Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

Assuming our measurements are fairly close...a 36f! (we tested them!)

And trust me, the back fat from that is not pretty!

AmazingDisgrace · 06/03/2013 21:30

They're all pretty SC but they all look like a whole lot of bra at the top. I need to actually get over my hatred of trying things on I suppose and get to Bravissimo.

Tell me the Fauve coco half cup will suit or I'm going to sulk a bit Grin

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 06/03/2013 21:42

Yikes, there is no way I could possibly fit in that! I'm tempted to go in and see what they put me at and in now! :o

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 21:46

If you do don't forgot to report to us (and their twitter, and facebook wall....) just how WRONG they get it :)

They stuck Sorrel (a 30G/GG) in a 36D and told her she might need a 38..

AmazingDisgrace · 06/03/2013 21:48

Not the Coco I meant the Veronique or Lucia.

Imlostwithoutahope · 06/03/2013 21:49

Thanks for the help, debenhams weren't too far out then. I'm confused though because I thought a c cup would be for someone with decent breasts not my tincy ones. How do I know if the back/cup is too tight. Maybe its because they're padded but my boobs are squashed together! I think I suffer from lack of upper volume from beast feeding which is why I get the gaping. Am I better off going for a different style instead of a wonderbra style.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 06/03/2013 21:50

Shock I don't know how they get away with t so much, that is seriously bad!

Just had a look at the ultimate and that's the one I tried on! I could get away with it with a top on, it definitely pushes them up Hmm.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 22:00

I'mlost... there us some info on testing your bra fit here betterbracampaign.blogspot.co.uk - saves me retyping it! But moulded bras are tricky in general unless they are the perfect shape for you. They always gape on me.

Boo Schro...I can get away with it but I might be less full on top. The uplift is tremendous so hopefully they'll extend range

marriednotdead · 06/03/2013 22:03

Tears rolling down my face at BEASTfeeding imlost Grin

Letticetheslug · 06/03/2013 22:22

went to M&S today , I am currently wearing 40dd triumph, which is quite comfy, but riding up at the back. I measured myself 38 chest 46 around..

tried on a 38F (they don;t seem to do an FF) , to big in back size, shot up when I lifted my arms and the cup size was far too small. In Debenhams bought a 38F Triumph, which looked far better under my dress than the one I was wearing.

Looking with my new "bra eyes" shocked how small teh range of cup sizes is, most go to DD/E and then go up a back size.

Still not sure I have craxcked it, so have planned a visit to London and Bravissimo

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/03/2013 23:33

Loving beastfeedinglettice suspect you might need to try a 36, maybe in a g or thereabouts.

FierceBadIggi · 06/03/2013 23:56

Got 5 bras from debenhams today, same sizes, all very different fits! Have narrowed it down to two, a Curvy Kate and a Freya one - CK one is a JJ cup but fits better than the Freya J which is a bit gappy at the upper cup bit. Have realised I need to actually sit with each one on for a while to really see if they fit - I never took this long over choosing bras in my previous life!

(While bf the baby tonight he took his hand and starting pulling out the band of my bra - think he has been reading this thread too?! Grin )

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/03/2013 00:10

Curvy Kate do tend to run smaller in the cup then Freya IME. Now that you know what you are looking for you will probably never just "grab a bra off the rail" again. Even once you know your "size" they are all a little different.

AmazingDisgrace · 07/03/2013 00:11

I've just had a mammoth try on of all my non fitting bras. My 36DD Fauves were appalling on band and cup obviously. The Just Peachy Figleaves balconettes in 34E were OK, just loose in the back and a bit quadraboob, when I manually tightened the back the cup gaped. Best-ish fit was a La Senza 34 E , could be better at a 32 as the back does up on the tightest fitting no gape but overspill at the armpit, its a plunge with good side support.

My measurements are up thread 33/39-40 so its prob a fit thing as SC said

The 34F's I have tried are too easy to do up on the tightest setting and my shallow/Lack of top volume boobs make the cup wrinkle near the straps

The 32FFs gape near the centre gore or totally at the top but I've just tried the Masquerade Rossetti and Delphi.

I had a breast reduction 20Yrs ago, they grew back...its OK I love them now...just want a bra they will vavavoom into

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/03/2013 00:21

Amazing given what you have said there about the ones that work I think it probably is a style issue. The 36DD and 34E has the same cup as the 32F, and you said most of those had a small amount of quad/spill. So a 32FF is probably the right territory, just a case of tracking down the right one.

AmazingDisgrace · 07/03/2013 09:31

I know you're right SC, I'm just starting to despair a bit. I'm just being a bit stampy footed that the bras I like aren't right Blush

FierceBadIggi · 07/03/2013 10:26

Oh dear. Think I might end up returning all of my bra order, and I really don't want to! Wore the slightly-large-in-the-cup Freya for an hour this morning and forgot it was on, which I think it was good. The lace wrinkling is not notieable under clothes. Now trying the Curly Kate but it seems like it was made for slightly broader shoulders than me - like the straps are wide apart? Looks good but not too comfy.
Is it crime to keep a bra if the cup is a bit gappy?

FierceBadIggi · 07/03/2013 10:27

That would be curvy obviously, not curly! And damn it the tag has come off while I tried it on - that happens all the time to me in fitting rooms, but have a feeling they might not let me return it Sad

SorrelForbes · 07/03/2013 10:29

FierceBadIggi Curvy Kate do come up quote large in the band and one sign of wearing a band too large, is the straps sliding off. Is that the issue or is that the straps are rubbing?

The label thing always happens to me (I am a klutz).

Oh my goodness...a bra thread (looks despairingly in underwear drawer)...

HELP....

4 children and a relationship split since I last got proper help (M&S just didn't manage to find a size to fit)

Measure 40 inch under and 46 around.

Help what does that mean and can i find something with enough scaffolding in ro make a difference?

SorrelForbes · 07/03/2013 11:20

One of many at the moment Grin.

Try a 40E but if you read this thread (and others) you'll see that some people have squishier frames than others and it's not uncommen for someone measuring 40 to actually need a 38 or even a 36. Remember to size up in the cups if you try a smaller band.

Check out the measuring and fitting guide here. Getting the band right is the first step!

foolonthehill · 07/03/2013 11:26

Grin...not very squishy I don't think (nicely put!)...very broad shoulders and ribcage to match (so feminine....)

now if only I can get the bra to accept some of the baby tummy............in place of the back fat.....

sparkle12mar08 · 07/03/2013 11:38

I have waiting in front of me 19 bras from 3 different companies to go try on Grin

I may be some time...

SorrelForbes · 07/03/2013 11:46

sparkle12mar08 Ooh, exciting. I hope at least some of them are keepers! I'm awaiting an order from EM.

Found you!! I have been dying to get here for days, but somehow my unfettered boobs never managed to be in the same room at the same time as the tape measure!

Can you do me?

I am 40 round the boobs leaning over, and to my astonishment a bit over 32 below.

Am currently wearing 36E, on the tightest fastening. Feels pretty tight though?

I was measured by M&S, so it's probably wrong. The woman did tell me I should no longer wear underwired bras - I'm too old - and naturally they didn't have any wifi bras in my size.

Thanks to your threads I now know the right way to put my bra on and I scoop like mad! It does feel like I'm getting more support now I put them on properly. The scooping does result in the cups almost giving me a double norkage, though. That's what told me I've probably got the wrong size.

You lot are brilliant. Thank you so much!
