Will this fit the bill. Dull but seasonal?

Like the trousers, but, like Ruby, I tend to be a full-length roller-upper.

Apparently "cigarette trousers" are the shape to go for at the moment, but they are no good in this weather as ankle flashing is required. I am in a bootcut rut with my work trews at the moment.

We are off to the Midlands tomorrow for my sister's 50th (she actually lives down here, but is having two parties, one at my folk's place and one at hers, because she has such a vast network of friends across the country). I'm just hoping there isn't too much snow overnight to hinder our progress up the M40. Have a good weekend crepesters.

CointreauVersial · 25/01/2013 19:01

Aww, MrsS, I'm sure you weren't.

I hate interviews.

Stropperella · 25/01/2013 19:12

Ha, MrsS, I bet you weren't crap. Have a splendid evening either way!

I like "ankle grazers" as they tend to be just about the right full length on me. Used to love mid-calf length but I've recently noticed that my ankles are looking a bit elderly and are best hidden away.

Dd now has a hamster. She has paid for the cage and all the bits and pieces herself. She got the hamster on Tuesday and by Wednesday already had a complex because "he doesn't like me" (I think he may have refused a proferred sunflower seed. He's only 6 weeks old ffs.). Oh dearie me.

herbaceous · 25/01/2013 19:28

I like cropped trousers, and always think I cut quite a dash, until I see my cankles in a shop window and start weeping. Don't know how you're supposed to wear them in this weather, though. With 'an ankle boot'?

Off out to committee meeting shortly. But as undertook 30-day shred this afternoon, can barely move.

bigTillyMint · 25/01/2013 19:37

MrsS, I bet you weren't crap too!

I have cigarette pants, so I must be at the forefront of fashionSmile But they are NOT for this weather! And they are probably a touch shorter than ankle length - normal length trousers are ankle skimmers swingers on me - NOT a good look!

Strops, surely she can't really believe the hamster doesn't like her?

So is 6pm a good time to book for? I could get there for 5.30 if you are dying of thirst, ruby?Wink

Mmm, like your thinking rubyWink Would it be a cocktail bar we are looking for? how about here? - Just round the corner from the restaurant!

Blackduck · 25/01/2013 21:47

MrsS bet you weren't....

Too many pints of various brews to ague trouser lengths...
Have a good Friday peeps......

CointreauVersial · 25/01/2013 22:29

I'm on the horns of a dilemma, peeps, whether to ditch my dullsville work colleagues and come out with you lot on the 8th. I'm missing out!

Problem is I'm actually organising the evening, and it is (irritatingly) about 4 miles away from where I live, so very handy for drunken taxis home. And my boss is paying......

In family news, we have decided to trial DS with a (deep breath) bank account and monthly allowance. Up until now he hasn't had regular pocket money, but the odd tenner comes his way when he's meeting friends, or wants that essential Hollister hoody, and we've decided to make it a bit more formal. And we are going to give him the money we normally put into cashless catering at school so he can decide whether to eat (and pay for) food in the canteen, or get up five minutes earlier and make a (free) packed lunch. We currently fund three meals a week.

DH is convinced he will blow his funds by the 3rd day of the month and will come begging for money, but I think he will be rich as Rockefeller by the end of the year.....well, we'll see. I was a fanatical saver as a child, but that's all gone to pot now.Grin

bigTillyMint · 26/01/2013 07:52

CV, you know which to pick - there is really no contest Grin

I am thinking of doing the same for DD - I currently give her £20 a month on top of phone top-up, and she earns a bit doing the odd bit of babysitting for next door, but I would like to get her used to having a bank account (apart from the savings one which we wouldn't let her withdraw from!)
I find that when she spends her own money, she is much more careful with her purchasesWink

herbaceous · 26/01/2013 08:28

Oh and mrs s, I bet you weren't in the least bit crap. I bet it was just one of those interviewers who deliberately make you feel uneasy and defensive as some sort of test, a la Apprentice.

Blackduck · 26/01/2013 09:04

MrsS when will you hear?

CV think roads are pretty okay in Midlands, predicted overnight snow didn't happen - rained instead....the big thaw is on its way (hooray!).

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/01/2013 09:44

It was a panel of four, which I felt was excessive. And no, I was quite crap. One of the questions, which should have been a gift to me, I fudged. And another I just woffled pointlessly. And the first question "What would you hope to achieve during the first year in the job" wasn't terribly easy. The really irritating thing is, I know the boss well - have worked with her before, and would love to do so again. I know she was quite keen on me too, as she called my boss (Head Honcho, not AB) the day before to tell him. I think she would be happy to have me work with her, but the rest of the panel looked at me as if I were a bit dim. It was by video, which wasn't ideal, and I had asked the person using the VTC before me, if she could wrap up 10 minutes before to give me time to prepare and sort the thing out. She didn't, overran the actual start time of my interview, and I went in as they were calling, which didn't help.

Have slight hangover from last night. Am planning a lazy weekend, will do a food shop shortly and probably some baking at some point!

Blackduck · 26/01/2013 10:15

MrsS well it ain't over until its over so you never know. I think we are all much harder on ourselves than most interviewers are. That year question is a bitch - friend had 'what would you like to achieve in the irate three months'! Now for most of us the true answer would be 'learning the job' but clearly that wasn't he answer they wanted..,

motherinferior · 26/01/2013 10:22

FWIW it's the job interviews I've walked out of thinking 'god, I made a total hash of that one, didn't I' that resulted in the job...

Blackduck · 26/01/2013 10:36

Yes MI exactly, came out of current interview, phoned dp and said 'won't get that'. Following day offered it...

bigTillyMint · 26/01/2013 12:16

Will keep everything crossed for you MrsS - it aint over till the fat lady singsGrin

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/01/2013 12:52

I did make them laugh a lot though. One of the panel laughed so much at one of my answers that he was shrieking and banging the table. (It was supposed to be funny.)

bigTillyMint · 26/01/2013 12:58

That is definitely a good sign. We all like to work with people who make us laughSmile

oldqueencrepey · 26/01/2013 14:07

yes! (As long as they were laughing WITH you...) Wink

wilbur · 26/01/2013 15:35

I think that sounds like a good sign too, if you made them laugh, then they're going to be well-disposed towards having you working with them. I'm sure you were not as pants as you are making out - I have everything everything crossed for a good result.

I also have everything crossed for my appointment at The US Embassy this Wednesday very early in the morning. I got through after literally days on the phone to an engaged line. They have said they will issue me an emergency passport to cover the trip Washington and then I can renew my passport as normal. Obviously, I am imagining they will find a reason not to issue the passport, so I have unearthed every bit of information there is about me to use as back-up - NY state birth certificate, birth registry with British Consulate, SS number card, expired passport AND the expired one before that, plus I even have my baptism certificate. If they want me to wee into a jar, I will. Wish me luck!

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/01/2013 16:22

Wilbur, do get there early - the security there is such a PITA. In my last job I had an appointment with their defence attache and had to call him from the queue saying that I had actually got there 15 minutes early, but security was holding things up!

Hopefully you won't need to wee in a jar! Grin

MrsSchadenfreude · 26/01/2013 16:22

(I am ignoring you, OQ... Grin)

oldqueencrepey · 26/01/2013 17:20

that's OK mrs S.... I'm used to it Wink
