A well fitting, smart/sexy and preferably push-up bra size 38A... impossible???

I am sooo fed up with trying to find a well fitting bra, preferably nice looking and adding a bit of "volume" in my size...
I'm starting to feel like a freak!
Am i really the only person in the world with really small breasts and a slightly larger ribcage?
Every bra I find is either too tight around my chest or has gaping cups. I need a wired one as any others leave me looking completely flat-chested.
Any suggestions of shops or online retailers would be greatly appreciated!

Not a chance, I'm like two fried eggs on a plate! Might have a measure later on though, I only even got up to a D right at the end of my pregnancy!

innocentinfamy · 27/05/2016 20:06

Witch me too! only my yolks have slid to the bottom BlushGrin

Can't see how I could possibly have enough volume to fill an E cup, but shall trust in Statistically's skills and try some wrangling as per her instructions

n0ne · 28/05/2016 14:37

Just bought a 34F (prev 36D!) as they didn't have a 32G. Fits so much better than old size and my boobs look amazing! €85 lighter, though - jeez :/ Where to get big/weird sizes for a decent price?!

TwuntingCat · 28/05/2016 16:04

n0ne try brastop you can normally get some good deals on there.

It's because of the approach M&S use. They add 4 inches to your band size before calculating the cup - and it can be more than 4 as they tend to measure loosely and they add 5 if you measure an odd number. So let's say that if you measured tightly your underbust was 30". M&S might measure this as 31". Then they add 5" - so you're up to a 36 band. They measure your overbust and it's actually 34 or something. Result is they tell you you are "smaller than an a cup"

If you take those same measurements on the new system you get a 30D. Cup size is proportional to band size, so a 30D does NOT have the same amount of boob as a 36D. Roughly, a 30D, 32C, 34B, 36A have about the same volume of breast tissue just in a different shape. You wouldn't think someone saying they're a 36A had huge boobs but because of the way the press portrays bra sizing then a 30D sounds big.

Have a look at the bra band project which shows women in correctly fitting bras. I've linked to the 30D bt you can change sizes - as you can see a 30D when fitted properly is definitely not large breasted.

Lovely bra ladies, are you still around? This thread has blown my mind and would love your help please. I am currently wearing rather unattractive and unsupportive 40C/42C nursing bras, my breasts are rather bottom heavy and sometimes slip under the band and I have no cleavage to speak of so I know I must be in the wrong size 😔

I only have a cm tape measure and came up with:
Tight under bust 96cm (38 in?)
Loose over bust 122cm (48 in?)

What would you recommend to try?
Thanks!

Lweji · 30/05/2016 05:28

You're clearly in the wrong size.
The band is probably better in a 38, but the cup is way off. For the 38 band it will probably be around a GG, but for a 40 it would still be around an FF/G.
Because of your breast shape, you may well find that full cups don't fill on top, so lower cups or softer cups probably work better. It's a matter of trying them. You can go to a good shop like Bravissimo to get a feel for what suits you and what you should look for, and then order online if you prefer.

BTW, a 38 will probably feel tight, but with the right cup it can actually be more comfortable.

lullaby23 · 30/05/2016 06:42

Thanks lweji it seems insane that I would need such a big cup Shock
Unfortunately I live overseas so no bravissimo but will order a few and return for the time being until I'm back in the summer.

Taylorandnicolesmummy · 30/05/2016 19:48

31/38, would I start with 32E?

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 30/05/2016 19:58

Try that and 30F and thereabouts.

Taylorandnicolesmummy · 30/05/2016 20:29

That's shocking!! Thanks will give them a go 😂

TheWitchwithNoName · 31/05/2016 18:59

OK, if anyone is still around I'm a 29/30.5-31...still an A or have I creeped over to a B?!

marriednotdead · 31/05/2016 19:39

Witch, don't be scared to try both- am assuming you're going for a 30 band? Cup shape is almost as important in order to get a flattering fit.

purpleviolet1 · 31/05/2016 19:41

Can someone please help??

This thread has opened my eyes. I've only ever been fitted at Marks and Sparks.

My measurements are :
32 under bust
37 when leaning forward (over lowest part)

I'm currently wearing 34C

StatisticallyChallenged · 31/05/2016 19:53

Start with a 32DD

purpleviolet1 · 31/05/2016 20:22

Is it more about what 'feels' right? They always say it's important to wear the right size.

Lweji · 31/05/2016 20:28

The right size is important, but it's not an M&S size. Grin

The breasts should be supported by the band primarily, so adding to it does nothing for support and leaves it all to the straps, thus the band ridding up the back and shoulder marks.

As for the cups, if you try with a fitting t-shirt it should be obvious if any breast tissue is bulging.

And scoop. :)

TheWitchwithNoName · 31/05/2016 20:47

I'm wearing old stretched 32A sized bras at the moment and they are feeling really tight, so to measure as a 29 is very odd! I need padding so maybe a B cup will mean the wires are more comfortable. I'll have to try a few on I guess Smile

Makemineacabsauv · 05/06/2016 11:16

Help!! Measured myself -37" under boobs and 46" at biggest (boobs hanging down( - anyone able to tell me what size I am please?!!

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/06/2016 11:30

Start with a 36G/GG and a 38FF/G

Makemineacabsauv · 06/06/2016 21:01

Thank you!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 30/06/2016 14:21

Quick update

Finally got fitted at the Triumph shop, I've gone from 38a to 32DD!

Statistically was absolutely right Smile Flowers

Pinkypie78 · 18/07/2016 18:48

I found this amazing thread from searching 38 a bra on Google as never seen one in shops have mostly worn a 34a since my first bra as a teen (I'm 38 now) and then changed to 36a as 34 was too tight I've tried a b cup but it gapes and if I lean forward everything is exposed, 36 is just too tight digging in like crazy so I thought I must need a 38 but after reading this post I have measured myself at a 32 under bust and a 38 at fullest part, so what size would that make?

bluebiro · 18/07/2016 19:48

Pinkypie78 Is the 38" measured when you were leaning forward? If so, then 32E as a starting point. Make sure you "scoop" as this makes a massive difference (it's described here: thebetterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk/p/fitting-advice.html).

When the cup size is too small, then there is not enough of the cup to cover the boobs and so they "steal" fabric from the band. This is probably why the 34A felt too tight. You need a big enough cup and then a firm-fitting band to give you support.

RavioliOnToast · 18/07/2016 20:21

I was wearing a 46b, after being bra fitted I am now a 38F
