HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Love love love that cream cashmere MV jumper Gilly, have bookmarked for future if it doesn't sell out super fast. While I'm hanging around looking and not buying I think I'll book a style day too. I am going to guess I'm classic-something, everything I've read online re. body shape, personality, need to have good quality fabrics etc. has lead me towards this as a starting point. But I am really drawn towards slightly offbeat prints or shapes, sometimes bold florals and sparkly things eg. necklaces, shoes with some kind of diamante, metallic thread in clothes. I found the colours time a real treat and felt great afterwards- how much is style day?

Gillybobs · 19/08/2013 14:04

Jumping you sound very much like me, I like a touch of glamour with my classic shapes..Hmm.. do you have curves?

jumpinghoops · 19/08/2013 15:47

Gilly, I do. I'm a fairly tall (5'8) pear shape normally, sadly my bust is nothing to write home about but the actual lines of my frame are v curvy if that makes sense. One slight concern I have re. style day is if the consultant determined I had a frame and/or personality type that should avoid the sparkle/jazz bits. The main frustration I have in dressing myself is tending to opt for quite plain outfits overall that when I wear them feel a bit dull. My shape at the moment is quite different from its normal proportions (partly due to breast feeding) as well as bigger overall. Will they really see past that or do you think I should wait until its settled down and is more 'normal'?

Gillybobs · 19/08/2013 15:52

Honestly, they'll see past it. Fear ye not.

Gillybobs · 19/08/2013 19:29

Oh and one thing I've learned from all the friends who've had the style day, if you are drawn to sparkle, it generally means you'll end up with sparkle on our list. Lots of it is about getting "permission" to dress how your gut tells you. If you often feel too plain in an outfit the chances are you'll be one of the style types who need embellishment or detail to feel properly dressed. Understanding why that is just helps you chill out , go with the flow and really shop much more efficiently

marzipananimal · 19/08/2013 19:49

I see your point gillybobs but I think I'd be too frustrated that I couldnt go out and buy things straight after the style day. Plus it would be tricky with an ebf baby. I am tempted though!

Mumelie · 19/08/2013 20:57

Gillybobs I couldn't have put it better myself - permission to wear those items. Thats exactly how I felt after my style day!

BeginnerSAHM · 19/08/2013 21:05

By the way, I have ordered those Ash spiral boots in camel (2 sizes, just in case)... I also ordered these - just in case I prefer them! Only keeping one though.

Really want to do the style day nowShock!

I think I might have to partake of style day. My consultant contacted me mercilessly to do it just after I had had my colours done. My head was buzzing so much with the colours thing I decided to wait. There's only so much info my head can take in a short time Grin

I think I am a classic something. I have a typical hourglass figure and suit structured clothes but I need something to soften the classic otherwise it can be a bit too 'hard'.

My shopping expedition on Saturday didn't go quite to plan because a) I forgot my swatch wallet b) my back was killing me, and c) the shops were 90% full of end of season tat.

I did buy a lovely kerry green jumper in Zara. Not great quality but OK. I found a lemon chiffon blouse in Primark and a lovely green scarf in H&M. I tried This in green. It definitely worked its spring magic and fit like a glove but I'm not sure I have the confidence to wear it so didn't buy.

This is lovely but I have several scarves in that colour and wanted the green one, which of course they didn't have so will order online.

The BB Apricot blusher is lovely. It's hard to believe that something so lurid in the pot can look so natural on. Bought the Mac See Sheer too.

I've realised what I am sadly lacking is accessories. I need some really nice belts/necklaces/ bangles to help pull things together a bit more. Any recommendations ladies?

jumpinghoops · 19/08/2013 21:41

OK, will book an appt for a couple of months when I know I'll be able to leave my LO for the day. Thank you for explaining all the ins and outs to me, I think if I don't do it I'll prob just end up buying more of the same (stripy tops) that I already have and continuing to be frustrated every time I get dressed!

Gillybobs · 19/08/2013 21:58

glasses I'm romantic classic which means classic shapes softened with lux fabrics, drapey necklines, feminine touches of understated bling.

I love my accessories (probably because I wear a lot of neutral clothes) and have found boden and banana republic good for belts, zara and Dorothy Perkins for necklaces, scarves I've bought everywhere from zara and warehouse to Lola rose and tk maxx

Joycey29 · 20/08/2013 08:07

My CMB consultant was fab and I love the way she has turned my colour style round.
The more you guys chat the more I'm intrigued - but still broke!!
Has anyone done a CMB style session?
How much does it cost?
Eeeek - I need a second job to fund this thread!
Thanks Beginner! Wink

BeginnerSAHM · 20/08/2013 08:23

Hi Joycey! I know... Funding is an issue... Nope, not done a CMB style session although had colours done by CMB as well as HoC Blush. There are slightly different style types with CMB - there is something called 'city chic' which is what I'd like to be! I am definitely not at the moment.

I'm more 'slummy-mummy-who-cares-what-I-look-like-as-its-the-school-holidays-and-i'm-not-working-for-the-first-time-ever'....

Right, off to have shower and wash AND dry hair in an attempt to make more effort. Children safely occupied by screen. Ah, wonderful parenting!

Sorry, i digress... Not sure how much a style session is Joycey - maybe email your CMB person? Sounds a v similar thing to the HoC session.

Just thought I'd post for anyone trying to get into wearing scarves. It shows tonnes of different ways to tie them which I found really helpful as I'm useless at that kind of thing

oops!

BeginnerSAHM · 20/08/2013 22:19

Ha ha marzipanimal... I've seen that before but forgot about it and only ever do scarves one way - European something I think.... Must try harder with scarves! Especially as i seem to be bright-clothes-phobic Wink. Thank you!

My mint velvet jumpers came today. Both delicious. They grey spotty one is probably not that springy but the blue dots have subtle sequins on them so that's a no brainer for me Grin

Joycey29 · 20/08/2013 22:30

Thanks marzipan - that's just what I need!

BeginnerSAHM · 20/08/2013 23:11

Oooh, am jealous Gillybobs! Glad they are both so nice. (Am going to get the one with silk back and buttons....)

Gillybobs · 21/08/2013 11:41

Good for you. Its very very neutral so will need a coloured necklace or summat. I am a bit worried about how it might wash but its too nice to resist.

wools · 21/08/2013 12:51

Hi everyone. Been away for a few days so will have a good catch up on the thread a bit later. Just popped on to say the Ash boots have arrived and are really lovely - so pleased. Also, cashmere jumper and silk shirt from Uniqlo here too - have yet to try on but both look lovely. Also have ordered this www.meandem.com/sale/summer-sale/cap-sleeve-ruched-dress/products_id/1196/cPath/876_923_1004 in navy. I have gone a little bit navy mad at the moment.

BeginnerSAHM · 21/08/2013 13:45

Ok - Ash boots have arrived. Love them but how do you tuck skinny jeans in? I'm going to have to wear skin tight leggings.... They are so low! I got these camel ash spiral and these [[

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 21/08/2013 13:46

Sorry - and these ash nevada. Which do people prefer? I think I slightly prefer the Nevada, weirdly, as didn't think I was v edgy but am liking the studs... Thoughts?? Grin
