Really enjoyed A Single Man. Colin Firth and Juliannd Moore are fantastic. Strangely attracted to Tom Ford's perfectionism. Looking forward to sleep's report!

mignonette · 05/08/2013 23:34

Have thrown my hat (bag) in the ring over on the bag thread. Got sick of reading such crap.

Gilly Hello there

mignonette · 05/08/2013 23:41

Too late Dry although I won't bother to go back and read any retorts to my comment because I really do not give a shit Grin if Higgs heaves her bosom Grin at me.

I do not like the sound of Tom Ford because he has made some rather unplleasant comments directed at women's appearances (Re Ageing) in the past. I also do not like prissy perfectionism-he uses mathematical devices to shave his beard into a perfect shape. The only mathematical device I use is a calculator to count up the cost of all my bags Grin....

santamarianovella · 05/08/2013 23:55

omg! i missed such a great chat this evening!hot men and bags! why did we have to go out

Magnifique Mig ! That was awesome! I've learnt a lot. You are amazing.
Now not .liking T Ford as much.....
Colin and John.

LeFreakCestChic · 06/08/2013 00:09

Lovely bag links novice and shop. Seriously tempted now.
Re hot men, bagsie Idris Elba in all his Lutheran glory.

mignonette · 06/08/2013 09:46

I used to like Billy Crudup in the film 'Almost Famous' as I have a bit of a thing for that 70's doe eyed rock star look although the moustache doesn't do it for me. He is super intelligent too and is a serious actor. I also like Denzil Washington and wish I had a Father like Morgan Freeman who seems so grounded, warm and intelligent. I'm struggling to think of anybody I really moon over though tbh. The last crush I had was my team manager and he now seems to be living in my house - yes, cliche, I married my boss and made myself a thorough nuisance until he 'gave in' and took me out fora drink.

I am now dressed. Am wearing a pale lime/cream shirt dress in a thin organza stiff cotton bought on holiday with these. Sounds and odd colour combination and I probably look like a 1950's ice cream sundae but never mind. I have underwear on too. Posh stuff from Stella here that was one of my gifts from DH alongside the &OtherStories sandals which he paid for, a lovely Pumpkin coloured calfskin wallet bought on holiday and some kitchen stuff.

OneLittleLady · 06/08/2013 10:24

Those sandals are lovely mig I'm throughly jealous of anyone who is wearing heels at the minute as my toes are still not healed enough for me to wear any

I'm babysitting my niece this morning (well she's DP's niece but I class her as my own) so I'm just relaxing with a coffee before she arrives. She's a total whirlwind so there'll be no relaxing once she gets here Grin

libertychick · 06/08/2013 11:27

Have fun with DN one!

Lovely sunny day here - bit of a fashion fail for me - I am wearing nude tights!!! Had no time to shave my legs this morning and trousers all in the wash or the ironing basket - have considered a few time recently that my failure to look good at times is more to do with being a lazy domestic slattern rather than lacking clothes or a sense of style!

So today's outfit, mustard BR skirt, with cobalt select femme silk blouse (via Shop) and the M&S snakeskin flats. Wearing a lovely new murano glass heart shaped pendant - green, blue and gold stripes on a gold necklace - 40th B'day gift - it's very lovely.

skylerwhite · 06/08/2013 11:43

My Hobbs Coat just arrived. The colour is really lovely, and it's a v nice style. I'm a bit worried that it gapes slightly around the waist, but it seems to fit all right on the shoulders.

mignonette · 06/08/2013 12:14

Have fun One. Your poor feet. Hope the children are sparing of you.

Liberty that colour scheme sounds ace. I love colour. I know those Murano glass pendants as they are sold in a local independent jewellers near me. DH gave me one of the rings in a beautiful green and I promptly chipped a chunk off it on the side of our freezer Sad. As I have said, I am Death To Jewellery. here are the rings.

Skyler that is a bargain-ous coat in a gorgeous colour too. I love those Military great coat styles. They do not always suit me. I would love to be able to dramatically swish about in one but I'd look like a child dressed in too long clothing. Could you get a dressmaker to tailor the waist? That is apparently what a lot of fashion people do to get that bespoke look.

I have discovered some bargain sale items on this website called Farfetch.com. One item on sale is the Stella pink/orange sweater that I believe Marsha coveted (and maybe purchased?). I have ordered a few things. They ship from stores and act as a showcase I believe.

Annianni · 06/08/2013 12:19

Skyler, have you tried it with a jumper underneath?

skylerwhite · 06/08/2013 12:23

That's a good idea about tailoring. I might investigate that.

I never wear jumpers, Anni, so don't imagine I'd be wearing it with one.

libertychick · 06/08/2013 12:25

Great coat Skyler - apparently shoulders are the hardest thing to adjust so if they fit well it's an easy job for a dressmaker to fit it at the waist - good point by Anni though, check it out with layers underneath first. I would buy it if it was available in navy or dark grey!

libertychick · 06/08/2013 12:26

Never wear jumpers!!!! How do you stay warm?

skylerwhite · 06/08/2013 12:39

I don't really feel the cold! I might stretch to a v light cardigan in the depths of winter. I have cold hands no matter what I wear - bad circulation.

I also just realised why I have so many dresses in my wardrobe. I am not good at matching or putting together outfits. And when you have mostly dresses, you don't have to worry about 'does this top go with this skirt'. I wish I was better at that, as I'd like to vary my outfits, esp for work.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/08/2013 13:53

Hello All!

Back from travels and I can't say I'm sorry. Holiday was one of the worst I've ever had, if not the worst. DH was in work mode (and dragging me in too) the entire time and BIL was a freakin nightmare. Safe to say we won't be sharing any more holidays with him. V expensive too - cut right into my AW budget Wink. The shopping was non existent where we were, so the one cloudy day we had was a bit boring. My J Crew dresses arrived as expected, i.e when I was halfway to Portugal, but it was like Christmas when I got back as they and all the Boden pre-orders had arrived. More than half of DD's stuff went back on account of being too small (she's at that in between age) but will hopefully be exchanged easily for larger sizes as I was v impressed with all of it. My dress and J Crew-esque sweater are totally gorgeous. I think Boden have really upped their game and, 'fun' stuff notwithstanding, have created a very nice collection, many pieces wouldn't look out of place on J Crew's website.

OneLittleLady · 06/08/2013 14:28

DN has just left, she didn't want to go home! We did colouring, keyboard playing, guitar playing, watched a DVD and did nail painting. It's been great fun but boy am I exhausted now! I'm having her again later in the week so better grab my rest where I can!

I'm still angling for a tulle skirt, I'd love one in purple but think it might be difficult to match things to it Sad

mignonette · 06/08/2013 14:37

Hi Grumpy I was wondering last night where you were, what exotic locale you were adventuring in. What pattern/colourway did you choose? I like them both but the sweater is more 'me'. That dress wouldn't suit me and I'd look awful in it. Wrong height.

One There are some chiffon tulle type skirts on the American Apparel website here. They have single and double layer chiffon. Some of the photos are a b it porny especially the underwear ones. Knowing what a perve the owner has been accused of being, you may or may not wish to buy from them.

Enjoy a rest One. Sounds like you did a great job with her.

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 06/08/2013 14:44

Hi Mig. I got the dress in the black/white dalmatian print, the sweater in the grey with black spots. Being shortarse petite, I find that is the best shape/length of dress for me.

My mum came to pick up DD on Sunday and take her home with her for a couple of weeks and I was blown away with how great my mum looks. She was wearing a white boxy fine-knit silk sweater (very plain and chic), grey skinnies and gold snake print sandals - she looked fab! And she doesn't even read MNV (or so I hope...)

mignonette · 06/08/2013 15:28

I like your choices. Your Mother sounds great Grumpy... I feel pretty cool about getting older because the clothing I gravitate towards will suit me still (IMO).

foxysocks · 06/08/2013 15:31

A tempted by the Dalmatian dress grumpy but gok where I would wear it!

OneLittleLady · 06/08/2013 15:35

That's the kind of thing I'm looking for mig I just can't quite see that one working for what I want. Perhaps it's the way it's styled on the models, they look awful IMO.

Switz · 06/08/2013 15:38

Hi Ladies

Am delurking to this thread after reading the notorious handbag thread and becoming too scared to just ask this in a thread of it's own. Sorry if am hijacking but really need to know what to do with this bag. My darling SIL unfortunately died earlier this year and her husband gave her Ralph Lauren Ricky bag to me with instructions to 'use it as an everyday bag like she did'. Now she was an incredibly glamorous girl who never looked less than a million pounds even in the early days of having a newborn. I on the other hand am on the scruffier end of the scale and although I saved and splurged on a Tory Burch handbag a couple of years ago my go to every day handbag is either my grotty nappy bag or a cross body small pleather job from h&m. So my question is this: those of you with young kids (DD is 21 months and am due DD2 in Nov) how do you utilise a high end bag on a day to day basis?Am aware this bag was about £2400 and the thought of dumping it on a table at a playgroup as I run around after DD scares the bejasus out of me but I want to use it as she would have done (having said that she never really went to playgroups or ran around in parks). So how do you ladies in the know do it?

mignonette · 06/08/2013 16:36

Hi there Switz and welcome. What a wonderful legacy and sorry to hear about the loss of your SIL. What a lovely lovely way to remember her and an interesting question.

First of all, is the bag a pale colour? The first thing I would do is buy some leather protector and rain proofer. Any good cobblers/ shoe and bag retailer can advise you on the best product and I imagine that if you emailed the main Ralph Lauren stores, they would be delighted to assist you by providing you with after care advice. They will also help you to replace any hardware on it as it gets worn too. If it came with its own dust bag make sure it is stored in there and keep it stuffed with paper to keep shape if it is unused. Let it dry out slowly if it gets wet and keep away from heat sources.

Secondly, keeping an eye on any bag is always a good idea. I do not let my bag out of my sight regardless of cost and certainly a high end bag can attract the wrong attention so always hold it securely when out and about. You can buy little bag hooks to attach it to a table underneath to avoid dirty floors/thieves who may try to snatch it if it is left unattended.

Thing is, a well loved bag is a thing of loveliness too. It will inevitably get a little scuffed but that is part of its charm and maybe you will want to hand it down one day to a DD. So I would never advise you to sell it even if you end up keeping it in a cupboard most of the time.

I just cart mine about TBH. They can get as little ragged but your SIL clearly wanted you to use this and perhaps had an inkling that you might not Smile feel confident about it.
