Kooples skirt looks awesome Mig.

Foxy I do that, and sometimes kind of breathe a sigh of relief when it eventually sells out and I can stop torturing myself!

One hope you get some answers at the dietician. I find the amount I can eat varies enormously depending on my activity levels, more than it ought according to received wisdom on calories in/out. I am a 'high responder' to exercise (I get fit very quickly) but if I stop moving I lose muscle mass v v quickly and therefore have to really drop my intake not to gain weight. I put on a stone in 6 months when we moved, despite eating basically nothing, purely because I'd gone from being a SAHM (eating cake daily) to sitting at a desk (eating salad). V tiresome.

I pulled out my suede marant-alike ankle boots from last year for a casual work meeting today, as it was a wee bit chillier than it has been, had forgotten how much I like them. Must find a new pair for this winter, as they are getting a bit tatty now.

It's very frustrating hopefully I eat tiny, tiny amounts, definitely well under the recommened daily calorie intake but I still keep piling the weight on. MY CPN has suggested that I might actually have an eating disorder as my attitude to food is somewhat......disordered but I'm not dwelling on it, I'll see what the experts say before I do or think anything of it.

I meant to ask this a while ago - but how do you know if you have a long body / short legs or short body / long legs?!

Report
LinusDKD · 13/08/2013 12:41

Some lovely and not too ££££ handbags from this English brand

Village England

Oh and Anais Anais was my first perfume bought by DM to celebrate me 'becoming a woman'.

MrsR I spent my life thinking I had long body/short legs, but only when I actually had my proportions measured as part of my HoC style day did I realise I am pretty in proportion. In proportion, incidentally, means being 2" longer from floor to leg break (where the crease is when you lift your leg at the hip so your thigh is parallel to the floor) than you are from leg break to top of head.

Report
Negroni · 13/08/2013 13:42

Lovely bags Linus - where did you hear about them?

MrsR have always assumed I have long legs/short body because although am barely 5"2, normal trousers/skirts are not too long, petite trouser length are way too short, tops with a low neck give me about 7 inches of cleavage and dresses often have a baggy bit on my back or ride up too far. Basically I am short but can wear normal length trousers/ skirts but not tops.

MrsRadicchio · 13/08/2013 13:42

Thanks Hopefully - by my quick measurings, it turns out I have 4 inches difference between torso and legs (legs being longer). So I have long legs / short body!

Hello all, just a really quick catch up as I'm in between guests. One lot left this morning, the next arrive this afternoon. So haven't had much chance to spend on my iPad especially as it died yesterday but I'm now in love with the bloke at the Genius Bar in the apple store who fixed it! Will catch up properly at some point but just wanted to do mig s quiz...

  1. What was the first clothing item you remember really loving? I think it was my first pair of proper jeans for my 8 or 9th birthday. They had a red belt. Can't remember many outfits before then.

  2. What perfume did you recall your Mother wearing? And what aftershave did your Father wear? Mum only ever wore channel no5 very rarely as now wears none. Dad wore old spice!

  3. What was the first 'Designer' item you bought? I don't have anything designer...

  4. What is your most sentimental item of clothing/accessory? Engagement/wedding/eternity rings, charm bracelet and the first necklace dh bought me.

  5. What is your children's favourite item of clothing? Dd-currently a blue flowered swishy skirt from Asda. Ds- anything with skylanders/star wars/angry birds on. Dd2- anything with peppy pig/hello kitty on.

  6. What do you wear now that feels the most 'you'/ defines your personality? Jeans, blouse, cardigan, converse.

  7. If you could dress in any designer, but only one, who would it be? Absolutely no idea. I love elie Saab but probably not practical for every day wear! Whoever does classic, timeless pieces...?

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all? Anything too 'out there' I.e. anything very on trend as it makes me look like I'm trying too hard. Anything too dramatic that attracts attention.

Will catch up later. Interesting what you say about body/leg length hopefully. Will have to get the tape measure out.

Hallo.

Mignonette...yes, we were interested in french branded glasswear...we were looking for Pastis glasses but no such luck.

Negroni - Monica Dickens is very Pym-esque...Just read Pym too. Found a very good blog for that sort of genre reading, Mitford, Delafield, Whipple et al ...Booksnob.

  1. What was the first clothing item you remember really loving? Snug cashmere sweater from N Peal.

  2. What perfume did you recall your Mother wearing? And what aftershave did your Father wear? Mother-Chanel No 5. Not sure what Dad wore...always lemony cologne.

  3. What was the first 'Designer' item you bought? Katharine Hamnett jeans.

  4. What is your most sentimental item of clothing/accessory? Cartier watch given to me when DS born.

  5. What is your children's favourite item of clothing? DS-Brushed cotton PJs; DD1 Silver ballets; DD2 Ballet tutu and red wellies

  6. What do you wear now that feels the most 'you'/ defines your personality? Neat silhouettes; classic with a twist. breton with camouflage slim ankle skimmers etc.

  7. If you could dress in any designer, but only one, who would it be? Sighs...Chanel.

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all? Harems

Hmm, I think my legs and torso are pretty in proportion if I'm honest. I'm short anyway (5 foot exactly) but there doesn't seem to be much difference between my torso and legs. So I have that going for me at least Grin

mignonette · 13/08/2013 15:10

Dauphin Am loving the DD2 ballet tutu/red wellies combination. And i loved Katharine Hamnett too.

Queen I once saw an Eli Saab dress close up and it was sheer 3D art. I think it would be perfect for amusing young children-mine would've spent all day picking off the crystals, pearls, sequins and other frippery.

Another two 'votes' for sentimental attachments to jewellery...Definitely the thing respondents have most in common.

RE body shape, I know I have long legs in proportion to everything else because I can wear my DH's trousers and the legs are the right length even though I am a lot shorter. I buy L in trousers but because I am normal in the rise, they can be too big elsewhere. I have short arms. And big feet. I sound like a weird freak of nature don't I Grin?

Hello everyone! Thanks for all the ideas yesterday. I did look at the robotic lawnmower as that sounded right up dh's street. I closed the page down quickly when I saw the cost of it!!!! Shop, I have hired him a car from dreamcar before, he loved it. In a couple of years time, I will get him his dream car as a birthday present, although slightly apprehensive because it's not a cheap car and neither of us do the flashy thing.

Anyway, I think I am sorted. I made the card yesterday, which I think he will like as it is me on holiday wearing a red bikini hugging the kids. His present, a fitbit wristband, socks from Hugo boss plus trunks from Ralph Lauren (it's a joke between us), and Navy Heather this shawl neck jumper which I can't wait to see him in. I have booked dinner at The Bull Steak Expert as he wanted Argentinian food. This is a busy month! It's also four other family birthdays in the next 2 weeks so I had to sort out all the cards and presents yesterday as well. As I am not very well, I was (and still am shattered!).

Good to read everyone's answers to the quiz (I will do mine later) and to see new faces and welcome back to people like Turquoise and Grumpy. :)

one ,
seeing a dietician is the best thing to do,you might be intolerant to certain food that causes bloating it might even be the reason for not losing any weight. of course medication plays a big role too.
,i had a cs too,and i have no overhang, i suggest ,that after your toes are healed to try pilates, it really helped with toning my abs.once you get the all clear from your gp of course. hope it goes ok Flowers.

hopefully great tip, will measure later,

Feel better soon Novice....All of my stepchildren's birthdays are in the same week so know how it feels- the gift treadmill. I eagerly await the feedback from your Argentinian night-real 'manfood' that Grin...

santa can you do pilates at home or does it have to be done in classes? I'm very self conscious about being in a gym and I'd prefer to do stuff like that at home if I could Blush

Report
santamarianovella · 13/08/2013 16:55

you would get better results at the gym,and never ever feel self conscious about your body, you will see different types of bodies at the gym, taking a beginners class with other forms of low impact exercise might be the best thing for you, doing intense exercise like the shred, wont suit your condition at all,it might do more harm than good, maybe the dietician or your gp can give you better options on what exercises to do.

Yes Mig, I m probably too sentimental. Your comment on attaching to' things' was interesting, sorry to hear of a horrible childhood, heartbreaking.
I like your second female coat you linked.
Novice hope you feel better, lucky your dh - birthday plans sound really nice.

thanks santa I'll wait to see the dietitian and GP before starting anything new, it's probably for the best really, don't want to do any more harm, I think I'm broken enough.

Mig I totally get what you mean about 'things' I can't bear to throw anything away. I also had an appalling childhood and now things seem to be the only thing I can truly attach to without being paralyzed with fear over whether or not it's ok to feel how I do IYSWIM? I do have a diagnosis of BPD, PTSD and disordered mood so there's that to contend with and probably what causes the fear if I'm honest.

Foxy I put the Boden green sweater on my wish list when you first mentioned it a while ago ( waiting for a code) what's the icing like?
MrsR I think I have short legs, short body Grin and high boobs Confused
Linus my first perfume was Anais Anais, I wore it for years until I thought I'd better grow up.....but I've always loved that scent.
QueenC sounds like you're running a B and B , I know the feeling....looking fwd to the work starting on our house so I can't have any visitors!

Wow....Guernsey has some amazing jewelry shops! And VAT free.....tempting.....DH just replaced the Mont Blanc fountain pen he broke and said "what's that watch you like?" I nearly passed out think the sun and sea air has got to him .....they didn't stock Cartier thank God! but now he knows which is my dream watch Wink

  1. What was the first clothing item you remember really loving?
Pale wash, short denim dungarees, Tammy Girl 1990 with aztec t shirt. Depressingly, the cycle of fashion has turned full circle and the shops are full of them again!

  2. What perfume did you recall your Mother wearing? And what aftershave did your Father wear?
Mum wore Amarige (sp?) by Givenchy, Dad, no idea.

  3. What was the first 'Designer' item you bought?
VW safety pin dangly earrings for my wedding day!

  4. What is your most sentimental item of clothing/accessory?
Engagement/wedding rings and an amazing white faux fur coat that belonged to my Nana.

  5. What is your children's favourite item of clothing?
Nike Blazers, DS has 3 pairs or Ralph Lauren pants!

  6. What do you wear now that feels the most 'you'
Anything in black, white and grey. Loose on top, skinny on legs.

  7. If you could dress in any designer, but only one, who would it be?
A bit flashy for every day but I'm very drawn to the embellished, monochrome style of Balmain.

  8. What style/type of clothing does not suit you at all?
Anything washed out and faux surfer/outdoors. Think Fat Face and White Stuff. The colours and patterns make me look very mousy and make me feel invisible.

I can't remember who asked about white boots but I have some white chelsea boots and I love them. They look great with navy and black skinnies. I keep the rest of my outfit plain i.e skinnies, black jumper, white shirt, grey pea coat and they look fab (I think!) I wouldn't get ones for £££ though, they're aren't for wearing every day.

LOVE that Kooples skirt, great shape.
