Could be the grade boundaries were unbelievably high and all were marked down( grr) - I think it smacks of this.
Friends DS can't resit till next June, alongside his A'levelsSad

Cremolafoam · 21/08/2013 20:21

Feel dreadful for them all frankly. Much weeping in the school foyer last Thursday morning. ( Not just me)
Dd is just back from Switzerland tonight to face the music. Incredibly they are back at school next Tuesday here.Wink
Well just have to help her the best we can.

MrsSchadenfreude · 21/08/2013 20:58

Ugh, poor you and DD, Crem. I agree the system is crap, but hopefully it will be a mistake.

I cocked up my A levels royally and my mother said "What am I going to do now? I've told everyone you're going to university."

I left home shortly after that...

bigTillyMint · 21/08/2013 21:03

There's got to be something that can be done. So unfair for them allAngry

Aw thanks gang. At least there's redress . We'll get the paper and take it from there.

At least she's not locked up in Peru for drug traffickingConfused

OP posts:
CointreauVersial · 21/08/2013 22:10

Oh Crem, how devastating. That's a massive drop versus her projected grade. Hope she stays positive whatever the eventual outcome.

Ruby - when are you actually moving? I can't believe it has come around so quickly and apparently without major hitches you lucky blighter

Today was DD2's birthday (10! I now have all three into double digits, so am feeling my age). The whole day was tightly scripted by her ladyship - presents at 7am, followed by pains au chocolat and hot milk for breakfast, off to holiday club with pesto pasta lunch and birthday cake, pancakes for tea (1 savoury, 2 sweet), topping off the day with a relaxing bath with a pillow, music and a bowl of wine-gums. Grin It was a quiet one, though; DH is in Poland and DD1 is still in Cornwall, camping with friends.

Cremolafoam · 21/08/2013 22:36

Cv I am in love with your dds birthday! ( ESP. 1 savoury and 2 sweet) plus bath with pillow. She is a true Leo ( if you go in for that kind of thingGrin) sounds like heaven.

Again thanks for kind words about dd. had a brief word this evening about the whole shenanigans and she remembers coming out of the exam thinking she aced it and totally loved the paper as she had something prepared for every question . Confused
She is pretty stoic about the sitch tbh.

Ruby and mrs S - thinking of you both and your mammoth moves.
Hope all goes as smoothly as it can .Smile

We have been mucking out DD1's room. It has not been a pleasant experience.

I was predicted AAB in my A levels. I got a C, a D and a fail. I resat them in the November and got the same again! It's odd, Crem, as I think you tend to know if you've done well in an exam or not. Hopefully the remark/reexamination of the paper will come good. Fingers crossed and thumbs held.

Blackduck · 22/08/2013 10:32

A* to a D? Really? No, does not compute unless she wrote absolutely nothing in the exam.... particulary as she feels she did well.

MrsS did you know you had cocked up?

Yes, good luck movers - and Ruby I am Envy as you may recall how long it took us to sell and move (crepeys all run for cover thinking 'please don't let her get started on that') In house news - I have my window seat and can't wait to see it tonight (was put in yesterday and I was out last night...)

motherinferior · 22/08/2013 10:39

In S&B news I can recommend the dirt cheap Superdrug wash-in colours. The Copper one (not the bright crimson!) has prolonged my colour admirably in the absence of my usual array of hair products. Can recommend especially for holidays as they come in little bottles.

bigTillyMint · 22/08/2013 11:57

Talking of hair colours, DD took 4 lemons on holiday with us and squeezed them in her (and mates) hair - it is definitely much blonder! Natural and cheapSmile

Am having a teen-free coffee in Borough Market (put them on train to PIL) Bliss!

Cremolafoam · 22/08/2013 13:58

Oh BTM I remember boiling up chamomile flowers to rinse through my mousy blonde hair as a teenager .
Must have been recommended in Jackie magazine or somewhereGrin

Borough market is on my to do list for londinium.possibly eat my way round as a hangover cure...

herbaceous · 22/08/2013 17:12

Stop stop BTM - I'm doing my first fast day for weeks, and you're not helping!

This is also the first time I've been on my own for three weeks. I was looking foward to it, but have in fact found it rather dull...

In a mad mother moment I've written to DS's new school to helpfully point out that we've had no welcome pack, no info, nothing. That was 10 days ago, and I haven't had a reply. Sigh.

And then I've got A level results to look forward to! What joy, Crem! I do hope you get it all sorted out. It all seems so unfair.

bigTillyMint · 22/08/2013 17:44

Herbs, there'll be no-one at the school ATM - maybe in the next week or so some teachers might go in to get rooms ready, but I'm not sure anyone will be answering mail.
It is crap that they haven't sent out any info.

I know, I'm already shitting it that DD will be disappointed with resultsSad DS is more resilient (and has lesser expectations!)

herbaceous · 22/08/2013 18:13

I'd been hoping/thinking that the new head would be popping in to sort stuff out. It would seem not.

MrsSchadenfreude · 22/08/2013 19:41

I am about to have a nervous breakdown or spontaneously combust. DD1's school have blithely informed us that she will be going on an outward bound trip from 2-6 September.

She has an orthodontist appointment here on the 6th, which I am now going to have to grovel to Frosty Chops the receptionist to change, and see if DD1 can come out on the 8th instead for it. If she says no, I don't know what we will do. Do any of you have orthodontists in London? I am guessing we have to go private for this as a) she is halfway through (more than half way) her treatment and b) there is no NHS dentist taking new patients closer than 6 miles away according to the NHS website, and then we would need to wait for referral to an orthodontist.

And today AB sent me an email reminding me that I needed to write up the action plan from our awayday in November. This is not my job - but the people who were supposed to do it haven't (and won't), so it has suddenly become my job. Given that it is now 10 months since the awayday, I want to ask "what is the point?" but can't face another lecture...

Cremolafoam · 22/08/2013 19:47

Mrs s I'd get a private dentist consultation first and then he should refer you to an orthodontist . If dd is under 18 she ought to get free ortho I think .www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Orthodontics/Pages/Introduction.aspx

OP posts:
MrsSchadenfreude · 22/08/2013 20:06

Yes, she should get free ortho, but it is getting it sorted that is worrying me. School have been remarkably unhelpful - surely there must be some children there who go to a local orthodontist?

Cremolafoam · 22/08/2013 21:22

Usual to start the brace wearing thing at approx 13 here I think mrs s, so you would have thought so .
Seems to be an orthodontic dept at Kings college hospital.
MI must know surely.

In other shock news I have FINALLY got a date for my op. queue some light weeping and mid-life crisis style thoughts. It is the Friday flowing the meet up .( phew)

Sweetie, yes, there is a nice ortho dept at Kings (I've used it). You should definitely be able to transfer. And/or there is a dental practice in West Dulwich which is a mix of private and NHS which DD1 was referred to for her braces (and we also use an NHS dentist which you can get to for regular checkups). Tell AB you are doing the write up and then just leave it. Or dash it off and put it in his in tray under a pile of stuff . He's only doing this to wind you up, so don't give him the satisfaction of seeing that it's bothering you. It was only when I actually left my last job - and I genuinely thought I'd be expected to go back to my desk after my farewell drinks - that I realised how little this stuff actually matters
