I agree, packing for uk is a nightmare. We're going to Cornwall so will be packing waterproofs/wellies as well as shorts. Luckily you can fit lots in a people carrier.

The trousers are going to foxy as if I haven't made them work in 4 months I never am!

dry probably top, rolled up indigo jeans and silver sandals. Nothing smart as mid week it's empty and I have to walk back home up a big hill!

mignonette · 08/08/2013 19:15

Dry Have been laughing like a loon at the thought of you two. I have never been to the Channel Isles despite 'waving' to them regularly whilst passing them on Brittany Ferries. They are quite a mystical place in my minds eye.

Foxy try the second hand agencies that trade in them such as the Pandora Dress Agency, Designers$Less, merinofashions.co.uk, hardlyeverwornit.com

These all advertise in Vogue and Harpers Bazarr.

Talking of Harpers Bazarr magazine it has so improved under Justine Picardies' editorship. Loads of interesting articles in this month's plus a free little box of Elizabeth Ardens skin care capsules. Currently reading an article written by Margaret Atwood on clothing and fashion in literary fiction. Interesting.

mignonette · 08/08/2013 19:16

Dry that should be Designers4Less

scripsi · 08/08/2013 19:39

I fell off the Vogue convoy when I had an operation and am also caring for MIL who is in the last months of her life (and I am working full time).
I am determined to stop wearing black leggings in my spare time (how did they find their way back onto my body again?!) and get back into the clothes I had started buying under MNV tutelage. This will involve sales shopping.
So, could everyone tell me what their current favourite:
work outfit
off duty outfit
night out outfit
is?

thanks!

Drywhiteplease · 08/08/2013 19:46

The reason scripsi is that leggings are so

Drywhiteplease · 08/08/2013 19:47

Mig we've never been either....really looking forward to an adventure!

QueenCadbury · 08/08/2013 19:59

I'm sitting here ready to go drinking Sauvignon blanc and pleased with my outfit. Added silver belt and silver necklace. I feel a bit guilty that after a 12h day for dh I'm literally going to blow him a kiss and run!

dry I went to guernsey years ago and it was lovely and tax free shopping

hi scripsi. You sound like you have your hands full. I don't work and when I did most of the time I wore a uniform. When I was on management days I wore the uninspired black trousers and blouse. Off duty for me is jeans ( straight or boot cut) with converse, neutral (grey/black/navy/ white) top and cardigan in a winter colour accessoried with watch, charm bracelet and silver bangle. Night out outfit generally consists of black cigarette trousers (straight rather than slim/skinny) with either navy or black blouse/top. As you can see I'm not very adventurous Grin

scripsi · 08/08/2013 20:01

Thanks QueenCadbury my current smart work outfit is a navy boucle blazer with black cigarette trousers and black top. It seems as though I am trying to be invisible. In fact I am a light summer so should not be wearing black but navy is passable on me!

LinusDKD · 08/08/2013 20:13

I finally managed to catch up!

Hi newbies and lurkers!

novice I love that MK dress, such a lovely colour.

I really like brogues but I also think I am too short to pull them off.

dry that Radley bag is truly beatutiful. Good buy!

foxy good news about the client payment. I saw lots of Balenciagas today in all sizes and colours and they are lovely. I hope you find the one you love at a decent price.

With regard to hair styling, I discovered the BBH this week and I am converted. How did I live without this appliance for so long? I need to get the hang of it a bit more but so far the results are really impressive.

I have lots of thin wavy hair that goes mad a the slightest hint of humidity but most serums and oils I have tried are just too silicone heavy and make my hair greasy and weigh it down.

queenc sure, I'll buy you that bag for your 40th! Would you like a matching wallet with that? Wink

I have been very, very naughty today. I broke my shopping ban.

I bought a pair of black Acne Colts but in my defense, I have been looking for some ankle boots for a while and these ones are lovely.

I tried on the pistols as well but the colts were more flattering on my short legs. Although the pistols lined with fake fur were super toasty. Smile

I also tried on the J. Choo Youths in a kind of stained black leather and they were gorgeous. DH didn't like them very much and they were more £££ than the Colts, but I would like to buy a pair one day.

It did feel weird trying on winter boots in a seaside resort on a hot sunny day. But when I told a shopping assistant this she said they even sell fur coats in summer [schock]

foxysocks · 08/08/2013 20:13

Good qu scripsi! Quick off the top of my head answers

Work: Stella mc yellow bra top and charcoal lululemons (guessing this wont work for your workplace?!)
Night out: all saints draped black top, skinnies( grey or faded black), yellow DvF pointed flats
Daytime: I like my j crew neon tee with grey ruched mini skirt and yellow/zebra flat sandals. Also works with denim shorts or skinnies.

Oh that's very yellow based, isn't it? Interesting.

scripsi · 08/08/2013 20:19

I like the idea of all that yellow and I could get away with it as long as it was away from my face!

Alas I would clear my workplace if I wore a yellow bra top. It is a creative industry but not that creative!

I like the grey ruched mini skirt.

CajaDeLaMemoria · 08/08/2013 20:24

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone! You are a friendly bunch. I'm glad I posted now!

DryWhite I found the L'Oreal Go Create spray in Morrisons while grabbing tea, for £2!! I'll give it a go in the morning. Hair is currently looking like I've been electrocuted, so I best not try now.

I love those bags, Queen. I'll need a relatively big bag to carry all my work stuff around in, but probably can't stretch to something like that until I've got a few paydays under my belt. I'll probably have to search ASOS, haha!

santamarianovella · 08/08/2013 20:31

foxy www.malleries.com sell genuine balenciaga bags, second hand and NWT,but in all honesty its not that much cheaper than a new one, maybe save for a new one? your almost half way with the amount you have, or if you like the the crossbody , the giant hip bag is less than 500.

Drywhiteplease · 08/08/2013 20:40

Linus love those boots, love this outfit

Scrispi
casual downtime summer, I do this look a lot
my downtime winter
work is smart/casual
work
Going out is usually a dress....

McNally · 08/08/2013 21:17

Lovely boots Linus. Have been considering the BBH too. Sounds good.

Scripsi hope you are ok. Sounds tough.
Here are my typical outfits
Off duty - J Brand 814 jeans, grey Gap or J Crew t shirt, matt gold or tan ballet shoes
Work - grey Gerard Darel knee length dress, black and maroon Kurt Geiger mid height heels
Night out - not sure I remember those... - black J Brand straight leg trousers, grey ruched Anthropolgie top, orange clutch, black patent heels

Hhhmm, I appear to wear grey and black exclusively. May have to address that!

shopafrolic · 08/08/2013 21:19

Waves to all. Beach day again today - just lovely! No time to even try to catch up other than to say welcome to Caja and buy this a fab oil that tames thick hair and makes it super shiny but not greasy.
Welcome back Scripsi
Work is SAHM so J Crew tee, skinny jeans and snakeskin flats are a fave at the mo.
Going out - I don't dress up massively and tend to keep it simple so Paige Jimmy Jimmy jeans, silk blouse of some description and nude LKB Floretes with AH Gracie bag in red.

scripsi · 08/08/2013 21:22

Thanks Drywhiteplease! They look really really beautiful and fresh. I am going to attempt making a pinterest account at some point.

McNally thanks, I am trying to keep it together. DMIL is much loved (am OK until the DC cuddle her and then I lose it).

The off duty outfit sounds very much in reach for me. I love grey and it is quite flattering on me, so it sounds as if I am in the market for some decent grey jeans, grey ruched mini and some pops of colour (orange clutch, bright yellow somethings ...).
Some bright colours might feel me a little less burnt out.

scripsi · 08/08/2013 21:23

shopafrolic, sorry x-post. Silk blouse would be a great investment and I have seen some lovely jcrew silk blouses. The pop of colour from the Gracie sounds just right!

AmberNectarine · 08/08/2013 21:24

scripsi you sound like a hero. When I had an operation on my hand it was all hoodies and harems - dark times.

Work outfit - white shirt, navy V Westwood high waisted skirt, patent orange slingback flats.

Off duty - T by Alexander Wang muscle vest, Goldsign skinnies jeans, one of many pairs of slipper flats,

Night out - Phillip Lim I love NY vest, vintage wash skinnies, Louboutin pigalles, zebra print Jimmy Choo candy clutch.

mignonette · 08/08/2013 21:27

Good evening Scripsi I'm not far out of the caring for dying relatives (FIL this April just gone, Father the July before) so my sympathies. It is a hard path at times.

As for work I need to wear clothing that is not body revealing, that will not cause me harm (nothing chokeable) and when I was on the MH unit, shoes that I could run fast in! I'm usually community based now going onto wards/prisons etc for meetings/ward rounds so similar constraints.

I like cigarette type pants, shirts or T's with cardigans. I do wear skirts, a lot of tube and A line with sweatshirt slouchy type sweaters. Dresses tend to be Tea dress style or folded and pleated but not too 'smart'. I love fashion but I am not a 'neat' looking person. I wear weird colour combinations and like odd 'fugly' type colours too. In the evening I tend to wear quite similar with some cool shoes/boots and fabrics that are a little more out there. I like the slouchy blazer look.

I do harbour a soft spot for the old 90's 'Ragga Girl' look and may revert to that when I am seventy Grin and wear 90's Chloe grey satin combat drawstring 'Batty Riders' or palm tree print shorts, neon pink string vests over white vests, jangles of cheap bangles from Roman Road, long nails and threaded tailed hair worn long (likely a wig when I am 70). I will look so fine Grin...

shopafrolic · 08/08/2013 21:52

Look! now with long sleeves!

libertychick · 08/08/2013 21:53

Great question scripsi

Work: Black Michael Kors ankle skimmer trousers, black and white stripe crew neck T-Shirt with this Whistles jacket and black ballet flats.

Off duty: 7FAM indigo skinnies, white and navy short sleeve Boden breton, pale grey Whistles Lena jacket, pink superga.

Night out - rarely happen! Black slim fit levis, silk shirt, snakeskin flats

scripsi · 08/08/2013 22:04

Thanks Amber, really not a hero. Navy and orange sound beautiful together.
I seem to have suddenly aged. I suddenly feel very self-conscious about my legs and that means I don't feel I can wear the dresses I used to wear. Because of lifting MIL etc I seem to have lots of bruises too which doesn't help.
mignonette: like the idea of sweatshirts and skirts. I am also fond of slouchy blazers!
I had to chuckle when I read your ragga girl look with your batty riders. I think we are a similar vintage and I will happily join your band of ragga pensioners Smile

mignonette · 08/08/2013 22:11

Yes Scripsi I am a '66 . A fine year for the production of little humans...
But Scripsi You really shouldn't be risking your back by lifting MIL. Have you got community support? Have you got access to moving & handling aids? If not please go to your GP and ask for a community occupational therapy assessment for any home aids you may need to make life easier for both you and MIL. Have you also been told that you can have night sitters should things become harder for you? There is a lot that can be done to help but you are not always told about the existence of these services.

scripsi · 08/08/2013 22:14

libertychick - you sound very understatedly chic. That whistles jacket is a thing of beauty. Again I love the pop of colour with the pink superga. I have some 7FAM skinnies languishing in the back of a cupboard so I shall try to dig them out.
