WWW's put a spring in your step 10 years younger plan - week 1

Or week 3 if you were already doing it on the other long thread. Sorry guys, I'm on dial up for a brief while and so I've started a new thread, I hope that's OK. The rules, again:

This is not a diet. Being happy is important so the odd drink or something that makes you happy, like chocolate, is ok. As is the odd night of being out with friends and drinking wine/Cosmopolitans/whatever
BUT aim to eat reasonably healthily with lots of fruit, vegetables and fish
Drink as much water as you can, ideally 2 litres a day
take your make up off every night
cut back on alcohol or be smug like me and give it up for a while - 14 days so far and I feel great on it
Walk as much as possible: take the stairs instead of the lift; park a bit further from the entrance to the shops/work; walk to speak to someone rather than email if it's reasonable etc.
Use sunscreen every day
And I think that's it

I have to say I feel great for no booze and for eating well although I'm not doing so well on the exercise front. I am thinking about getting up at 6am next week to walk for half an hour in the morning sun but I'm not sure I'll be able to do it. Maybe, we'll see.

Anyway, welcome oldsters (from the old thread and oldsters in need of a 10 years younger plan) and newbies, all welcome. :)

Not a bad day:

boiled egg and toast x 2 with Marmite
small apple juice
3 apples
a home made prawn sandwich with low cal mayo
a 107 cal cereal bar
a 250 cal Kit Kat
home made beef burgers from Fat Girl Slim with pepper and rocket salad
about 6 M&Ms, just found dh's secret sweet stash. Hmm, must forget I know where it is, I don't even like M&Ms but wanted chocolate

No exercise
Lots of water
have taken make up off
no booze

Suzywong, eww at the thought of Glos Old Spot. Well done Blackduck, yoyo, earlybird and welcome back TaiTai.

Hello to all old and new. And well done to all sticking to the path of Virtue, especially Winnie and WWW (btw how many pounds of apples do you get through a week??? Do you just lurve them or am I missing some magical property?)

I do actually always use suncream, have only slept in my make-up about twice in my life, cleanse and moisturise every day and still have crap skin. Still, I have cheek bones . But am still sticking to the hardcore route, although my willpower is very low tonight. Sorry but being very virtuous is no bloody fun a lot of the time. Bah humbug.

Callmemadam · 04/05/2006 21:07

Can someone please say well done as I have managed 3 days with no wine for the first time in years (other than when in hospital etc) Blush and I am feeling very pleased with myself. I have discovered a dealcoholised wine in Sainsburys which I drink when dd is down and I am winding down on my own. This proves to me that its not the wine I want, its the habit of relaxing in that way when dh never gets back before 10.30pm Sad. Not quite so good on the food front as I had to have a brie and cranberry WHITE roll for lunch somewhere as only veggie option. Hey ho, tomorrow's Friday, though, and thats officially the end of the week............

WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 04/05/2006 21:15

Callmemadam, WELL DONE. It is hard giving up booze but I find it's fine when I've just got out of the habit, I'm sort of used to it now. I'm not sure I'll make it til the 8th July though but I'll try.

Moonshine, I like apples and I've been trying to eat them instead of chocolate/crap as they're low GI blah de blah so I have a bowl of them on my desk at work. No secret!

winnie · 04/05/2006 22:15

Callmemadam, well done :)

Moonshine, thankyou :)

I got up feeling dreadful. I am not sure why other than perhaps overtired. Couldn't do my morning exercises and was worried that I'd go off the tracks because routine broken (I am like that Blush ) However, kept with it and this evening did the exercises I missed this morning.

I have done some gardening today and made myself wear gloves (I only usually wear gardening gloves to protest self from brambles and the like). Wore sunscreen too. Drank 1.5 litres of water and have taken my make up off.Have had 9 portions of fruit & veg today which just seems greedy Blush

winnie · 04/05/2006 22:16

protect !

yoyo · 04/05/2006 23:39

Hangs head in shame. Didn't get to aquarobics as DH's meeting overran by an hour. Had a very good day but couldn't resist some Hill Station ice cream for pud and then drank a significant amount of wine. Three days off and back to no booze tomorrow. Honest.

monkeytrousers · 05/05/2006 11:25

Suzy Wong, where did you get that photo of my mother?! It's all in the genes they say, hehe

soyabean · 05/05/2006 12:58

have been enjoying the cycling, tho havent made it to the swimming pool since the weekend. Food not bad, tho couldnt resist rhubabrb crumble and cream last night: and a glass of wine at book group but that is much less than the usual 3!
Sunscreen, water all good.
Have a lovely weekend all

winnie · 05/05/2006 16:45

I am having a really good day again. I feel as if I am in the swing of things at the moment :)

kickassangel · 05/05/2006 20:55

Been a bit mixed this week - had a really good day yesterday, only 1200 calories, all healthy, and a killer boxercise class. dd woke up last night, sotoday i'm sotired i've eaten everything in sitght & i ache too much to do exercise. did just pick up my brand new bike today, so will do better tomorrow. my legs ache too much to cycle anywhere tonight (and it's friday nigth, and i've just said no to win, ffs!)

kickassangel · 05/05/2006 20:57

no to WINE Blush

TaiTai · 05/05/2006 23:15

kickassangel, I love your name.

I'd love to do boxercise. I assume you recommend it from what you said?

kickassangel · 06/05/2006 09:04

i haven't been for several years, but it is fun. it's also exhausting, and i know there are some really 'hardcore' classes out there with people who only take you if you're already v fit. i went to the ymca, which is open to everyone, so not quite so tough. go with a friend if you can as you often have to pair up and punch the living daylights out of someone (which is the fun bit) Grin

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 06/05/2006 09:12

I'm doing OK. Smile

No exercise as such but I was gardening for a couple of hours yesterday and Thursday. No booze since last Saturday. Struggling to avoid bread.

I'm running 8 miles today so have been drinking loads - It's really sunny here again today! Will reward myself with a couple of glasses of wine tonight.

Forgot the sunscreen and paying the price with a red nose.

WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 06/05/2006 10:54

I was terrible yesterday:

toast x 2, Marmite
apple x 2
cereal bar, 107 cals
homemade sandwich with hummus and rocket
but then had a bad morning so went for lunch with a friend and had
bbq chicken wings
pecan pie with ice cream and summer fruits
THEN went to pub with boss and team, no choice, work team thing and ate some tapas style things: a prawn in batter
3 mini meatballs
some lamb
some chicken
2 lime and sodas
THEN came home and had
half an M&S rack of lamb with pine nuts
Packet of Minstrels
half a packet of Revels

I didn't take my make up off either but at least I still drank NO BOOZE and I did drink water during the day plus was in bed by 11pm. So I'm back on the straight and narrow this morning, planning a long walk and we're going to the cinema tonight.

Well done everyone!

kickass, i just wondered whether the YMCA you meant was in London - the big one at Tottenham Court? I don't know where you live, but I would love to find a class.

kickassangel · 06/05/2006 13:53

sorry, nor, i go to cambridge, but there are loads of places that do it - the ymca in camb has a hostel, and a separate sports section. try giving them a ring as they have loads of stuff on. i was very surprised,as i'm definitely NOT a Young, Male, Christian, Associate, but still they let me in!

winnie · 06/05/2006 21:18

I had 1oz of green & blacks and probably should have had 1/2 oz to keep within my limits; also have had a glass of cava Shock
Otherwise all going well. I have done more vigorous gardening today & a salsa session & I've had a shite day with dd so am not going to beat myself up about the chocolate :)
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend :)

ScummyMummy · 06/05/2006 21:38

Not good today...
Started well with healthy museli apple and yog combo but went straight downhill from mid-morning with myriad crimes- including lots of green and blacks, some haribo sweets, lunch at nandos, huge handfuls of peanuts and almond thin biscuits while watching dr who and later a strawberry cornetto... Also not enough water and too much coffee. No exercise apart from ironing my shirt. I think it's definitely a could do better.

WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 08/05/2006 20:20

Right you lot, report in please!
Me:

Lovely weekend, mostly good today
make up off already
walked for 20 mins, which is poxy but better than nothing
toast x 2, marmite
handful strawberries
loads of raspberries
2 apples
a cereal bar
a 62 cal smoothie
small homemade sandwich of smoked salmon on seeded bread, no butter
piece of chocolate cake, oops
salad of rocket, capers, kidney beans, tomatoes, small amount of feta, red peppers, and cucumber with a tin of mackerel
and will have couple of squares of 70% cocoa G&B chocolate later
No booze still, day gawd knows what, but must be nearly 3 weeks.

WWWontSlagOffAnyone · 08/05/2006 20:22

Just checked, day 22 of not drinking!

OP posts:
motherinferior · 08/05/2006 20:25

I have, ahem, drunk a fair bit recently. Not to excess, well not by my admittedly fish-like standards, though.

Exercise currently impossible as the father of my children has Important Meetings every sodding night this week Angry

Callmemadam · 08/05/2006 22:36

Don't really want to check in Blush as have yet to start my days off booze for this week, have done no real exercise for a fortnight as my dog is in season, and have had a carbs craving as awful PMT to boot. Feel a complete 40 something failure ATM so I think I'll report back in when I have something decent to say......sorry and well done to WWW - awesome discipline, how do you do it?

winnie · 09/05/2006 07:36

i've had a very active weekend & Monday. Lots of gardening and walking & the early morning exercises continue mon-fri for the third week :)

I have lost 8.5 lbs in 2 weeks. I am eating loads of fruit and veg.

Am drinking lots of water (although could do a bit better). I am continuing with cleansing, moisturising etc but am not very good at topping up sunscreen.

I seem to have lots more energy and seem to be dealing with stress better.

Am having a glass of wine 4 nights out of 7.
