Time for a new bra thread

I am officially a mad bra lady. I staged an intervention today in M&S in an attempt to stop a young lady buying a 36B. She was with her mum who told me her daughter was a size 12 and that's why they'd picked up a 36. I advised her to try a 30! I am now feeling a mixture of shame and pride.

They were like this Shock Confused

Thanks for that Married. I was always told to pad (I used to be more asymmetric than I am now - go figure!) but I hated the look of the bra being "uneven" even though it was often hidden in clothes. Mind you, I was also younger and wore things that were far less subtle in the cleavage department! I suspect if I still was uneven I wouldn't pad most bras.

notjustamummythankyou · 23/02/2013 22:11

Now I don't lead me astray. I've just ordered the Persia Balconette. Oops.

Great price in the sale though, and an extra 20% / free P&p for being a first time customer brought the bra and matching knickers in at just over £16. Would have been rude not to.

I think my new bra size is going to be rather expensive ... Smile

treaclesoda · 23/02/2013 22:36

Going back to what HazleNutt said earlier about sports bras, and the lack of availability in bigger sizes. The government are always wringing their hands, wondering why teenage girls won't do sports. I'd bet my last £ that for thousands of them, its because if they have boobs they don't want teenage boys and bitchy female classmates laughing at them. I know that was why I did everything I could to avoid sports at school.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2013 22:38

Oh god yes treaclesoda, and don't start me on swimming at school!

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/02/2013 22:39

Damn it, I didn't see the discount code notjustamummy! FAIL for me. I did buy a brand spanking new Fauve bra for £14 delivered in ebay earlier though

NorthernNumpty · 24/02/2013 09:23

I just tried on my old 30E and you know what the band wasn't too tight, but I did the scooping of back fat and good grief I had about six boobs! It never occurred to me to 'scoop' thank you so much, I will be trying 30FF and upwards

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2013 10:09

That certainly makes things a lot easier NorthernNumpty if you have the back size confirmed already!

Mummy2Bea · 24/02/2013 10:40

serious lurker here and watching this thread with interest! have been wearing a mix of 32DDs and 30Es depending on make/style. never been quite happy with fit but as measured at bravissimo didn't want to question! main issues are side boobage in most bras plus underwires dig in to rib cage always. I wondered if this was because it was too tight but now from reading this wondering if it is the opposite?! just measured myself using mn rules and I am 29 under rib cage and 37 over fullest part bending over. what size do you wise people think I really should be wearing?Smile

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2013 10:43

I would try a 28g, 28ff, 30f,30ff. Sometimes bravissimo dont tell people to scoop violently enough. Ime

AnyFucker · 24/02/2013 10:45

Start with a 28g

DontCallMeBaby · 24/02/2013 10:53

Out of interest, I tried out the two different methods for measuring overbust just now (once DD and DH out of the house so no chance of interruption) ... bending over method - 42", over bra method - 39". I don't think this says good things about the state of my boobs. Grin

Underneath is 31". I will tell what I'm wearing if necessary, but would be interested in a blind reading, as it were.

AnyFucker · 24/02/2013 10:57

30hh is what I would say blindly

cartoontrickster · 24/02/2013 11:01

bra guru please help! I measure just under 30 around the back and 36 over bust. what size is this?! I last got measured in house of Fraser must be 5/6months ago. they said between a 28 & 30 back with a d cup. but they couldnt find me a bra with a small enough back. I have gained a bit of weight since then. am 10wks pregnant. I barely seem to have a bra in my drawer that fits! thanks in advance!

SorrelForbes · 24/02/2013 11:05

cartoontrickster. Try a 30E and possibly a 28F. However the 30 might be a better choice as your pregnant and will probably expand!

cartoontrickster · 24/02/2013 11:07

E! good grief!

DontCallMeBaby · 24/02/2013 11:07

Oh, interesting AF. I wear 32G, always Panache Porcelain. I've gone from 36 to 34 down to 32 with weight loss, always a G, but I have put a bit back on which I think has increased cup size but not back size. That said, I've tried my 34Gs back on to check out cup size only and I'm swamped!

I also wear a 34F Shock Absorber Run, but I KNOW that doesn't fit! Bits squished out all over the place, and the tops of my boobs are practically up to my collarbone, but dammit - nothing moves!

Mummy2Bea · 24/02/2013 11:49

Grin at scooping violently! gosh 28g sounds massive. I will try that though. I imagine I won't be spoilt for choice. thanks for your help.

TheDoctrineOfSciAndNatureClub · 24/02/2013 12:36

Don'tcallme, a 34F has the same cup volume as a 32G or a 30GG or a 36E etc, someone posted a link to it on the previous thread

Silverstar2 · 24/02/2013 17:44

Sooo, I thought I was sorted with my size - my Bravissimo Daisy Chain in 36G and my Cleo June in 36FF seemed to fit........ but then the last couple of days I got to thinking that they still didn't feel that tight - the front on the Juna 'dropped' a bit under my boobs and left red marks about 2cm below........ so I wore it on the middle hook - much better, and did the same with the Daisy chain today - middle hook - and they feel so much better, in fact I feel like I could go to the tightest hook............ not good, eh? I remeasured, and my under bust is just slighly over 36 when pulled tight.

Annoying, thought I had it sorted. Should I try a 34 band? I am quite, er, squishy....! The G cup seems ok - a bit of gape on my smaller side, but nothing much. Should I try a 34G and GG?!

I am so determind to get this right!

hatgirl · 24/02/2013 17:44

wow well thanks for the advice! went and got a cheapy 34F bra after the advice (have been wearing 34Bs). Went with my DP who looking at the cups laughed and said 34F was huge and my boobs are never that big, he even threatened to wear it on his head as a hat. Well, tried it on and it fits perfectly! No more side boobage!

Silverstar2 · 24/02/2013 17:46

Also have been looking today at My Curves and Me - they seem resonably priced, but my credit card could do with a rest this month! I registered and got a code for free delivery.........

Tempted now.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2013 17:50

Silverstar I would be tempted to try a 34. maybe order the same ones as you have in their equivalent size in a 34 and give them a go around the house to see how they feel. It is common for those of us who are a little squishy to need a smaller back size than we measure for adequate support. I would try down one back (and therefore up one cup) for each bra to start with. Sometimes it's more like up 2 cups but...

Silverstar2 · 24/02/2013 17:53

Ok, will have a think and maybe order a couple of 34GG's..........

Thanks SC.

StatisticallyChallenged · 24/02/2013 17:53

Ha ha hatgirl my dh has put mine on his head before now!

DontCallMeBaby · 24/02/2013 17:53

Doctrine, I know - actually didn't learn it here, but so glad I DID learn it, or I'd have been trying 34F then 32E as I lost weight and getting v confused! That Run bra is a law unto itself though - when its hooked up for the wash it doesn't look like it'd go round my thigh, never mind my ribcage. Confused
