hello and welcome!

OP posts:
StatisticallyChallenged · 03/07/2013 13:28

majealist start with 34d. rubber ewa are a bit hit and miss but I wear my normal size and it's largely fine. If anything some run a little small in cup so I would not size down

StatisticallyChallenged · 03/07/2013 13:28

sorry 38d

MadBusLady · 03/07/2013 13:30

Should that have been "start with 38D" statistically, or have I been misunderstanding this whole intervention thing all along?

MadBusLady · 03/07/2013 13:30

Ah phew Smile

LaydeeJayne · 03/07/2013 13:59

Just coming back on with yet another thank you. After reading this and some of the other bra threads I decided to have a measure and surprise, surprise I am not a 36c but in fact a 30dd/e.

Today I am wearing my new Bravissimo bra in a 30dd and it is lovely and comfy Grin (off to order a couple of pairs of matching knickers now!) I am still a bit shocked that a) the band is not horribly too tight b) I am a dd cup!! Thrilled.

I wonder why so many women have been wearing the wrong size for such a long time though? Are M&S and co to blame do you think?

RubberBullets · 03/07/2013 14:36

Yes they are to blame. Years and years of deliberately fitting women in the wrong size bras has led to most women not knowing what a properly fitting bra looks and feels like. If you are constantly told something is right by what most people perceive to be a reputable firm then you can't be blamed for believing it

CalamityKate · 03/07/2013 17:46

I think I'd been squeezing into my too tight bras partly because I thought it made my boobs look bigger.
Needless to say now they're supported properly instead of smooshed together they look bigger, especially from the side!

gattsy · 03/07/2013 22:36

Please help, measure 32 and 40. What sizes would you suggest I try, currently wearing 34 d

marriednotdead · 03/07/2013 22:39

I'd start with a 32FF gattsy, but be prepared to try cups that are slightly bigger or smaller (F and G) too.

gattsy · 03/07/2013 23:00

Sorry completely new to this is, but do I try 32f and 32g

marriednotdead · 04/07/2013 03:42

Your best bet is to go to a department store (not M&S!) that has a good range of sizes. Choose a bra that has all 3 sizes mentioned available in that style and take them to try on. Start with the middle size (32FF) and assess from there.

This blog has helpful advice.

Billycat · 04/07/2013 13:26

Am just returning to thank Madbuslady and co for their help.I am now happily in my 32F nursing bra instead of sagging in my old 36DD. I feel somewhat evangelical about this now!

RubberBullets · 04/07/2013 13:29

Out of interest, what nursing bra did you go for Billycat?

Sheshelob · 04/07/2013 13:30

Ok, I am now boob-obsessed.

I didn't have a tape measure so used a belt and measured it on a ruler.

I am currently wearing a 36A.

My measurements are 30.5 (UB) and 37.5 (OB).

That makes me either a 30F or a 32E, right?

How can this be?!?! I can be described as many things, but busty ain't one of them.

I've got this wrong, right? Or my post-baby pitta boobs are sagging beyond their volume?

Oh, sacred boob guru, please answer my plea!

Smile
StatisticallyChallenged · 04/07/2013 13:37

a 30f or 30ff most likely yes. on a 30 back a ff really is not the monster boobs it sounds like

HollyHopDrive · 04/07/2013 13:42

Could I have some bra advice please? I bought a few Curvy Kate bras on amazon (they were really good prices in comparison to brastop) and they're a mixed bag! I'm a 30G in Freya Deco, and I only have of these and I think they're a bit too stretched out now as I'm constantly re-jigging my boobs into place.

One of the bras - CK smoothie was quite rigid and on the base of the cup my boobs weren't sitting in the cup and pulling ridges into the bra, though at the back there was plenty of room, if I go to a 32 they just ride up. Is it a body shape thing or was the back/cup too small?

Also, how are half cup styles supposed to fit? One bra, the Entice was a great fit in the back but nips almost poking out!

Any other ideas what kind of bras I can go for? I'm definitely bottom heavy in shape, and a bit deflated having had and fed 2 children!

sheshelob we sound similar, I am not busty by any means either!

Forgetfulmog · 04/07/2013 13:44

Aha I've found you! Was searching for this thread the other day & couldn't find it!

Ok, now I've found you please could you lovely ladies help me as I am completely confused!

Ok, measured myself using that bra page link & my measurements are: 29" underbust & 37" bust - what bra size would you say that is? I thought it could be anything between a 28f & 30ff

I am bf but dd is 10 mo & I refuse to buy another nursing bra as they're all hideous. I was thinking of buying a normal bra & hoiking the boobage out for feeds. I really like look of the soft-cup Freya Deco bra - has anyone had any experiences with this one?

TIA all! Smile

Sheshelob · 04/07/2013 13:49

Thank you SO much!

Ever since I found your thread, I have been very aware of how ill fitting my bras are.

And now, thanks to you, I am Boobs McGee!

SorrelForbes · 04/07/2013 14:09

HollyHopDrive The Smoothie sounds as if it's too small in the cup. It's called the 'Orange in a Glass' effect.

Half cups can be quite low and don't tend to cover much. I like the Fauve half cups which are good under scoop neck tops. TBH though, I love that 'cakes on a plate' look. Just call me Marie Antoinette! It sounds like the Entice is too small in the cup as well.

CK bras often come up big in the band and small in the cup. I'm usually a 30GG but would probably have a 28/30 H at least in a CK.

SorrelForbes · 04/07/2013 14:13

Forgetfulmog Yep, try a 28G, 28FF, 30FF and a 30F.

I haven't worn a soft cup bra since I was 13 so I can't help with advice on the Freya Deco. However, I do know that it's very difficult to get the same fit as with a wired bra. For example, it's very hard to get the central gore to lie flat between your boobs. It's fine to wear wires when breastfeeding, just make sure the cups/wires are fitting correctly and not sitting on breast tissue.

SorrelForbes · 04/07/2013 14:15

Sheshelob God news indeed!

As *Stats& says, an F on a 30 back is not large at all. I 'intervened' a neighbour/friend yesterday. She measures 30.5 and 34 so should be a 30D. She ended up with a Cleo Bonnie balconette in a 30DD and a Ballet Satin Plunge in a 30F!

KnittedC · 04/07/2013 19:04

Hello everyone!

So I finally opened one of these bra threads and had a look at that blog, as I need some new nursing bras. I measured myself and was so incredulous with the suggested size that I took myself off to Bravissimo to double check get fitted.

I had been wearing a 40C as measured by M&S. I walked out of the shop with two new bras in a size 32FF!!!

I can't believe how different these new, well fitting bras feel. I also can't believe that little old me, who was wearing an A cup before I got pregnant (probably wrong too), has got FF sized norks.

And it's all thanks to Mumsnet Grin

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/07/2013 19:14

Blooming heck, a 40 to a 32. I do love M&S's bonkers fitting approach!

That is why we are getting so annoyed - it's not a little bit out, one back size or one cup size. It's miles and miles and miles and miles and miles out!

KnittedC · 04/07/2013 19:26

And I was wearing my 40C on the widest setting too. Got the impression from the fitter that M&S have form for this, and certainly seems so from these threads.

StatisticallyChallenged · 04/07/2013 19:48

Yup, a few of us mystery shopped them for the blog. On average, they were 3-4 back sizes up, and about 5 or 6 cup sizes too small.
