hello and welcome!

OP posts:
WhirlyByrd · 27/06/2013 20:16

This sounds melodramatic, but I am so uncomfortable every day that it's making me grumpy!

sparkle12mar08 · 27/06/2013 20:28

I think we need to klaxon married for you Whirly, she's a whizz with bra styles and fitting so I'm sure she'd have something helpful for you.

marriednotdead · 27/06/2013 20:59

Evening all, thanks for the klaxon Smile

Two issues seem to be at play here.

The rolling/flipping/folding is usually down to squishiness of torso. If positioning the band lower on your back doesn't help, options are to either try a style that has a piece of extra boning (transam to use the technical term) in the side panel, which is what it's designed for.
The other is to choose a brand and/or style with a wider underband. The brands I've found best for that are Panache and Elomi.

Cups. Are your boobs mainly forward or are they set wider so that they merge with fleshy areas under your arms? Are they full/pert or quite soft/empty?

Sorry if the questions seem uber personal- you can PM me if you don't wish to share here.

The type of style you need will vary depending on your answers.

WhirlyByrd · 27/06/2013 21:47

Thank you ladies - married you have mail as I don't want to horrify MN with descriptions of my norkage!

marriednotdead · 27/06/2013 21:59

If only you could see what I see every day Grin

WhirlyByrd · 27/06/2013 22:32

Good job I'm not in the dating market - it's not made me sound very appealing!

SeaWave · 28/06/2013 00:18

Just wanted to say thankyou for this thread. Haven't seen all teh messages but looked at the link to proper fitting. Last time was in M&S I was measured at 40E/dd using teh method I found 36GG best for me. M&S are currently offering you a £5 discount on lingerie if you get fitted, so obvious the nation has stopped getting fitted!
I think they were so keen to get me on a DD coup with a bigger band is that most of their styles only go to DD so if they measure you bigger, you have to shop elsewhere!

SorrelForbes · 28/06/2013 08:30

Seawave you have hit the nail on the head there IMHO. I'm a 30GG and M&S fitted me as a 36/8D. Lots of bras in their stores in that size.

RubberBullets · 28/06/2013 09:34

I'm 36K and M&S fit me as 40E

PassTheTwiglets · 28/06/2013 13:38

married, re. your PM, I've temporarily put a pic up on my profile of the new size Melrose bra. It's a 34J but is very tight indeed on the loosest setting (I know they are supposed to be tight but this really feels too tight). I feel far more comfortable in a 36. But, oh horror or horrors, I think even the J cup looks too small! If I got a 36J, would the cup size be bigger?

I also love the sound of the Panache Jasmine from reading this thread and wonder if that's worth a go. I am very wobbly at the top of my boobs and wonder if the stretchy lace at the top of the cup might hold that in a bit?

IShallCallYouSquishy · 28/06/2013 17:18

Bra ladies I LOVE YOU!

After finally getting my breast back to normal after breastfeeding I've been wearing my pre-pregnancy bras that make my boobs saggy, unsupported, double boob syndrome, the lot. I was wearing a range from 32C to 36D.

I measured myself using your method and went shopping this afternoon. I'm now sat in a 32EE bra that fits me amazingly! It's comfortable, my boobs feel supported, the band is actually against my chest with my boobs separated and fully enclosed in the cup. My clothes look better over the top. Everything is just perfect! I got just 2 for now but will get myself some more and start having a nice bras that fit me collection.

I've been hanging on to to some 34C bras from years ago that I think I was kidding myself about ever fitting. Wonder if charity shop takes bras? Some have hardly been worn (bought by a very thoughtful DH that I squeezed in to but never actually fit me)

THANK YOU!

marriednotdead · 28/06/2013 22:26

Twiglets You have mail Smile

IShallCallYouSquishy

Well done on finding a bra that fits. But what is this mythical size EE? Doesn't exist in the UK.

Charity shops will happily take bras.

msshapelybottom · 29/06/2013 07:54

I just want to thank you ladies for this thread. I have been lurking on various "interventions" all the while thinking to myself "how lovely those women are getting sorted with their bras"...I didn't even consider that I might be wearing the wrong size till I measured yesterday.

I am currently wearing a 32c, which has been feeling increasingly tight under the band and uncomfortable all over.

I measure 31 under my bust, and 39 if I bend over. I did the mad scooping thing this morning and almost my entire chest hangs out...from underneath the nipple up. I get the "ear muff" comment from a previous post now Grin

So, I am off to Debenhams this morning to try on some bras. (the only place near me which will have the sizes I need) My breathing feels constricted in my current bra so I am thinking I will try more 32s, in maybe F & FF.

I have always had small boobs but recently they seem to be growing (Age thing? I'm 38 now) and I just can't imagine my chest will fit in one of those enormous bras!

Will report back, but thank you for helping me realise I've been squashing myself up till now!

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/06/2013 07:59

ms dont rule out the 30s. The cup is much too small in your current 32 so you can't judge based on that as the cups will be stealing fabric from the back. try 30G, 30FF, 32F and 32FF

IShallCallYouSquishy · 29/06/2013 09:05

married the EE was a typo, oops! It's just a plain old E. Finger must have got over enthusiastic. Must proof read before posting Blush

msshapelybottom · 29/06/2013 09:12

Statistically, thank you. EEEK! Those bra sizes seem to alien in respect of my boobs that I can hardly imagine they will fit...but I have written your suggestions down to take with me.

I've been wearing a JML bra recently which does nothing support wise, just makes me look a little less "naked" or squashing myself into one of my 32c, so it is with great excitement that I go shopping!

momofgirls · 29/06/2013 11:26

Please could you check with these measurements correct bra size. Currently wearing 34F have slight asymmetry the right slightly larger. Breast tend to splay outwards and the gore does sit close between cups.
Measurement around rib cage 33 inch over bust bending forward 46 inch. Bravissimo have measured in the past 34F and 34G. Favour fantasie bras but other recommendations welcomed

Thanks

msshapelybottom · 29/06/2013 11:42

Ok, I am back home having tried on several bras, the size that seemed to fit best in the shop was 32F. I bought 2 and put one straight on in the shopping centre loos...

Now I'm home though, I don't think it's as good a fit as I first thought. I chose this bra...

www.debenhams.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10052_10001_150010532886_-1

and I can see now that I'm home that the top (lacy part) of the cup is wrinkling (I have sort of tear dropped shaped breasts...fuller at the bottom than the top and one side a bit smaller) and I have discovered that the bra was sliding down my torso a little on the loosest setting. I have fastened it on the tightest hook (I shouldn't have been in such a rush to take the tags off!) and it feels a lot better. The cup on the left (bigger side) is full when I bend over and scoop, but when I stand up it wrinkles a bit.

On the plus side, there is absolutely NO back fat now, although there is a tiny bit under my armpit, and my boobs are such a lovely shape that I can't stop looking at them.

I did try on a couple of 30s...a 30FF & 30GG and the sides seemed to go very far up and they just felt wrong, that's why I plumped for the 32.

I wonder if a half cup style or balconette might suit better?

I would be so grateful for any thoughts you might have.

msshapelybottom · 29/06/2013 11:42

www.debenhams.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10052_10001_150010532886_-1

Proper link, sorry.

StatisticallyChallenged · 29/06/2013 13:10

ok...debenhams gorgeous runs small in the back so I suspect that in most other brands like Freya, cleo panache or curvy Kate you would be a solid 30. The underarm digging is probably style issue so try some balconettes as they tend to be lower. It could also be size shock as I suspect that your old bras were no where near there so the skib just won't be used to it

SorrelForbes · 29/06/2013 13:11

That could well be a style issue although it does sound like a 30 back might be a better fit (in this particular bra at least). I prefer half cup and balconette styles myself and am in love with the Panache Idina (as recommended by marriednotdead)

msshapelybottom · 29/06/2013 14:37

Sorrel, thank you! I actually went back to the shop and returned the 2nd bra I had bought and tried on a few more.

It was boiling in the fitting rooms and I managed to try 3 before I got a bit sweaty (yuck! and not good for trying on bras...!)

the one which fitted best was this one in 30G:

www.debenhams.ie/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10052_10001_150010824586_-1

Although the sides didn't come up very far and there was underarm fat squashing out and back fat as well. I think what I need is a very wide band and high cups at the side but not a full cup...does such a bra exist?!

I'm going to sew a little stitch in my current 32F to join the upper lacy part of the cups together, this stops the wrinkling issue. Otherwise it's a lot comfier than my old bras, and cruicially, NO breathing issues Grin

Thank you for the input, this bra malarky is complicated!

msshapelybottom · 29/06/2013 14:39

ps. Will continue my search online from now on...will check out that panache Idina, thank you!

msshapelybottom · 29/06/2013 14:42

Statistically, thank you too! Great advice. I am going to stick to 30 back in different styles now.

CalamityKate · 29/06/2013 14:51

Help! Ever since my boob job I've been in a 36DD but I measured under my bust today and it was 34 and did the leaning over thing and the fullest part measured 42!!

Which makes me, well, massive doesnt it??
