I'm not very good at evening clothes. I am more of a smart casual. I always fidget when trying to look glamorous maybe because I am congenitally messy. I do not have the sleek hair that stays in style. I envy that soignee look, I really do. I will never have that Eva Peron chignon.

I have some glamorous dresses but rarely wear them. i am more comfortable in a bejewelled, sequinned mid thigh skirt/dress, tights and a major shoe with a blazer over it. Or trousers/heels/slingbacks, unusual detailed top half. I am not conservative with colour though. i do go for it there.

yes those yellow trousers are really useful. I have several pairs and they do not flick out at the ankle like the picture suggests. They are straighter legged on me.

Drywhiteplease · 09/08/2013 11:37

Foxy you're brave....give them each a number 1-7 and every so often call "halt! Roll call!" Then they have to call out their numbers , you'll easily spot if ones gone AWAL(works, unless you have a smart arse who calls out 24!!!) guess what I do for a living?
QueenC nice bag. boots I wear this sort of thing with dresses/skirts and black opaques, makes my legs look longer.
Mig I love it when Matalan gets mentioned here, shows we aren't shoppist. Your outfit sounds lovely. Can I come round for some of that ice cream?
Portia I looked at J Crew bling while in US earlier this year. V expensive and poor quality in IMO, but looks nice in photos.

I slobbing today.....have been wearing gym kit ( not going until later) because its so comfy and I can't be bothered to change .looked particularly fetching with these to peg washing scared the gardener ..... Always the glamour puss me Grin

Drywhiteplease · 09/08/2013 11:40

Mig I'm in the '66 club too although wont admit it often . Worked out that I was at uni when Amber was born Sad...... I do think, though, that I stopped maturing at about the same time.must grow up, must be more sensible

QueenCadbury · 09/08/2013 11:42

mig I've held you in such high respect but not sure I can continue to do so if you watch big brother Grin

Curry was lovely thanks. I hadn't had one for ages. Feeling very bloated today though!

I'm wearing rolled up jeans, grey tee and lapis blue cardi. It's the Bristol balloon fiesta this weekend and the red arrows are coming this afternoon o taking the dc to see that. Tomorrow, friends are coming to stay and we'll watch the balloons whilst having a picnic and prosecco.

liberty a paler grey would be nice. If anyone has grazia did you see the dove grey radley in the top charts? Lovely pale colour but not online yet but am excitedly waiting. Trouble is I also want green, pink and blue Hmm. How many bags can I justify even if it is my 40th?

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2013 12:08

I forgot to put H&M next to bikini top on last post. You know to spread out the labels.

What make up do you all wear on the beach? If any.

Negroni · 09/08/2013 12:11

Oh am feeling a bit Blush on reading about all your lovely outfits. I am so un-together. All my day to day outfits consist of skinny jeans, non descript t shirt in say navy, short or long trench jacket in navy or cream or bright colour and converse/ankle boot/ballet flat with nice bag. Evening the same but with patterned or embellished top plus heels or high boots. Tend to always wear some jewellery and bag I like to make it all look ok.

Am ok at make up, jewellery, bags and shoes but have no idea how to put an outfit of clothes together. How do you all do it? Are you inspired or do you use magazines for inspiration? Am in awe as seem to be missing this "putting it all together" gene.

Negroni · 09/08/2013 12:15

Queen I think you you can justify any number of bags for your 40th! They are investment pieces for the next decade. There, you have my blessing to go forth and shop.

I have that grazia so will take a look when have wrestled DD2 to sleep.

QueenCadbury · 09/08/2013 12:35

negroni I like your thinking. I don't have a putting together gene either. I've learnt from her and Pinterest and having my colours done as it gave me confidence to put colours together. I rarely but magazines anymore. I only get grazia as dh is too lazy to cancel the subscription but tbh I don't get a lot out of it anymore.

libertychick · 09/08/2013 13:36

Negroni I used to feel like that and then I realised it was all in my head. Your basic outfits sound fine, it sounds more like you need to feel a little more confident about them and learn to 'own' your style. Pin is great for helping with this. Just pin loads of looks you like and look for the common themes. I realised that I pin lots of similiar looks that I can copy with clothes I have and that small details like wearing different shoes or a scarf can make the difference. Feeling confident about grooming helps too - you can be very simply dressed but if you have hair looking good, make up that suits, nice shoes, manicured nails it can transform the look.

Also quality helps - well fitting clothes in good condition look better. And decent quality (doesn't have to be expensive or designer) handbag.

And have some try on sessions and try your cothes in different ways - this is going to sound barking mad but recently I realised that I always wear my cardigans buttoned up but wearing them open with a top underneath suits me and creates many more outfits - I am slightly Blush admitting that as it makes me sound so unimaginative!

Negroni · 09/08/2013 13:41

Who is the 'her' you learnt from. Oh,you mean here, I think. I had better stay on mumsnet then. Partly as am losing weight I don't want to invest that much in clothes but is a bit of a dodgy argument as am not so overweight that shape has changed, will suit the same shape clothes when thinner, iyswim. And am still buying jeans so could just buy different stuff.

After reading about it on here am sorely tempted to get colours done. I think I know what suits me but would be handy just not to bother looking at stuff that doesn't. And if someone with authority just said well don't bother with black get navy then it would save a lot of time. And I might discover colours that are a revelation. For example recently started wearing pearls - mainly earrings - as they totally light up my face. Now beginning to think a bit more cream or white near the face would do me good but wouldn't mind someone else sorting out which shade etc.

QueenCadbury · 09/08/2013 14:08

Yes I meant here! The colours thing was great for me as I knew blues/greens worked and knew yellows/browns didn't but was a bit stuck in between. As a pale blonde I always thought I should do muted colours and didn't wear anything too bright. Now one of my favourite things is my cerise cardigan.

Like liberty I also love having trying on sessions. It totally bemuses dh!

QueenC I get a lot out of your Grazia subscription!
Marsha beach make up - Clinique CC cream factor 30 with coverage. By Terry blush, brown mascara and Clinique chubby stick for lips as doesn't melt in my beach bag!
Just back from lunch, couldn't wear dress due to miserable weather so CE skinnies, grey tee and blazer and snakeskin flats. DULL (me not the food!)
Two days till Operation Stay Sane At Inlaws begins. I hope you're all ready to play your part? :)

libertychick · 09/08/2013 15:09

Marsha beach make up = none! Just sunscreen, nivea factor 30 balm on lips.

libertychick · 09/08/2013 15:11

Happy to help with in law survival Shop. May I suggest starting with some mild anesthetic in the form of Wine?

shopafrolic · 09/08/2013 15:18

I'll probably be drunk posting all week Liberty!

Annianni · 09/08/2013 15:45

Oh Shop I would go insane at my inlaws :o
Are you taking wine with you?

Hello to the new people...

Who asked about favourite outfits?

My daytime look at the moment is Hudson baby bootcuts, or Goldsign Diva's rolled up... a slouchy tee with black metallic Hav's or Silver Gigi's

An evening one would be Hudson Gia skinnys with Whistles silk blouse, Gwyneth's or heels.

QueenC I have Grazia, and that grey Radley is lovely (and i'm normally a dog hater)

Also, what do you think of the brand Essentiel Antwerp? I love the blue bag in Grazia.

And I missed the hot men discussion the other night, but thought i'd share Jackie Collins' hot men pins :o

In other news...
I got this knitted cape for 39-99 yesterday.
It's merino and lovely and soft.
I can see myself wearing it a lot in Autumn.

My next purchase is going to be a sander, to do ds2's bedroom floor.
So i'll not be online much probably in the next few days.
Dh thinks i'm bonkers wanting to do it, and would rather I bought a carpet.
He was the same when I suggested a black stained bathroom floor though, and now he loves it.

More cowboy wallpaper was purchased last weekend.
My name is Anni... and I shop in Cath Kidston...

Wallpaper only though :o

Oh... and Victorias Secret has opened near me, but the queue had about 50 women in it... I refuse to queue to look at bra's, so i'll wait till all the fuss has died down.
Or for the week after next, when dh is off work and may be inclined to buy me something from there Wink

Annianni · 09/08/2013 15:46

Marsha beach make up for me is mascara and vaseline rosy lips.

libertychick · 09/08/2013 16:05

Anni can you pm me a link to wear you bought that cape? I cannot find it on the BR website and I love it!

Annianni · 09/08/2013 16:09

I couldn't find it on there either Liberty.
It's the merino sweater cape. But I only found it on the us site.

They are on the sale rail, if you're near a BR shop?
Manchester had a rail full of them.
They were reduced to 49-99 but were giving cards out at the door, with 20% off including sale.

libertychick · 09/08/2013 16:17

Brent Cross is nearest to me -

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2013 16:37

Good luck Shop!

Liberty hmm you'll have to sneak out Grin

Anni the floorboards and wallpaper sound lovely.

Thanks re make up. I put on just mascara and lip balm yesterday pool side and wondered about it all at great length ha.

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2013 16:40

Negroni hanging out here does help, everyone's style starts to emerge, even if it is simple, classic or more directional. Or anything else.

shopafrolic · 09/08/2013 16:49

I'm obviously overdone on the beach Grin
Anni my DS has the cowboy duvet set and a bag for the beach - both from outlet store. The only CK I now own having sold all my post baby crazy CK shopping on EBay :)
I am taking wine to the inlaws. It's not that they're that bad - it's just always massively full on and DS gets so tired (and I'm not good when people are in my face 24/7)

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2013 16:52

Your beach make up sounds lovely Shop, in fact sounds like a good list for 'what to wear on the beach'. I expect to see it in the ST Style shortly.
