How did we finish the other thread so fast...? Less than a month.

OP posts:
Stropperella · 03/05/2013 09:26

I went through Checkpoint Charlie in 1986, on my way to Moscow (flew from Berlin Schönefeld). It was a leetle bit intimidating, as I recall.

Blackduck · 03/05/2013 11:18

I went to Berlin aged 12 (so think 70s) with my mum (my dad was based in West Germany) and did the whole Check Point Charlie (fascinating museum), tour of East Berlin etc. Would love to go back!

MI - enjoy, and the comission can wait...

motherinferior · 03/05/2013 11:20

Am at Gatwick clutching duty free mascara. Am in love with the nice young man at the Coop bank who sorted out last-minute trauma about exchange and card. Will never be rude about smart phones againGrin

QueenQueenie · 03/05/2013 12:51

It's a beautiful day here in Norf London, am feeling very pleased to have survived my rather demanding week and all is generally well with the world. Can't believe how prolific you lot were with the posts yesterday, it's taken me an age to catch up.
Very jealous MI of berlin trip. DS1 went with school on history trip last Autumn ans thought it was Fab. Enjoy.

Dh, ds2 and ddog off to Suffolk for the weekend leaving me here with GCSE taking ds1 Hmm. i do feel rather self sacrificing and martyrish as would much rather be lounging about there and don't suppose ds1 will do much more than grunt at me and demand meals. Am planning to take him to see new Almodovar film for some light relief, if he can tear himself away from the Cold War (History on Monday).

Lovely weekends to all of you.

Blackduck · 03/05/2013 12:56

Don't you mean Tuesday QQ?
Do you have a cottage or something in Norfolk?

Yes good (long) weekend all...

QueenQueenie · 03/05/2013 13:40

Hi BD, yes i did mean History GCSE on TUESDAY! Let's hope he's more on the ball than I am or it's not going to end well...

We do have somewhere in suffolk and go there as much as we can. In fact we're so dull that we hardly ever go anywhere else on holiday, ever! Poor dcs will be on a very steep learning curve when they go off exploring the world on their own!

Blackduck · 03/05/2013 13:47

ah a house in the country - nice ......
I want a house by the sea.

Well good luck QQs ds (and anyone elses dcs who are in the throws of exams.)

herbaceous · 03/05/2013 13:47

Lovely Islington square, and a little somewhere in Suffolk...

hattymattie · 03/05/2013 13:48

Good luck to those doing (what I still call O levels).

Off to Provence tomorrow - hope to be basking in sunshine for a week.

We are having very late easter holidays here.

Berlin, Provence, Suffolk Envy

But at least it is sunny here and the weekend forecast looks OK!

ruby, house sounds hopeful, but not love at first sight?

Oooh Ruby, I love a bit of house viewing. How exciting. Lovely radiators sounds a good start.

Can I just point out I'm NOT going to be living it up in Suffolk. Any Envy to be directed towards dh not me.
As you were...

herbaceous · 03/05/2013 14:45

London is just lovely in this weather though, isn't it. And everything's so GREEN.

I was very taken with Forest Hill after my liaison with BTM. I even looked it up on Right Move! But it's marginally more pricey than where we are, and I doubt I'd ever winkle DP south of the river.

I've got a nice, Lahndahn-based weekend coming up. Singing at the South Bank tomorrow, lunch at friend's house in Pimlico tomorrow (with possible visit to Tate to view art, or in fact to chase DS from room to room), then to a may fair on Monday with friends back for 'cold table' and cava.

bigTillyMint · 03/05/2013 14:54

Lovely radiatorsGrin

Herbs, Forest Hill is very good value for money ATM and some nice big houses.
Do you think your DS will entertain the art-viewers with his singing and dancing?!

Hope it's not sunny tomorrow as I will be cooking all day tomorrow as we have many friends coming over!

herbaceous · 03/05/2013 15:00

I'd have to live backing onto ? or, indeed, inside ? the Horniman Museum, and with no danger of bumping into my ex boyfriend who lives round there.

bigTillyMint · 03/05/2013 15:24

Some nice houses round the back of the Horniman with good views of London.

South London is very green - lots of lovely parks and commonsWink

QueenQueenie · 03/05/2013 15:39

Back off BTM, I need Herbs to stay in the Norf London Massive with me innit. We are sorely outnumbered on the crepey threads...

QueenQueenie · 03/05/2013 15:43

I just want to say that I am having one of those rare afternoons where all is truly enjoyable and to say how much I appreciate it. Lovely lovely weather, Leonard Cohen on the CD player, a spot of light MNing, peace and quiet, just me and dog in the house. What could be nicer?

Hope I'm not offending anyone who's having a difficult time, or making anyone feel nauseous with my gushingness (is that a word? MI?).

Blackduck · 03/05/2013 16:51

Oh god Ruby please don't remind me of the house a, house b thing - god I do so apologise for boring the arse off the lot of you last year......

I still drive past the one that got away and house a and think 'oh well' I also see a few and think 'lucky escape'...
Having no money it is pretty much a case of making do...

QQ gush all you like, I am Envy I am still in the office....

bigTillyMint · 03/05/2013 16:58

QQ, that's because Sarf London's on it, innit?

Just got in from work - chillin listening to Fat Freddys Drop. DD gone to Beyonce (via friends/chicken shop, etc) in her new bodycon dress, creepers and my old denim jacketGrin DS not back yet - hopefully not before 6Smile Peace and quiet here too!

herbaceous · 03/05/2013 17:04

I'm chillin in the kitchen, next to new double doors, v pleased we did the kitchen job. Despite various bits of unfinished, or shoddy, work.

I should be working, but have just had to collect DS from nursery ad he has chickenpox. He seems perfectly fine, even rather e cited by the prospect.

QueenQueenie · 03/05/2013 17:19

Whatevs BTM.

Herbs Shock poor ds. Does he have lots of spots or v few? Ds1 had it really badly and it was horrid, while ds2 had a handful of spots and it was no big deal at all. Fingers xed for the latter.
If you are a homeopathy type of person rhus tox is the business. If he gets really itchy and uncomfortable put porridge oats in an old tights leg and give him an oatmeal bath...

herbaceous · 03/05/2013 17:21

At the mo he looks headed for scenario 2. Fingers crossed indeed!

Stropperella · 03/05/2013 17:26

It has been a productive, if knackering, week. I am about to embark on some mowing, having taken the dog to the vet for his yearly vac boosters, which he couldn't have last week because he was poorly. Then I am going to down a cold beer or two. Yum.

Life at this moment is goooood. Is v. important to enjoy the up moments whilst they are happening. So I have made sure that the beer supplies have been topped up. Grin

From next week I'm invigilating pretty much every day until half-term, so have a month off from my normal job. A change is as good as a rest an' all that.
