Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

that should be 39" over Blush

JeffFaFa · 22/02/2013 14:21

this was the panache i have - www.very.co.uk/panache-tango-11-balconette-bra---black-nude-white-deep-pink/1105694061.prd?browseToken=%2fb%2f1710%2c4294958702%2fs%2fbestsellers%2c0%2fr%2f48

Ive just tried it on again to see exactly whats going on, i find it hard to believe its the same bra as in the picture its COMPLETELY see through, like a netting, the cups turn me pointy and gape at the top, its truly horrible, i think i'll stick to moulded cups in future that round me out

JeffFaFa It looked just as ghastly on these 30Gs too! No uplift whatsoever.

32f Grin I think my boobies will be lost!

but like the dutiful mnetter that I am, I shall go and report back.

(I'm currently in a 36c, please tell me I'm finally have boobs)

Sizzlesthedog · 22/02/2013 14:38

Still trying to achieve uplift here! Grin

Ordered curvy Kate balconette in 36g and 36gg.

Fits well, but still pointing south.

Anyone suggest a good uplift bra for my poor saggy post bf self.

Used to like the fantasie moulded cup smooth types, but they don't got up to a GG.

HazleNutt · 22/02/2013 14:45

I have to wonder - in such bra threads, you rarely ever find a woman who is actually an A-C cup, even if they claim to be small busted or even totally flat. I would boldly state that most women nowadays actually need a DD+ bra. But what to shops offer? A-C in everything, a few D-s and that's pretty much it. There are even brands that only sell B-cup bras, that must really fit very few women.
Honestly, it's like knowing most women wear shoes size 5 and larger, but only sell 2-4..

SorrelForbes · 22/02/2013 14:52

Sizzlesthedog I need slight padding and seams to get proper uplift. Current favourites are the Cleo Juna, Fauve half cup bras and Ewa Michalak CH or CHP styles.

Can you do me please?

Currently wearing size 30E (which I was measured for about 6 or 7 years ago). But think I've maybe lost weight since.

Just measured myself and I am 27.5 under boobs, 32 over them.

SorrelForbes · 22/02/2013 15:11

You could try a 28D and 28DD but you may need to think about a 26E/DD which could be a bit more difficult to get hold of.

treaclesoda · 22/02/2013 15:15

And Hazle I've noticed that even a huge brand like Triumph still start most of their styles at a 34 back. Confused You would think that even from a cold hard business point of view, their team of accountants would sit down at a meeting some day and say 'you know, we're missing out on a lot of sales here...'

ShirleySharpeyes · 22/02/2013 15:27

Am lurking and waiting for someone else with my measurements to ask, but it ain't happening. So experts please help, I measure 32 under and 37 over. I am currently in a TK Maxx bargain 34C. I assume I should be in a 32 D instead? I too have depleted boobs following greedy kids but have always suffered from 'chapel hat pegs' so need a bit of padding to keep 'em warm and smooth.

HazleNutt · 22/02/2013 15:36

Shirley, start with 32DD

Trinpy · 22/02/2013 15:40

Where do they sell 26s?

Will order a few 28s to try.

ShirleySharpeyes · 22/02/2013 15:45

Hazle - thank you and really?? Will report back.

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2013 15:45

Shirley, I would start you at a 32DD.

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2013 15:50

Trinpy, Ewa Michelak do custom order 26s, and I believe panache are due to bring some out in March. Until then, I'm afraid it's either adjusting 28s or something like the Roxie Clip (available on ebay)

It's pathetic, I know

Hazlenutt, completely agree with you. We have had a few women who are genuinely an A/B cup but really not very many at all compared to the number who have been told they are and are actually D+

treaclesoda · 22/02/2013 15:59

There is such reluctance to admit to being over a D or DD. I'm in my late 30s and I have vivid memories of my teenage years, reading magazine articles in such things as Just Seventeen and Mizz magazine, telling you how to measure for your bra. For starters, even 20 something years ago, I knew that the 'add 4 or 5' to your underbust measurement just didn't make sense (although its not until reading these threads that I have understood why). But also, I wore a 32GG aged 15 or so (probably should have been about a 28, but they just didn't exist then) and there was literally only one bra on the market at the time that fitted me (a rather matronly Fantasie design). I remember at that age reading these rotten teenage magazines and their bra articles, and they regularly used to make sneering jokes about how bras go up as far as an F cup, but, ho ho, imagine being that size, giggle giggle. It did hideous things to my already fragile teenage self esteem. And its only in my thirties that I have discovered that I wasn't a freak, and I wasn't the only teenage girl in the UK who was bigger than a C cup. Pity I didn't know all that at age 15, maybe I wouldn't have loathed myself so much. Hmm

Sorry for the hijack, but I am passionate about this. If my daughter ends up big busted like me (I really hope she doesn't!) I don't want her to ever feel the way I did.

Trinpy · 22/02/2013 16:14

Ooh thanks for that SC. Might wait til March and see what Panache has to offer cos I used to like them.

My mum just popped round and we were chatting about this. She weighs 8.5 stone and is a size 10 but is wearing a 36a. I'm e-mailing her the mumsnet bra sizing guide...

HazleNutt · 22/02/2013 16:22

treacle and guess what, if you try the fitting guide on Triumph's website, it tells you that with underbust of 27,5 inches, you need a 32 bra. Sigh. No wonder they think there's no need for smaller sizes.

fresh · 22/02/2013 16:25

Ok, here are my measurements. 34 under, 41 over. Am currently wearing a 36G. Which is probably wrong I guess. My favourite bra is the Fantasie T-shirt non-moulded, but I do have some wired balconette ones which give me a narrower, more forward shape which can also be good. I tend to wear the straps quite short as I think it's less matronly.

Should I be in a different size please?

babyicebean · 22/02/2013 16:33

Could someone let me know what these measurements come in at please

37 inch back
49 inch over boob

this was with the current bra on and the wires are well away from the chest in the middle

Thank you

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/02/2013 16:35

Fresh, on bare measurements I would have said a 34F. However, if you are currently in a 36g I suspect you need a larger cup than that measurement would suggest. How does your existing cup fit?

If it fits well cup wise, I would start by trying a 34G
