Grin

How did we finish the other thread so fast...? Less than a month.

Thanks for hugs, wine and flowers, much appreciated here.

DH coping ok, I keep texting to remind him to uncross his legs and wiggle his toes. Mum's mince exactly hit the spot. Dd and I cuddled and watched veg-out TV together and we may have had a touch of chocolate Blush

DD was picked to play cricket for the school, which cheered DH up more than anything else could have done. Only wish I could tell colleague who recently died, he'd have been similarly delighted (his funeral ended with the theme from Test Match Special).

hattymattie · 10/05/2013 08:37

alto - I can only imagine how stressful that must be for you and your DH. Wishing him a speedy and full recovery. Grinat Test Match Special.

You're going to have to link to these houses Ruby - then we can follow every detail -and give our communal approval-

Blackduck · 10/05/2013 10:43

I have decided I want a recording of the shipping forecast at my funeral (I am not a sailor) I have fond memories of hearing it on a sunday and found it magical and soothing at the same time :)
Dogger, falling slowly, and all that..

wilbur · 10/05/2013 15:40

Alto - hope dh continues to improve. If he can face it, Comfey tea or extract is really good for healing after orthopedic type operations. Its other name is "knit bone" and I have a friend who swears it helped massively following several ops to repair a badly smashed ankle. Well done your dd - it is lovely when they make a team.

Ruby - with teenagers, I like the sound of a smaller garden that's sheltered from the wind - you can sit outside whenever it's sunny and leave them to fester inside. But then I am a delicate flower and hate wind...

hattymattie · 10/05/2013 16:15

Hey BD - I asked some people about the Shipping Forecast recently and I quoted "Tyne, Dogger, Fischer, German Bite". They looked at me like I was completely bonkers. Grin I also have fond memories.

hattymattie · 10/05/2013 16:16

I was particularly fascinated by German Bite Hmm

QueenQueenie · 10/05/2013 16:20

Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery Mr Alto.
Happy weekends everyone...
Am waiting for ds1 to return from doing battle with his gsce maths exam.

herbaceous · 10/05/2013 16:24

It was always intriguing when they'd say 'storm force 10, rising to 11. Rain heavy. Visibility moderate to good.' How the blazes can you see out in a force 10 storm on the sea?

I think it's German Bight.

QueenQueenie · 10/05/2013 16:27

oh and yes to loving shipping forecast... it's the rhythmic nonsense sound of it I think.

...Humber Thames Dover Wight...

QueenQueenie · 10/05/2013 16:28

pssst. It is Herbs (but didn't like to say).
Beachy? have been lurking on GCSE thread. How is your dd doing??

hattymattie · 10/05/2013 16:30

Quite Possibly BD Grin. I'm just glad I'm not a sailor that's all - speaking as one who cannot manage a rough Dover/Calais crossing.

Good luck to all exam sitters.

motherinferior · 10/05/2013 16:31

Hello and good wishes to all Grin

CointreauVersial · 10/05/2013 18:25

Bah! Strong smell of burning plastic pervaded the house last night, and we woke to a completely dead boiler. We managed to get someone over this afternoon to rig up our disconnected immersion heater with an extension lead, so at least we now have hot water, but fixing the boiler is going to cost £350+. We Are Not Amused.

Wow ruby!ShockSmileFlowers

Blackduck · 10/05/2013 21:26

Wows rubes I'm guessing A or the one your builder gave you a crafty look at?

For all shipping forecast enthusiasts dogger but not the voice I recall...

alto1 · 10/05/2013 22:39

Well done Ruby, I think when you've been looking hard and got your eye in, the right house sort of jumps out at you, it did for us. Hope it all goes smoothly.

Got my DH in bed beside me, comfortably dosed up on morphine and looking remarkably pink and healthy considering what was done to him only 36 hrs ago Smile
Otoh my younger brother has rung to say he's been admitted to hospital in acute heart failure Sad. Had an infarct 3 yrs ago, hasn't really followed medical advice since, works far too hard. Outlook not good. Have very much diluted the message to Mum.

Dd happy and gorgeous though. Relieved to have her Dad home, enjoyed fish and chips and crap tv and daftness with ddog this evening Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 10/05/2013 22:58

Alto - wishing your DH a speedy recovery. But very sorry to hear the news about your brother.

CointreauVersial · 11/05/2013 00:34

Wow, Ruby, looking forward to more details, and well done to your DH.

Alto - Sad about your DB.

I really must go to bed - I have to drive up to Warwick tomorrow to visit DSM in hospital (out of danger, thank goodness), but I can't leave the immersion heater on all night, so I'm staying up as late as possible in the hope that we'll get hot showers tomorrow. I'm leaving DH at home with a boiler engineer.

Gosh, I take an early night (literally in bed at 8.30pm) and tonnes of posts.

Alto, I'm sorry to hear about your brother. Wishes for a speedy recovery for him and your dh.

Queenie, we had the first GCSE yesterday. I picked her up afterwards, but had four Y 7's in the car as well, all boys, who broke into spontaneous applause when she got in the car, which brought a smile.Grin Other than that, I think the build up and associated adrenalin will probably lead to a bit of a downer over the next couple of days. Will watch carefully!

Ruby, WOW... So exciting. Hope it all progresses smoothly.

Happy weekend to all. Lots of delivering and collecting today then dh off to rugby sevens tomorrow with DS...

Blackduck · 11/05/2013 07:44

Alto sorry to hear about your brother.
Ruby - you have let the side down, where was all the angst and trauma? I got to about house g didn't I? Wink
