Marsha On the beach I would just have suncreen on, vaseline on eyelashes and also lightly round eyes - as a barrier to the water. Would also probably wear a browny/nude sheer lipstick and keep re-applying [vain].

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. May have a a go at Pinterest concerned that all I will pin are amazing cakes, pictures of beaches and kitchenware But where do you all find the photos from? The ones of people in outfits, I mean, not the stuff from online shops? Also can you just pin any photos of celebs/ models you find, no copyright issues, I mean.

I think I need to train myself away from tat, though. I think my downfall is not buying a few good things and so I feel like I have a bit of this and bit of that and no clear style (apart from skinny jeans, trench jacket, bla bla). It isn't that I don't love fashion, clothes, just that I don't seem to have got to this grown up stage yet.

Queen Anni I love that radley grey bag, the leather looks lovely. Would probably be too sleek for me, not sure I can carry off sleek (hence fear of Bottega Veneta, though very lovely). I also love love love that blue essentiel antwerp bag - was going to mention it here myself!

Havaianas - must be the last person on the planet not to have tried them - just taking a straw poll - are they any better than other flip flops in your experience?? If so, they will be on my holiday shopping list.

shopafrolic · 09/08/2013 17:02

Havs are the best flip flops IMO - no issues with getting sore around the toes - they just don't rub and are v comfy.

santamarianovella · 09/08/2013 17:04

no make up for the beach here!,

shop i love spending time with my inlaws,my fil that is,he is super cool, mil is not a huge fan of me!,and prays for a divine interventionAngryi think its a universal thing to have issues with in laws!
all the best of luck.

ani i wouldnt queue either, rubbish lingerie IMO,

oh i like your boots linus

as for weekend plans,dh is away but my mum is visiting ,so i hope we can plan something for the weekend other than spending the day at divertimenti or the white company, its her ritual whenever she visits here!

mignonette · 09/08/2013 17:05

Good afternoon everybody and how has the day been?

Laughing at the thought of having an ice cream soiree and inviting you all Dry. That'd be wonderful. I too know I am chronologically old but does anybody else suffer imposter syndrome when they have to do anything really grown up? I often feel quite flaky and 'young' in my mind and emotions (the deep emotions that we mask) ie when discussing a charity donation with a young 19 yr old lad who knocked on my door a few days ago. Lots of 'when I was' anecdotes that made me feel very odd. And I listen to certain music and feel as young and stirred up as when I was nineteen/twenty five/fifteen! I found this online yesterday and it transports me Fleetwood back to my youth.

Negroni your outfits are like mine. I am sure that if I saw you in the street I would like what you have described. I love high fashion on an aesthetic/business/cultural level but it is best to have a 'look' that remains fairly stable with the addition of some new versions of favourite garments each season. It is the type of fabric/embellishment/detail that makes something 'modern'. The stylish people I admire tend to be fairly conservative in the changes they make. People like Phoebe Philo, Kate Bosworth (dress not acting), Mossy, they do not vary their look wildly. I use Pinterest and have created a 'Wear It' board with images of what I like. Useful in store when I am confused by choice. I also pin new purchases to remind me that I do not need another navy cardigan or grey sweatshirt! I love pearls and there is a great little article by Emily Holt in this months USA Vogue on trying to wear pearls again because the author fears they do not suit her.

Queen I cannot help it. DH and I love BB!

Marsha my beach look is factor 8 million and a bit of lip balm. I do not bother with anything else. Maybe a little eyeliner if I can be sure of no panda eyes. I adore the scent of Hawaiian Tropic though and hold it close as if I was a little glue sniffer Grin....I like all the after sun beauty stuff when I have a lobster golden glow. I use NARS multiples sometimes in Copacabana, Surf spray if I haven't already dunked my head in the sea and Monoi and Tahitian Vanilla skin oils I got from Harvey Nic's Beyond Beauty department several years ago. They have lasted years.

MY BARGAIN OF THE WEEK! Sorry for shouty caps but New Look is selling really good quality stretch cotton cardigans in round neck or deep V for £9,99. They are super smart looking and this teal one is mine as well as the dark indigo v neck cardigan. I have bought these before and they last years. Form an orderly queue people.

Anni I have a Cath Kidston apron in the cabbage roses print, a handful of mugs and I bought some cowboy PJ's as a gift for a friends baby. I like her bed linen and bought it for StepD when she went to Uni.

Shop I have a pin of Wine Ice Cream? Gaze at that whilst drinking the liquid variety. I avoid my MIL because she is so damn rude outspoken and one day soon I will erupt and it will not be pretty. For a woman who wears baggy patchwork 'Festival trousers' she is mighty judgemental of how other people look.

mignonette · 09/08/2013 17:09

Negroni....That is basically what I pin -over 2000 pictures of ice cream, loads of cakes, places I have been and clothes. The other boards are there to make me appear a well rounded individual Wink

Annianni · 09/08/2013 17:11

Hav's are the best.
Wouldn't buy any other flip flops. And they last for ages.

Who linked those asos black suede ankle boots?
I've ordered them for dsd, I'll report back when they arrive.

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2013 17:16

I liked those too. I was wondering what they were like.

Annianni · 09/08/2013 17:18

I've got a CK roses apron too.
And I'm wearing it now :o

In my defence, I am making pizza's from scratch and i'm a mucky pup at the best of times, so protective clothing is a necessity.

libertychick · 09/08/2013 17:20

Paris linked the asos Chelsea boots - I have been hanging out for some feedback too....

mignonette · 09/08/2013 17:22

Anni I love my apron so much I hardly ever wear it. Drives DH mad when i whinge about food all over my clothing but I cannot bear to harm it. I have a Moomins one that gets worn more.

QueenCadbury · 09/08/2013 17:23

Hello all. My name is queen Cadbury and my kids are driving me insane. I actually could happily walk out of the door and leave them right now. Haven't felt this bad since having pnd years ago and couldn't understand why I felt quite so angry with them. I was prescribed the pill a while ago for my endometriosis and although started it a couple of times I ended up stopping it either due to d&v or physical symptoms (really really sore breasts). I restarted it last week and was feeling happy that my breasts are fine but my mood obviously is not. Bloody progesterone-it's made me go loopy before-before dc3 I took the mini pill and by day 3 was feeling suicidal. I kid you not. So I will just have to put up with heavy periods and pain as this mood is not fair on my poor kids. Sorry for the essay but I needed to get that out!

Anyway, went to a lovely part of Bristol to watch the red arrows and seek out more Gromits and dragged dc into a shop that I love. I decided tht dh could treat me to this. I feel bad as a red bag wasn't on my list at all and I'm meant to be not spending but I love it. And it momentarily cheered me up.

Our boots were dispatched yesterday, so should be here tomorrow or Monday.

Ds2's bedroom now has cowboy wallpaper with a white painted floor, and it looks lovely.
It's just too small, so he's on the move.

Negroni · 09/08/2013 17:32

Queen love that bag! I have had my eye on the navy one for a while.

Annianni · 09/08/2013 17:34

Ah... QueenC, I feel your pain.
I have shouted at Ds1 every single day this week.
And I hate shouting!
He has been behaving like an utter arse though.

Lovely bag.

mignonette · 09/08/2013 17:36

Queen i do feel for you. Children cannot possibly be understanding of things like that even when they are the age mine are and you so need them to pipe down don't you? I do not know what to suggest...Sad...Could they not stop your menstrual cycle? I realise that surgery is bloody drastic, too drastic at your age but chemically could they do it? I envy you living in Bristol. such a cool cool city. I used to live over the bridge in Cardiff and visited St Pauls in the 80's when I was a student for dancing and general rumpus..(!). Check out Shanghai Tang's main site for red bags with tassels on -lovely they are. I bought DstepD a Zatchels purple saddle bag last birthday. It is super sturdy. I like their bronze ones they did too. That red is timeless.

AmberNectarine · 09/08/2013 17:38

I'm off out this evening - wearing a black Kooples Broderie top, super skinny grey Goldsigns, neon pink heels and carrying a grey/stone leopard print Mulberry Hayden. Not the most imaginative outfit I've ever worn, but it's a work thing so can't really push the envelope.

MarshaBrady · 09/08/2013 17:53

QueenC ah you poor thing. Yes it could be the pill. I took it once along time ago pre-dc and loathed it! Made me feel so different, hated it. Maybe discuss other options with a GP (although I'm sure you know what they are already).

How old are your dc btw?

Love the red bag.

Have fun Amber.

mignonette · 09/08/2013 17:56

Sounds a good choice Amber. I know people who would deem those shoes pretty rocking Smile. I have a lovely Kooples ochre folded skirt (although there are those who wouldn't put 'ochre' and 'lovely' in the same sentence) and I am very pleased with the quality.

I am staying in. I cannot be bothered to do anything after the talked out day i have had. God these meetings are full of self important waffle. And there i was thinking that I am the one who's head is on the block should something go wrong with an early discharge because the psychiatrists sure as hell will come up smelling of roses.

here is that lovely Shanghai Tang bag I spotted in an ad in Harpers Bazaar this month.

mignonette · 09/08/2013 17:57

whose head not who's head. God I am tired.

QueenCadbury · 09/08/2013 18:02

Thanks all. The plan was to try and stop my periods with both the coil (which initially helped) and the pill. After my laparoscopy I was advised further surgery wasn't an option as there's not much endo. Seeing my gynae on Monday though so will discuss it all.

marsha they are 2,5 and 7.

Texted dh to let him know I'd bought a bag as the dc are pissing me off. He's just texted back to say that's the best reason I've ever given him and he's not even going to ask how much. Damn, if only I'd walked into a shop selling longchamp Grin

Will catch up on all the links later once dc in bed. Have a fun night amber, outfit ounds lovely.

Drywhiteplease · 09/08/2013 18:12

Shop my sympathies, a hip flask may dull the pain!
QueenC I know hugs aren't cool, but I'm sending you one I'm v huggy so sorry you're feeling low, having kids to look after doesn't help.
Negroni it's hard to resist cheap tat....because its cheap Grin but I've learnt it is often (not always though, *Mig's" NL cardis look a good buy) a false economy.

Beach make up.....is it supposed to be different to every day ?Grin.......

Staying in tonight, DH at Ashes, DD sleepover, DH just back from rugby camp ( with a washing bag that was humming Shock ) so we are having son and mum night in front of Game of Thrones, I have Wine ....lovely!

Drywhiteplease · 09/08/2013 18:31

Oh and Mig less of that "chronologically old" stuff ......don't you know 40 is the new 30? I will never be old....chronologically or not Wink

Drywhiteplease · 09/08/2013 18:32

And Anni Flowers for that lovely pin board !

Annianni · 09/08/2013 18:35

The pill doesn't agree with me either QC.

Would those vitamins I take be any good to you?
If I remember to take them every day, my periods are much better.

Synergy natural
Super greens

They have spirulina, chlorella, barley grass and wheat grass in them.

I take 10 a day, and they mean I can actually leave the house whenever I want.

Annianni · 09/08/2013 18:36

Lovely outfit Amber.

What board Dry?!
