HoC Spring thread....

BeginnerSAHM · 12/08/2013 19:00

This is a thread for all of us who have had their colours done' by House of Colour and are a Spring. (And 'believe' in it...Wink.) Or, by CMB and are 'clear and warm'. Think a few other CMB catergories might be spring too - 'soft and warm' maybe/' warm and clear' (different from 'clear and warm' because of the order of priorities/dominance...)?

Feel free to ask any Spring-related fashion/make-up/style questions on this thread.... (I won't know the answer but lots of people on these boards will!)

So, I'll start with a 'spring' question.... I never wear lipstick. I occasionally wear neutral-ish lipgloss on a night out but never reapply during the evening so it's always gone within the first 20 mins. I know as a spring, I 'should'. Can anybody suggest a Revlon lip butter that is springish? I gather they are more sheer than full lipstick so might be a good way for me to start trying lip colour out! Thank you

Love both of those Gillybobs. Both very good neutrals and you can always accessorise with a brighter spring colour should you wish.

I've just ordered these. www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/078065
www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/078850

Both in navy blue which isn't terribly exciting but I think I'll get a lot of wear out of.

BeginnerSAHM · 17/08/2013 13:00

What can I say Gillybobs, you have excellent taste. That second jumper is on my mint velvet 'wish list'. (Along with a sparkly beige/gold knit and some black leggings...)

I think I am a spring, self diagnosed obviously.
As an experiment I decided to wear spring clothes and make up all week just to see what happened. I didn't tell anyone.
It has been amazing. The number of compliments I have had this week has been ridiculous. People have complimented my hair, my skin, jewellery, clothes and make up.
The only thing I've changed about my make up is the colour, I've not changed the way I apply it or how much I wear. I usually wear black eyeliner and mascara with a nude lip. I've changed to brown eyeliner and mascara with a bright spring lip. It's taking some getting used to even though people say it looks good.
I think I might get diagnosed properly.

Aquelven · 17/08/2013 15:37

The first link isn't coming up, wools, but the shirt is great. I have a navy silk shirt, pretty ancient from years & years ago, & it's one of the most useful things I own.

Mrsharry, you could well be right, but if you can afford it I think it's still well worth getting done properly. The consultant doesn't just give you the swatches, she goes through each one thoroughly telling how much of that colour will work best for you & how that interprets into whether it's best for just accessories, suits, big items like coats etc so you know just which are your very best colours out of the swatches. It's very individual & we're all different Smile

mrsharrystyles · 17/08/2013 15:41

Yes I agree. I will book am appt ASAP.

wools · 17/08/2013 16:18

That's strange Aquelven ...link's working for me. It's the navy v-neck cashmere jumper. Glad to hear you've found a navy silk shirt useful, I think I will too.

I've just had a wardrobe sort through, mainly to check I'm across what's in it. Sometimes I forget I own certain items - does anybody else do that?

Aquelven · 17/08/2013 17:18

Oh yes Blush
I'm ashamed of what's lurking in mine, much still with tags on Hmm

The link is working now, great price for cashmere.

marzipananimal · 17/08/2013 20:39

Ooh, glad I found this thread. I'm a bright spring I think- warm, light, clear and bright. I'm thinking about doing the style day sometime, but not for a while as I have a 5 week old baby and want to wait til I've lost the weight and boobs are back to normal size. I'm rubbish with make up and hardly ever wear it but I have max factor pink brandy lipstick which does look good, I just feel a bit self conscious wearing it! How do you decide which lipstick to wear with which clothes? Can you wear pink lipstick with red clothes for eg?

Gillybobs · 18/08/2013 11:21

marzipan there's no need to delay the style day until losing weight, honestly. They see beyond your current weight to your actual frame type iykwim. And it's also largely based on personality too. If anything I'd say it is just a great post baby boost and once you have all the info you can start browsing for clothes ideas for when you are ready to shop?

I'm a romantic classic so like to sort of match my lippy to my clothes, so I'd wear a coral red with red clothes, and a coral pink with pink (love my corals : ). I think that's another thing that depends on your style type though?

Gillybobs · 18/08/2013 20:10

In a way, I found the style day even more helpful than colours, in terms of what to buy. Have others in the thread had style day, I know season has

Joycey29 · 18/08/2013 22:11

Not me, fairly happy at the moment with what I wear now I have the right colours.
May consider it when I m rich!

BeginnerSAHM · 18/08/2013 22:32

Gah - I replied but it's not showing... Short answer is, no but I might do soon. I can just about take a woman 15 yrs older than me with a very different look (that I think is a bit dated) telling me what colours suit me but not sure I want her to define my style... I sound very mean! Might go back to my CMB person in another part of the country as I like her style more. Or might just not do it at all!

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 18/08/2013 23:21

I hear ya. I almost didn't do it for just that reason. Then I had a lightbulb moment...it's not about fashion at all...it doesn't matter one bit if the consultant looks like hyacinth bouquet....it's totally irrelevant....the info you glean is about your body shape, why you suit the shapes/level of detail etc that you do and why other clothes are great on the hanger but a disaster on you. Then you go off and interpret trends your way and avoid wasting fortunes on things that will never look right on your body or make you feel confident.

Aquelven · 19/08/2013 07:14

No, I haven't but would like to & intend to when I can. But, as I've already mentioned, stuck at the moment on crutches & unable to drive as I had a foot operation eleven days ago.
Only had my colours done in July & hadn't heard if the style day till the consultant mentioned it. I am intrigued by it, all the different names & what they mean style wise.

I'm longing to get really going, sorting my wardrobe & buying new things but hampered at the moment.

BeginnerSAHM · 19/08/2013 07:18

I see the logic gillybobs! I think I know what suits me, bodyshape-wise. Am a slim-ish pear (nice!) with size 6/8 top and 8/10 bottom so know not to wear fussy prints/brighter colours on my bottom half, tops that stop at my saddlebags etc! But the style 'type' thing is interesting. It might explain why I feel odd in v bright tops, small girly floral prints, Boden-esque stuff, etc. I am definitely not a dramatic.

Hmmmmm. It's quite a bit of money but I think I might....

OP posts:
Aquelven · 19/08/2013 07:33

How much is governed by personality & how much by body shape?
Do you fill in a questionnaire ? I don't see how they can judge your personality in just one day.

Gillybobs · 19/08/2013 08:25

I'm not sure how it's weighted but yes you do fill in a questionnaire and gosh does it make you think..takes a while to complete and involves lots of discussion. Also there is tonnes of body analysis, measurements, proportions, shapes etc

And yes yes to knowing why certain prints and styles are just wrong wrong wrong, no matter how fashion they are. I knew my body and style well too, having always been a clothesaholic but I still learned loads

Mumelie · 19/08/2013 08:26

I did the style day about a few weeks after having my colours done. I found it a revelation really! We all think we know what suits us to some degree but going through the process of defining what style personality I was made me realise why some things will always look rubbish on me. I'm a Classic Inguene (sp?) and cannot do casual to save my life! I now feel ok with this instead of attempting it and thinking I look awful.

It was as interesting as having colours done and I would recommend it if you can afford it.

Gillybobs · 19/08/2013 08:49

Oh I know two classic ingenues, what a gorgeous duke type, very feminine and serene

Gillybobs · 19/08/2013 09:33

Sorry, style type , not duke type : )

BeginnerSAHM · 19/08/2013 09:57

Ok! I'm convinced.... Am betting I'll be a combination of classic and natural (possibly classic and ingenue - if I'm lucky Wink). Will look into diary and setting up an appt.

I seem to have started an expensive thread....Grin.

OP posts:
BeginnerSAHM · 19/08/2013 09:57

p.s. Why are there no autumn and summer threads??

OP posts:
Gillybobs · 19/08/2013 10:11

There was a summer thread recently, I'm sure

Yes this thread is definitely going to be extensive...

RipMacWinkle · 19/08/2013 10:32

waves to Gillybobs

I waited quite some time after my colours (understatement, think it was about 5 years) before having my style done this year.

I don't exactly regret going so late, I wasn't in the right place to understand what I was told - was still getting my head round the Spring bit to be honest. But now, it's all slotted into place.

I'm a natural gamine. Defo explains my aversion to getting all glammed up (nat innit?). Where some people on here would say they're never knowingly underdressed, I'd die off if I felt overdressed.

Find it fascinating that what looks absolutely amazing on someone else e.g. classic Gillybobs, will just look like I've put on my mum's clothes.

Once you have your head round that, you realised you have to dress for your shape and personality and make trends work for you and you have to just drop those that will do you no favours.

In short, loved it.

Gillybobs · 19/08/2013 10:53

Welcome rip about time too
