Will this fit the bill. Dull but seasonal?

Oh ffs MrsS that is not crap, it's bloody fantastic - how many people manage to do that in an interview, eh?

I think we are ALL bloody amazing women who appear to share a general tendency to run ourselves down, here on this thread, and that we should mutually devise some strategies for tackling and ideally overcoming this. Grin

bigTillyMint · 26/01/2013 18:37

Got everything crossed for you too WilburSmile

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/01/2013 18:44

Yes, yes, MI. As a Colonel I used to work with used to say, Man The Fuck Up, Princess. Grin

bigTillyMint · 26/01/2013 18:46

Must remember that phraseGrin

Blackduck · 26/01/2013 20:13

Love that MrsS!!!
When will you hear?
Fingers crossed wibur

oldqueencrepey · 27/01/2013 14:32

still writing my paper crepeys... boy am I sick of it. I do feel by my ancient ripe old age I might have cultivated less of a procrastinating and tortured attitude... but apparently not. My teenagers are most scathing of my efforts... hope you're all enjoying your sundays

CointreauVersial · 27/01/2013 18:15

Back from sister's 50th party which was an absolute hoot and involved prolonged alcohol consumption for about 12 straight hours. DSis did a hilarious speech, in which she lamented that the only time anyone asked her to take her top off nowadays was for a mammogram. Grin

The DCs had very little sleep and were tired and grumpy all day today, then DS dropped his precious iPad Mini in a puddle, with the result that the speakers aren't working; tears and recrimination aplenty. I think/hope it will sort itself out after a couple of days of drying out.

MrsS, I agree, building a rapport with interviewers such that they are laughing (presumably) at your jokes has got to be a good thing; also the fact that you are known to one of them. When do you hear the result?

bigTillyMint · 27/01/2013 18:16

Can't believe it's Sunday night already Sad
Had a good weekend - caught up with a friend Sat morning and another Sat afternoon, then out for a lovely dinner at friends and then went to see Lincoln this afternoonSmile DDL was amazing!

CointreauVersial · 27/01/2013 23:24

Wot's Lincoln?

CointreauVersial · 27/01/2013 23:26

Oh yes, happiness is restored at Chateau Cointreau. The DDs had an early night and DS's iPad speakers leapt into life after a few hours drying out.

Blackduck · 28/01/2013 05:59

Sat and worked out where to use remaining leave (7 days before the end of March) - a few four day weeks coming up :) oh, and might be able to squeeze in 8th!! But only if CV comes ;)
On the diet front, I can't lo-carb, I will die, so am trying this 5:2 thing, whilst cutting out the 'big' carbs (bread, pasta, pots, rice etc), and cutting the booze - weekends only.
Anyone else only/tried 5:2.

bigTillyMint · 28/01/2013 06:43

CV Lincoln is the film in which Daniel Day Lewis is likely to get his 3rd Oscar!!! He is fabulous in it.

Yes, Yes, CV and BD, book the 8th inGrin

BD, I don't know how anyone can sustain a deprivation diet for any length of time - I would be chewing my hands off if I had to survive on less than 500calories for 2 days a week! And the thought of no carbs and no (or very little} fruit Shock

Blackduck · 28/01/2013 07:26

See I find the idea of two days restricted intake and five days of not having to think about it far easier than lo-carb because so much of what I like is high carb (fruit and porridge and stuff) and as a veggie upping the protein is hard.

herbaceous · 28/01/2013 09:23

Hey BD! It just so happens I've started the 5:2 diet today. I'd much rather have two days a week of relative deprivation than every day of calorie-counting. I can look forward to having normal days, which should keep my grasping claw out of the biscuit tin. The knock-on health benefits also seem pretty convincing.

Had scrambled eggs and ham for lunch, and won't eat again until dinner when I'll have a broccoli, tofu thing.

I'm also not drinking in the week. Usually. Had a pretty full-on weekend, with huge meal, wine and cake. And a party, featuring a whole stilton.

wilbur · 28/01/2013 10:39

BD - I lost about 20lbs doing a version of the 5:2 - it was a few years ago and it was called day up day down, but it was basically 500 cals every other day, so I did a few weeks of that, and then did 2.5:4.5 as it were (Mon, Wed, Fri until dinner time) for a few more months to lose the rest. Intermittent fasting works really well for me as the psychological thing about being able to look at biscuits and say - I'll have a couple of those tomorrow - makes a huge difference. Plus I find I don't gorge on the day in between, weirdly, I'm so thrilled with a bit of muesli, that's all I want. I'm doing the 5:2 again now as I have the Xmas flubber to shift. I think with all these diets, it's about finding the thing that works for you. Low carbing works for me too, but only when I am feeling positive and in control of other areas of life as it requires quite a commitment. One thing I have discovered is these which help a lot - I have a big bowl of pho-type soup on the 500 cal days, and now I can have noodles in them. They taste of nothing, really, a little like rice noodles, but they feel like carbs....

The other reason I'm trying to shift the extra poundage if because the dcs wanted to watch old home movies yesterday and there were some shots of me (admittedly post-birth of dd and 2 stone heavier than I am now) that were depressing, so I want to keep that at bay - it's soooo easy for it to creep up on me.

wilbur · 28/01/2013 10:42

The dcs were very cute in the videos though - ds1 taking his first steps Smile Smile Smile

bigTillyMint · 28/01/2013 10:54

Funny you should say that Wilbur - DS needed baby photos last night so we started looking through the old photos and I was just amazed at how much younger I looked! Then they started looking at photos of me in my early 20's and I looked sooo thinGrin

CointreauVersial · 28/01/2013 13:32

Ooh, I love shirataki noodles, Wilbur, but the only place I've ever been able to find them is Wing Yip, which is a bit of a trek for me. Can you get them mail order?? I'm a big fan of cauliflower (grated or mashed) as a faux-carb, and they are a lot easier to source.

Not sure I fancy 5:2, but it has a lot of fans at the moment (and a lot of diet-bashers who come out of the woodwork whenever such things are mentioned).

We have a cute video of DD1 taking her first steps - it was on our honeymoon, around a swimming pool in Tuscany. She was only 11mo and tiny, so she looks like a walking doll.

herbaceous · 28/01/2013 13:34

Gah. Only 1.30, and I'm STARVING. Still, only five hours to go before 'delicious' dinner. And as Saint Michael Moseley says, I won't actually die of being hungry. It's character-building.

Blackduck · 28/01/2013 14:03

I can't lo-carb, it's too hard. Whereas this is eas(ier). As long as I am busy I don't think about it! Except now..... Grin

herbaceous · 28/01/2013 14:10

I'm trying to do my self-assessment tax return online, and am caught in an endless loop of forgotten passwords. Normally I'd go downstairs and eat the contents of the fridge. Bit lost now!

Stropperella · 28/01/2013 15:24

Feh to diets Grin

Ds and friends very much enjoyed his quasar laser party on Saturday. And I generously provided an extra large chocolate gateau so that I (and dh and dd) could have a large slice or two each. Grin Then I went out with some mum friends for a v. nice Italian meal with lots of wine. Ahhhhh, carbs, I love 'em.

oldqueencrepey · 28/01/2013 15:41

am eating a mint aero, is that low carb?

Blackduck · 28/01/2013 16:34

OQ think probably not Grin
Stropps - the whole point of 5:2 is I can have choc/beetroot cake tomorrow!!

herbaceous · 28/01/2013 16:38

Indeed! Carb-loading tomorrow. Though apparently some magical change occurs within, meaning you tend to want smaller quantities of healthy fare. I shall no doubt be at soft play, so that's out the window!
