missbopeep · 28/07/2013 11:20

I only ask because my spend has been quite small due to the late summer.

I have bought 1 dress, 1 pair summer chinos (Boden) 1 nice T shirt /top (Jigsaw) and I cardi (Jigsaw) total about £170.

Quite a lot....but needed it as my summer clothes were dated, tatty, unfashionable and didn't quite fit..the 2 dc (3&5) have stopped shopping missions in the past so I have gone Internet shopping mad...all comes from the same courier who knows my name now :-)

Maxi dress, 2 jean crops, sandals, 2 short chinos, 2 sleeveless blouses, 2 vests from white stuff...4 bras....new gym kit...etc etc

Nowt, but then I'm a canny Northern lass!

deleted203 · 29/07/2013 01:30

missbopeep Of course you can spend your money on what you want! I'm just saying that £65 would be a lot of money in our household for a t shirt and a cardi.

Your OP said that your spend had been small this year - £170 on four items. And you asked what others had spent. I was simply commenting that that would not be seen as a small amount to me.

SupermansBigRedPants · 29/07/2013 01:49

I've spent all summer pregnant still am god damn it so wore dresses and tops from the last couple of years - I was pregnant summer '11 then fat last summer - until I outgrew them, then I bought a load of cheap long vest tops and a couple of loose thin dresses from primark and asda plus a light coat and some cropped leggings.

Probably under 80 for the whole lot to be honest but I'm not expecting to get use if much of it next year - the coat and one dress are the only ones I expect to 'survive' new baby sick, drool, snot and poop let alone washing and df's obsession with the tumble dryer Hmm

VestaCurry · 29/07/2013 01:53

£80 on some sandals and t shirts

justanuthermanicmumsday · 29/07/2013 02:00

I've spent nothing on clothes for the last few years. I feel like I've been pregnant non stop in maternity wear. i need new clothes but i don't want fat clothes. So i refuse to buy i will lose the weight then get an entire ne wardrobe. Till then i don't give two hoots about fashion.

All my money is spent on kids clothes

Yes I am a bit sad but hey I have gorgeous kids even if i feel ugly myself.

I could do with some sandals though...

altostratus · 29/07/2013 02:08

£150 on shoes (two wedge pairs and one canvas pair). £ Approx 150 on four dresses. £34.00 on one skirt.

I think of myself as shopping quite carefully, I guess it all adds up though! Having lost weight and gone back to work 4 months ago I have needed to get some new stuff, so I do have an excuse. I am trying to find a new swimsuit too, haven't included that; I have a couple on order, but may yet well send them back.

higgle · 29/07/2013 07:39

£1.98 on two pairs of shorts from ebay until last week, when I failed to resist a lovely dress in the Monsoon sale - I really needed soemthing smart without sleeves. (£29)

missbopeep · 29/07/2013 08:07

sowornout

It's all relative, as you say.
For me, £170 over the summer is not a lot of money for 4 items that I'll get a lot of wear from.

On the other hand, I have friends who buy bags at £1K each, and think nothing of spending £150 on 1 jumper.

And on the other hand my DD who is just out of uni buys most of her stuff at Primark and H&M, where she picks up tops etc for a few pounds.

I have fortunately been to busy to get into the city centre but have bought online:
1 pair of sandals from &otherstories, 1 of pair sandals from Asos and a Whistles smock dress thing from eBay, several plain white, grey, peach t shirts from new look. Quite restrained I think.

Peetle · 29/07/2013 08:27

Nothing. Spent roughly £150 about 2 years ago and it all still fits and hasn't worn out. My clothes are a pretty low priority spend and I utterly despise clothes shopping.

freddiefrog · 29/07/2013 09:31

About £100 I think

Where the last few summers have been rubbish, I haven't really got many properly summery clothes so needed a few bits and bobs - past summer wardrobes have consisted of jeans with a t-shirt and a couple of maxi dresses for the odd nicer day

I've bought a couple of pairs of shorts, some tops, sandals, couple of summer dresses, etc.

justasecond · 29/07/2013 12:12

Nothing specifically for hot weather other than a pair of cotton/linen tapered trousers from H&M for £10 in sale. Have bought other stuff that can be worn all year round too though:
silk/cotton mix fine knit slouchy breton stripe jumper from zara
Isabel Marant etoile cotton blouse - bargain in NAP sale!
Whistles freya chambray shirt
Massimo dutti printed loose tapered trousers in sale -
massimo linen long sleeve top also sale
French connection navy cotton shirt with coral embroidery.
All have been a lot in hot weather!

LynetteScavo · 29/07/2013 12:16

£0

Because everything makes me look fat.

happybubblebrain · 29/07/2013 12:22

1 glittery top - £10.
1 pair of Fat Face cotton trousers £17 (in TK Maxx).
1 Bra £6 (TK Maxx).
1 pair of very nice sandles £25 (reduced from £70).
1 bikini £8 (reduced from £16 in Boots).

Total = £66

I have spent £££s on dd's summer wardrobe.

UtterflyButterfly · 29/07/2013 12:27

1 pair of flipflops for upcoming holiday
5 assorted tops as I realised I had nothing decent for work or going out, having had no summer last year and having moved house and chucked a load of ancient tatty stuff.
1 pair black chinos

Total spend = approx £250

forevergreek · 29/07/2013 12:39

A fair bit. However I have had a lot of work abroad these last few months so have needed things for extra hot climate/ some suitable for middle east/ some smart yet cool etc..

I also buy to last though. For example my winter coat was £200 ish, but 5 years ago, it still looks new. My snow boots £160, 3 years ago. As new again. I have never thrown away a bikini/ kaftan etc from being out of shape etc so have a nice collection now.

I don't usually buy a new wardrobe each season. And even though I brought a fair bit as mentioned above, they should last me for years now hopefully for when I need that type of clothing abroad.

£5 tshirt x5 =£25. If someone buys each year then £125 in 5 years. Compared so say £30 tshirt, x2, last forever

carrie74 · 29/07/2013 12:39

I don't think it's been too much (if specifically for summer):

£25 M&E maxi dress (totally bargainous as would have been about £100 full price);
£20 ish Gap shorts (worn loads already)
£20 blue Havs (as everyone tells me they'll last forever)
£70 2 Ts from M&E (which hopefully should hold their shape very well and last - I love their cut and fabric, so am pleased).

I've bought a few other things, but I wouldn't class them as solely summer: 3 pairs of ballet slippers as all of mine needed replacing, a good leather belt, a leather jacket Shock, a couple of pairs of cigarette pants (for work).

I also bought a few things over Easter, as we were in the US, so that supplemented my summer wardrobe a bit too (although I seem to have spent most on underwear, and the rest on largely cross-seasonal things).

itsnothingoriginal · 29/07/2013 20:46

Pair of Superga -£17 in TK Maxx
Ballet flats £7 Asda
Vest top and long sleeved top from gap £10 in sale
2 tops from Fat Face sale £15
Few bits and pieces from Tesco -£20
Dress £20 Dorothy Perkins

That's actually a lot for me but did get some bargains and haven't bought summer clothes for years..

The only people I know spending money on clothes atm are my mum's friends - mostly all baby boomers!! No one else I know has any spare cash for clothes..

ShoeWhore · 29/07/2013 21:46

I haven't bought masses tbh.

1 pair sandals - £25 to me as I had a voucher for HoF
2 tops (1 in sale) - about £50 in total
1 pair bright blue cropped jeans although not sure I count those as summer I'm quite short so they aren't very cropped on me Grin £45
1 bikini - over £50 as I need proper scaffolding for giant norks

So £170 altogether. Would have been more if I could find any nice tops which aren't (a) polyester or (b) high necked.

KristinaM · 29/07/2013 22:27

Nothing

But I have spent about £20 on fabric dyes to dye all my summer clothes. Because after having my colours done i realised that my summer wardrobe of tasteful beige, grey and khaki was doing nothing for me .so now it's red, deep pink, blue, deep green and purple. And I dyed some faded jeans back to navy
