google Astrakhan, had never heard of it before, but recognise the look now. It does seem as though real fur is slowly becoming a bit more mainstream, which seems strange when fakes have come on so far, there really seems no need for real. My mother bought a fur coat in the US in the 80s - was the ultimate back then, but since moving to the UK in 1985, I think she's worn it on only a couple of occasions - not because her morals have changed but because of being worried about the reaction she'd get from others.

AmberNectarine · 22/08/2013 14:57

I nearly bought the Aigle last year, but but as soon as I saw it had real fur I dropped it. Sticking with my crappy polyester Zara duvet coat, because obvious petrochemical plants are totally ethical.

AmberNectarine · 22/08/2013 14:59

obviously

Sigh.

mignonette · 22/08/2013 15:00

T'is a minefield out there both literally and metaphorically Wink

shopafrolic · 22/08/2013 15:01

Hopefully PM

The tartan skinnies were a no go, I couldn't find a size that fit properly so I had to walk away. I did pick up a nice Rimmel fuchsia pink lip gloss that looks fab though. My sisters coming round tonight to do my nails so I shall be looking presentable at the very least by the time she's finished with me because I'm sure she'll do more than my nails! Currently looking for a decent hairdresser to get my hair cut into something manageable now I've grown the bob out.

shopafrolic · 22/08/2013 18:06

Foxy if it rains on Sat I'm screwed - I'll be wearing my North Face waterproof and that's as good as it gets.

OP posts:
mignonette · 22/08/2013 18:13

Charlotte Olympia shoes for children here. Love the Insy Wincey slipper shoes here. Wonder what celebrities child will be seen in these first? She has done child size Kitty shoes too at a 'cheaper' price so those fo you with tiny feet can wear these instead or buy these gold glitter Kitty flats. My choice? These. Elegant.

mignonette · 22/08/2013 18:21

One I would recommend you hunt for tartan pants from a store that caters for women that are maybe in the 25-35+ age group. The reason for this is that the cut is often different, TopShop/New Look/ Primark tend to cut to a hipless teenage template and also skimp on their sizing. Obviously getting ten pairs of pants from a bolt of cloth as opposed to eight means more profit. Also other stores are more likely to cut a proper straight leg rather than super skinny or pegged leg where they come in too tight at the calves. Might be worth saving for a pair from a store that charges a little more but make better cut pants?

Did you see these One?

OneLittleLady · 22/08/2013 18:34

Cinderella WILL go to the ball or in this case OneLittleLady shall be going to the October MU. DP has said he will pay for my train ticket as I deserve a nice day out Smile

I had forgotten about River Island mig we have a store in town so I will go and check to see if they have them, RI stuff tends to fit me quite well despite their weird sizing

Drywhiteplease · 22/08/2013 18:40

Oh Mig I was going to buy the red clutch like your yellow. Had entered my address, about to enter card details.....then a little sensible voice reminded me of the huge A/W wish list......damn you sensible voice!!!!!

Evening all!

LinusDKD · 22/08/2013 19:27

Phew, DS was a bit of a handful today and is still not asleep.

Wine is badly needed.

one good news about the MU! Maybe one day I can join you as well.

shop love that website for boys.

novice sounds like a great house, I hope DH agrees to the price the owners are asking.

mig those CO shoes for girls are supercute but so £££.

I don't think I would ever buy a proper fur coat as it's not my style but as I eat meat and wear leather shoes and handbags I don't think I can object too much to fur.

I really like the look of that Aigle Cuckmere and I am in the market for a new winter coat but I will have to try it on IRL.

QueenCadbury · 22/08/2013 19:34

Just popping in briefly and then am going to ignore you for the rest of the night as I finally got round to starting my book at lunchtime! Have had a lovely day and we bought body boards which the kids and me and dh love. Really enjoying just chilling on the beach and in the sea. Also love how blonde my hair is getting (I'm natural blonde but it gets lovely white blonde bits in the sun). Can't believe tomorrow is our last day, I could easily stay another week. So different from our holiday last summer when we went a home a day early as it was raining so much!

novice house sounds divine. Plenty of bedrooms for non London voguettes to stay Grin. Hope it works out. I hate the stress of negotiating.

mig that sounds sooo exciting for your dd. you'll be ble to visit in NYC. Haven't opened all the links but love the AH bag. Retirement plans sound good too.

I'm useless at the ethics of things as I genuinely don't have a clue. I'm not entirely convinced though that anything is entirely ethical.

I'd really love another winter coat (Barbour possibly) but as I have my north face it's really difficult to justify. I will see how much I spend on the birthday outfit and see if I can persuade dh to buy a coat too!
