A well fitting, smart/sexy and preferably push-up bra size 38A... impossible???

I am sooo fed up with trying to find a well fitting bra, preferably nice looking and adding a bit of "volume" in my size...
I'm starting to feel like a freak!
Am i really the only person in the world with really small breasts and a slightly larger ribcage?
Every bra I find is either too tight around my chest or has gaping cups. I need a wired one as any others leave me looking completely flat-chested.
Any suggestions of shops or online retailers would be greatly appreciated!

try a 34dd-what are you in just now?

Mmmnotsure · 29/06/2013 20:53

Okay. I found an old bra.

Fitted quite tightly round my ribcage. But the middle bit at the front was sticking out away from the skin and there is no way I could get all my ?fat? ?boob? into the cups when I tried the scooping bit. It looked ridiculous.Sad

Any suggestions what style of bra (wide norks, as you suggested, and carrying a bit too much fat) I should start with?

Thank you.

glastonburywishIwerethere · 29/06/2013 20:57

Thanks Statistically I was just reading the fitting instructions on the blog.

But straps fall off my shoulders and boobs disappear under my arms not a good look!

FrugalFashionista · 29/06/2013 21:03

Just wanted to say a 6-months post-intervention thank you Thanks to Stats and Sorrel. I thought I was 36A/B, or something - currently wearing a DD cup. And haven't looked back!

Velve · 29/06/2013 21:09

Thanks Stat, I do not suit plunges at all, it always end up all squishy and bulging. Balconette ones are the best for my shape.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/06/2013 21:09

mmmnot...The middle sitting away is a classic cup size too small indicator. I would suggest trying something with a wide cup and soft back...maybe a curvy Kate tease me entice fleurty or smoothie. All run small in cup so try upper size range. backs are loose.

LizTerrine · 29/06/2013 21:12

Oh good god, can I join in? I suddenly realise how wrong I've got this...!

So, I'm measuring 36 around the ribcage, and 44 around the widest part. I'm currently wearing a manky old 38DD. How far out am I?!

LizTerrine · 29/06/2013 21:13

PS, I am backfatorama... Blush

Mmmnotsure · 29/06/2013 21:15

a curvy Kate tease me entice fleurty or smoothie.

It's another language.

Thank you, Statistically - I'll have a look for these.

LizTerrine · 29/06/2013 21:17

Oh, and I'm lopsided. Do we buy for the big boob or the small one?

Have just scooped Shock

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/06/2013 21:17

A 36FF Shock

Can anyone recommend a good nursing bra?

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 29/06/2013 21:41

Hi room for one more?
Currently wearing an old 32f but more usually 30g.
Measure 31 underneath, 40 dangling - which I think should be a 30g.

Trouble is, I've always liked having 'em hoiked up high and have gritted my teeth and suffered the shoulder pains and welts. I have mild scoliosis as well as a slightly bigger left boob, so all of the challenge is felt by the left shoulder and side of neck.

But now I'm 50 I just cba with the pain any more, so I loosen the left strap almost to the limit and just have the right tightened a tad. Of course now I look completely matronly which is depressing to say the least, but at least the pain has eased off a bit.

I'm wondering if there's a particular style I should try - or maybe try a 30gg? If it's true that a well-fitting bra shouldn't need tight syraps there must be something out there that would feel comfortable but not look like this?

Ilanthe · 29/06/2013 22:04

Can I just say that Selfridges fit properly. They fitted me as a 30D. Soooo comfy. I've never measured round my bust but I am definitely 30 underbust. M&S put me in a 34A.

I have bra interventioned my mum who went from a 34AA to a far more respectable 32C.

Katz · 29/06/2013 22:24

Bought a couple of 32h bras in the debenhams sale, will see if they fit better than the 32g ones. Less overflowing of cups I'm hoping.

CountryMama · 30/06/2013 09:35

Will you help me please... i got a fitting at m&s a week ago and i am a 38 A apparently but i just measured myself now and i'm 34" under and 39" when I measure over my boobs hanging down. The other thing you need to know is I didn't develop in puberty and I have little/ no breast tissue. Just very large areola (sp?). Please help! I hate bra shopping.

SorrelForbes · 30/06/2013 09:42

M&S you give me the rage! Stop fucking adding 4/5".

OK, CountryMama You need to start with a 34DD and similar sizes (e.g. 34D, 34E). Having said that, my DSis has a 5" difference between her two measurements but actually needs a FF cup.

CountryMama · 30/06/2013 12:55

Thank you. I will try some on and get back to you. Thank you so much.

AuntFini · 30/06/2013 18:26

Fancy helping me out? I'm wearing a 34c, as measured by la senza. previously m&s said 34b. I have little boobs.

I just measured 30/31 (didn't know how right to go) under boobs and then again didn't know how tight to go leaning over so that was 39/40. Bra-me!

SorrelForbes · 30/06/2013 18:49

Bearing in mind that the under bust measurement should be tight and the across bust loose, I'd say try a 30GG.

TrixyPixie · 30/06/2013 18:52

Ok, deep breath, 38, 45. Shock

Please work your magic bra ladies. Smile

EMUZ · 30/06/2013 18:59

Trixy - try a 38F to start

AuntFini · 30/06/2013 19:26

30gg....

louisianablue2000 · 30/06/2013 20:03

Lizterrine I've alway worn Freya BFing bras and they've bben very comfortable and they have some sexier designs like http://www.bravissimo.com/products/lingerie/nursing-bras/rosie-nursing-bra/black-fuchsia/fy109bfu/. The matching shorts do a good job of minimising my 'I've had three children' belly.
