Aerated....Grin love that phrase.

I had a brief look at that thread, but lost the will to live a few pages in. What did H get banned for? I've met her at a couple of meetups, mad as a box of frogs but very lovely and clearly very clever. And what norty stuff did you say?

do you think my feeling aerated is connected to my excessive mint aero consumption Grin

An op began a thread inviting male posters to explain what it was they thought they had to contribute to debate on the feminism / women's rights chat threads on the board.... I was truly shocked to see how many men seem to hang out there with the (in my view) main intention of provoking and derailing the conversation. It descended into unarmed combat and one very regular (female) poster apparently banned. Another thread then debated the rights and wrongs of this... I got involved. I was told to "fuck off" and the c word was bandied about rather freely... it was not dignified. It was properly Shocking.

well done anyone who read all that!

Most 'interesting' day yesterday. Went to my first-ever bat mitzvah. It was held in a soul-less room in a Surrey University, and seemed all rather shambolic. Ninety percent of it was in Hebrew, and it went on for TWO HOURS. And I didn't know the songs.

The only place for me to sit was right at the front, practically on top of the bat mitzvah girl, so I couldn't fidget or nod off. But there was that usual religious ceremony standing up and sitting down going on, and I had no idea when to do either, so kept being the only one standing, or sitting. DS was AMAZING, and sat on our laps the whole way through, while the other children were running riot.

Then at lunch we sat with a micro-biologist with a brain the size of a planet who wanted to engage us in a philosophical discussion about the nature of ethics and law. I couldn't even drink as I was driving. Made up for it in the evening, though, sharing six bottles between four of us over a curry.

We had a lovely day in Sidmouth today. Quaint little seaside town that just happens to have a branch of Seasalt . Still, the place I had selected for lunch was approved by the family and then we had gi-normous ice creams. As we were wandering along, eating our ice creams, an extremely large herring gull swooped down on dh from behind and pinched his ice cream from out of his hand. Was a great shame that we did not catch on camera what ensued. Dh gave chase and became very Scottishly sweary (leaving dd completely mortified and ds cackling with delight) and the gull gave up the ice cream. I honestly though dh was going to eat it Grin . But he stuffed in the bin. The ice cream shop gave him a free replacement. Grin

Oh Stropps did you purchase??
Have a friend who lives in Falmouth and says any local knows you don't eat ice cream on the beach (or chips, or pasties...)

StroppsGrin The same happened to my goddaughter when the girls were tiny - one minute she was holding an ice-cream, the next she had an empty hand and the gull was off!
Yes, what did you purchase in Seasalt?

And well done babyHerbsSmile

Happened to me too, in St Ives. Bastard gull knocked my shades off and broke them.

One then pooped copiously all down my friend's back.

when ds2 was very small a peacock once stole a sandwich from his hand at a picnic... when he was taken to a zoo with school aged about 5 his teacher told me "he was very scared of the peacocks, it was most peculiar, saying they might steal his things. Of course I told him not to be so ridiculous " Hmm Grin

We spend quite a lot of time in Weymouth (as we only live just up the road) and the seagulls there wouldn't dare pinch your ice cream. Maybe because Weymouth locals are, ahem, a bit fierce. I think even the most monstrous gulls round here are a bit cowed.

Yes, I did make a purchase or two in Seasalt. A perky little woollen hat, because ds said I looked lovely in it :) and this , which looks very drab in the pics on the website, but is truly nice in RL. And fits even my diddy little self. Comes just below my knees and the sleeve length is perfect. Have re-homed my old, mint-condition mac with dd, who is v. pleased with it. Win-win. Grin And I found out that Seasalt will soon be opening a branch in Lyme Regis.

Ps: I have even become brave enough to wear a very red lipstick. I finally purchased the red, red one recommended by the HoC lady. I thought she was mad at the time, but now I see that she did know what she was talking about. Grin

Totally well done to Herbs Junior, btw. I couldn't even take ds to something like that now, never mind at pre-school age.

Stropps sounds like you had a good time - I now have a hankering to see the sea (and if there happens to be a branch of Seasalt nearby ;) . Actually I think this has been in my head al weekend as waiting for my friend on Saturday a train was on its way to Weymouth and they were listing all these wonderful sounding places (request stop only...)

I still haven't sorted half -term ds is muttering about Prague (anyone every been - what's there?) or Italy (nice and broad that one...).

I spent the weekend drinking various beverages and proffering shoulder to friend.

Now no eat day - ahhh

Come on Ruby, you have to tell us more...!

Hola hags - checking in from Washington, just got back from a reception where I knew no one (I have email relationships with some of them but had no a clue what they looked like) but managed to strike up some decent conversations and have had a nice time. I realise this sounds like no great shakes, but coming from someone who once spent several hours of a teenage party in an airing cupboard (alone) so that I didn't have to find someone to talk to, it feels like an achievement. Clearly a crepey dog can learn some new tricks. In deference to the fasting ladies, I won't detail what I have eaten so far this trip, but suffice to say that none of it features on any diet sheet I have ever seen. In S&B news, I have bought a couple of cute things, esp a black and white slouchy/boxy cardi which will look good with jeans or a straight black skirt. I have also bought new workout clothes as my old ones were becoming quite revolting. I do need a new sports bra though - any recommendations? I have real trouble finding one that fits as my boobs are small but still need reasonable support so I can't get away with just a stretchy crop top which is what the Gap lady was trying to sell me.

Hi wilbur glad to hear you are having a good time, did wince in recognition of airing cupboard story, but actually for me that was probably my twenties! I was apparently really scary (in a leave me alone way - defence mechanism) at Uni and it is surprising I ended up with a lovely bunch of friends!!
You can talk food now ;)

It was redundancies as friend thought - but voluntary at the moment...

wilburEnvy I was never that shy as a teen/twenty-something (amount of alcohol consumed could have had something to do with thatBlush) but making small-talk with a room of complete strangers for a few hours would certainly be a challenge.

On sports bra advice, I don't wear one at all - just those built-in tops which seem perfectly adequate for my fried eggs 34A's. Meanwhile my 28D DD wears her normal (non-underwired) bra for all her (many) sports. Maybe she should have a sports bra or two???

BD, does he fancy voluntary redundancy? Good pay off?

Report
Blackduck · 05/02/2013 07:10

BTM - not sure what he thinks. His pay off would be good (25 years and age), plus they have enhanced package. His boss might take it (she is past retirement age).

Sports bras - M&S do a pretty good underwired double pack.
Choir tonight....
