Calling all HOC winters.....

QueenCadbury · 21/04/2013 09:21

So, I had my colours done yesterday and I am now a sprinter winter. My best colours being royal blue, electric blue, damson, lagoon blue and light emerald.

Of course a shopping trip is now required Grin so I'm just after any inspiration by what you fellow winters have recently bought...

Queen - they've got emerald green cardis in again at TU Sainsburys. Problem is that they've used gilt buttons, so you would need to change these. I also spotted a nice emerald loose knit jumper and some tapered trousers in a darker emerald. Was very good and didn't buy anything though.

QueenCadbury · 26/07/2013 13:19

Thanks mad. I was in sainsburys on Monday and didn't see anything there and I don't intend going near a supermarket again for 6 weeks-it'll be Internet shopping instead of dragging 3 kids around!

Been into sainsburys today and they've got a lovely pine green tea dress but has got a cream sprigy pattern on it. Does that make it a no? There weren't any green cardi's tho :(

Have go fuchsia pink nails tho now!!

MadAboutHotChoc · 27/07/2013 13:58

How dominant is the cream?

Neena28 · 27/07/2013 14:27

It's not majorly dominant but its obviously patterned, if that makes any sense?

morethanpotatoprints · 27/07/2013 14:36

I found my season from a book called colour me beautiful and it cost a couple of quid.
It just gave you a season but didn't elaborate on anything more than that.
I am winter and can wear Red (not orange based) black, jade, and all the bright true colours, not muted.
Silver, taupe (is the only brown) that suits me, white, and navy.
How is it split further, i.e I have heard people saying jewel, sprinter etc.

QueenCadbury · 27/07/2013 14:37

neena I'm quite fussy now so it would be a no from me if it's a definate cream. Or could it be stone?

morethan - with a full HoC analysis (not sure about CMB as they use a different system), each one of your season colour is given a rating from double stars to one tick and also they assess as to how much of the colour you can wear (from 100% to 25%). Your double starred 100% colours decide what sub season you are.

Neena - I will have a look for the dress next time I go shopping and let you know what I think (if its in my local store)

morethanpotatoprints · 27/07/2013 21:44

Thank you MadAbout

I bet the sub groups are really interesting and shows how colour analysis has come on since the days of CMB.
I found that a few of the winter colours were ok or even good, but others were excellent.
I feel like having mine done properly now, but can't justify the price as I have a hobby with an annual subscription of £100.
However, I am reading this thread with interest Thanks

MadAboutHotChoc · 28/07/2013 07:42

HoC have always used the stars and ticks system but the idea of naming each sub season is a more recent thing.

For me personally, the expense has been worth it and has saved me ££ in mistake purchases as well as time and effort when shopping.

Neena28 · 28/07/2013 08:05

In hindsight I've decided against the sainsburys dress. I've got this information on what suits and its a real miss in all category's bar the base colour. The cream sprig is too ditsy for me from a style point of view, ditto the flowy tea dress stress. Infact I'm not even sure the base green is clear enough if that makes sense or whether it was a bit too wishy washy.

My first this isn't right and I know what is so shall walk away!!! Thanks ladies! Will be interested to her your thoughts about it if anyone sees it tho.

I also think the £99 colour analysis is well worth it, even if it isn't all crystal clear immediately as it hasn't been for me. The wallet alone with all the ticks and stars helps a lot plus the make up info if your make up is totally wrong for you.

Keztrel · 31/07/2013 08:51

Hi all, just popping back to report on my Boden haul, as QueenC asked about it up thread. The pine green Skye jumper is a great colour but rubbish shape, far too wide (I love short boxy jumpers but it's ridiculous). The iris cashmere crew neck is a nice colour but doesn't look that good on me for some reason - the bright blues in my palette aren't my best colours, so maybe that's why. Its also v big. The everyday button back jumper is a bit shapeless and meh and the purple is on the dull side as predicted. But I adore the spotty grey button back merino jumper! Great fit, slightly slouchy but not too much, and a v flattering grey.

MadAboutHotChoc · 31/07/2013 09:16

Thanks for the Boden report - what a blow re the skye jumper, I had a feeling it would be quite boxy so held back from ordering it. I love grey but have so much of it already and need to experiment with other colours.

Keztrel · 31/07/2013 09:57

I know, Skye jumper looks so lovely in pics! But the wool doesnt even feel that nice either :( Still at least I haven't spent too much. Though I did just order the merino crew in navy based on the great reviews its getting here...

Keztrel · 31/07/2013 09:58

Mad you could try the printed button back in red - it looks a true red to me. Of course, you might look like a ladybird...

MadAboutHotChoc · 31/07/2013 10:31

Grin not too keen on the ladybird look!

The 15% code & free P&P have expired so will wait for it to come up again I am a bit skint at the moment!

I am in London next week so will pop into Uniqlo to have a look at their knitwear - some of the colours on their website are hard to see and I hope to pick up a couple of merino jumpers then.

Keztrel · 31/07/2013 11:13

Ooh winters, I think this Topshop t shirt is kind of cool. Not my style but definitely great winter colours and good dramatic print!

Levantine · 31/07/2013 12:04

Uniqlo has some good slouchy looking jumpers c£20 in winter colours - a blue, damson, fuschia. Not amazing fabric, but great colours and not expensive. Can't see them online though. Also, modal t shirts in good winter colours too.

Levantine · 31/07/2013 12:07

Just had another look. This is the t shirt, I got it in purple and black

www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/079900

I think this is the jumper though colours are much nicer in real life

www.uniqlo.com/uk/store/goods/078919

MadAboutHotChoc · 31/07/2013 12:19

The topshop t shirt would be great for a winter into that kind of style.

The uniqlo jumpers look promising, thanks Levantine Smile

QueenCadbury · 31/07/2013 13:28

Thanks keztrel. I don't bother too much with boden as I find the sizes/shapes all over the place. I definately won't bother now Grin.

I'm going to login in october and looking forward to checking out uniqlo as I don't have one near and as you say their knitwear looks promising. A friend did check out the green cardigan for me and it's not emerald!

According to grazia, bright regal blues and grey are the colours of AW!

Hello again winters. Just thought I'd post something so that we don't lose our thread.

ANy winters got their eye on anything for autumn/winter?

OP posts:
ItsNotUnusualToBe · 05/08/2013 21:24

Green Cardigan

Not a fan of Next usually but this colour is spot on for me as a sultry winter.

NewNameForNewTerm · 05/08/2013 21:25

I popped into Debenhams and noticed lots of my colours in Betty Jackson. Black section. I was in a hurry, so I didn't spend long and when I looked online it didn't look as impressive, but there seemed lots of black, purple and green. I'll take a closer look when I go back on Saturday and report if I see anything worthwhile.

QueenCadbury · 05/08/2013 21:46

itsnot I'm not sure how I missed that as I thought I'd done a very thorough search for a green cardi!

I haven't had a chance to get to any real shops yet and I haven't seen a huge amount online that's inspired me. Still, it's only August, plenty of time yet Grin
