mignonette I just read about your cat on another thread and am so very sorry. Sending virtual hugs and positive thoughts for your son's driving test this morning x

Thank you Shop

We are all devastated. Sad

FritziGreenEyes · 14/11/2012 08:21

Bonsoir, snap! Wearing burgundy skinny cords and cropped light grey fake fur jacket today. Albeit with studded biker boots and cross body bag. So warm and cosy!

Mignonette, hope your cat has turned up and is purring on your lap.

DonaAna · 14/11/2012 08:32

Oh so sorry to hear that Mig!
Fritzi lovely to see you here - love your outfit. Sounds devastatingly chic.

Weather in Italy is still summerlike, and I hope it stays that way, as we are off to a long weekend in Tuscany tomorrow.

The tall leather boots seemed to be the missing link in my wardrobe. Now that I have them I'm getting so much wear out of existing stuff in my wardrobe - I'm in love again with a black pleated leather miniskirt from Topshop (Catholic schoolgirl goes kinky). And have also been wearing my mock Marant cardigan (vintage Zara Wink - do you remember the black cashmere cardis with silver stripes - I bought mine for 15 euros and have gotten a surprising amount of wear from it).

Sheer black tights are black in fashion here in Italy - I've seen so many very young women looking exquisite in them. Need to get more of them.

Bonsoir · 14/11/2012 11:17

Mignonette - so very sorry to read about your cat. Take care of yourself.

It's freezing in Paris today - have my skinny cords and lace-up thick soled brown Tod's boots on, with my fur jacket again. Grrrrrrr.

mignonette · 14/11/2012 14:19

The weather is sunny, cool and the sky is a pale Winter blue. It is a beautiful day; pathetic fallacy not applying today...Have buried Thomas cat under a hazel tree on our allotment. He has his catnip Kong toy that he likes to lie full length on and we'll plant a Nepeta plant on top of his grave to reflect his slavish adoration of catnip. I am sorry for harping on about him and promise I'll try to not mention it again on this thread after today. This thread should be lighthearted as a counterpoint to all that is not, really.....I am just so distressed. I do not know what to do with myself today as the deaths of my Father and my cat have contracted together into one ball of pain....Had lovely email from our Vet though saying how sorry they are which really helps doesn't it, to have a little animals life and impact acknowledged like that....

Have my ochre cardigan on again, a burgundy cap sleeved H&M T shirt (absolutely rubbish quality and never again will I waste even £7:99 on their T's), a black MaxMara A line heavy Jersey skirt, black woollen tights and Marni Black heels with black woven crochet design appliqued onto them.

Bit of a mixed bag but dressing myself at all in anything other than PJ's is an achievement to be commented upon....

Why is it that H&M men's T shirts are of better quality fabric and construction than the womens? DH has quite a few of their T's and long sleeved T's and they don't stretch and twist around the body like the women's do. They are also less expensive. Bought DH a striped Henley long sleeve made from a good thermal style rib cotton for £7. Women's thin T's are £7:99+ for much much less.....Mystery???

I was reading this month's 'Elle' magazine and it has a lovely interview with Peaches Geldof and she is wearing the most delicious Jill Sander dress here is a photograph of it. The interview is actually very moving; talking of Paula Yates death, Peaches states that her Father made them go to school the next day as his mentality was "To keep calm and carry on as normal".

Peaches is looking very good these days and the interview made me view her with more compassion that I used to.

What do you all think of this coat? Not as an 'classic/forever' coat, rather a piece of on trend frivolity?

www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=1&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33057&storeId=12556&productId=6652074&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=208522&parent_categoryId=459528&pageSize=200

And further browsing has led me to this-

www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=1&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=33057&storeId=12556&productId=6098414&langId=-1&sort_field=Relevance&categoryId=208522&parent_categoryId=459528&pageSize=200

I am ordering these pants here from Atterley Road for myself-

I notice that Russell&Bromley have launched their first online shopping site, UK now and International soon. After seeing Victoria Beckham of all people in flats I may have to look for a pair of Monk fastening Brogues similar to the VB ones in her S/S1213 show. I do love a Fugly shoe.

Does anybody read the Patternity blog?- www.patternity.co.uk/

Reading this has heightened my awareness of pattern and texture in my environment generally and makes me want to enrol on that Jewellery design or Textile design course that I have been flirting with for Years. Having qualified in Horticulture and planting design years ago whilst working in Psychiatry in tandem (26 yrs to be precise) before it became such a mainstream occupation, my interest in Botanical design has always been there but it would be good to do something with it when perhaps I decide to move on from my current profession. For example, Whenever I see a lichen or moss I can see how I would turn it into a piece of Jewellery or a fabric.

I managed to have articles published in several mainstream gardening/planting design magazines back in the 80's and feel like I have some skills 'in the bank' so to speak. More and more I see the 'noughties' (for want of a better word) as a decade marked by cross pollination- we can use existing abilities and interests in ways that are not linear and in an unexpected fashion.
One thing i do find curious is when I read a description of a beauty product or perfume that contains the scent from a plant/or part of a plant that I know from my botanical studies does not have a scent or certainly not a scent that has the properties ascribed to it by the manufacturer! I realise that scents these days are not extracted in the time honoured tradition any more, but even with modern techniques, there is a great deal of disingenuity in the beauty world....

Finally, what fashion/beauty gifts do you plan to give this year? Who is getting what?

So far I have bought DD a Black rubber Marc Jacobs bracelet from MyWardrobe.com and this Anthropologie lace blouse

here

This Wang Racer T for her stocking - www.theoutnet.com/product/340661

and this Great Plains rabbit print cowl neck T here

Opinions please on this Bellerose dress versus the NW3 fox print dress here and

here which are both perfect for DD's style which is very quirky/prim if that doesn't sound like a contradiction....

This for MIL -www.theoutnet.com/product/349386www.theoutnet.com/product/330766

Am tempted by this coat for weekend casual for myself -
www.atterleyroad.com/clothing-womens/categories/womens-designer-coats/floretta-coat-4.html

Which of these scarves would you prefer for my Mother? She is adventurous with colour, print and designers, is small in width and height (!)

www.atterleyroad.com/womens-designer-accessories/categories/accessories/printed-scarf-1.html

www.atterleyroad.com/womens-designer-accessories/categories/accessories/worth-spot-print-scarf.html

I love Atterley Road so thank you to the poster who introduced me to this site.

shopafrolic · 14/11/2012 15:25

Mignonette - where to start? A beautiful spot for your cat to be laid to rest, my childhood rabbits were laid under the lavender bush in my parents garden and it still brings back memories as I pass....
I had meant to say how much I loved your lichen and natural textures on Pin. I took lots of photos of peeling tree barks at Kew a few years back and love the colours and texture. I can see how these could easily be interpreted into beautiful jewellery.
I haven't got time to look at all your links but I love the NW3 fox print dress for your DD and I already have my eye on the Mynuka scarves so my vote goes there.
I also love Atterley Road - I found it after a recommendation in Style magazine - it was set up by an ex Jigsaw designer I believe. In terms of Christmas gifts i have bought my niece the Christmas limited edition Chanel nail varnish - Malice. And the eyeshadow duo for my SIL. The Christmas colours came out last week and are beautiful.
Country clothing day today - rust coloured skinny cords, A&W camel and black striped sweater, Dubarry boots and my Chrysalis tweed Bloomsbury coat. Took DS to an animal farm where he has had so much fun riding on tractors and shouting MOOOOOO at cows!

I need to find a coat that I can wear day to day but also for evenings out with skinnies and heels. I am so tempted by the links that are being posted, I also want to try this
www.jigsaw-online.com/moss-tweed-peacoatjigsaw-clothing/fcp-product/5362 not sure about the colour if it is deep enough for me.....
and I love this as a classic which I think I would use again and again
www.atterleyroad.com/clothing-womens/categories/womens-designer-coats/camel-classic-coat-4.html
and this is also fab but I can't tell what colour it is as the video footage is more orange than red
www.atterleyroad.com/clothing-womens/categories/womens-designer-coats/double-breasted-coat-4.html
any preferences please?

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 14/11/2012 15:42

shopafrolic - I can't see your Jigsaw link. Of the two Maison Scotch coats you linked to, I much preferred the camel one. Have you looked at the Maison Scotch site, Scotch & Soda, directly? DD has quite a lot of stuff from Scotch R'belle, their girls line.

shopafrolic · 14/11/2012 15:46

Trying the Jigsaw link once more......

Shop-

I think you may have found me a coat [happy]. The Jigsaw Moss Tweed jacket/coat is just what I want and I didn't even know it. Oh thank you Flowers....You have no idea how annoying my coat search has been for me because 1) I have always struggled with finding my coat 'type' and 2) I feel the heat very easily and so cannot wear the snuggly 'coat coats' that I see other women looking wonderful in. Even if that particular Jigsaw coat isn't the one for me, I now have a real sense about the kind of coat I want, and more importantly the kind of coat that is 'me'...

Regarding your choice, I of course adore the Jigsaw but also really like the Maison Scotch red 'Princess/Crombie cross. it is an interesting cut and line because it has that slight graduated 'A' line from the yoke that suggests Princess yet has the sleekness and single back flap of a crombie. The photo's make it look red, the video suggests a more orange hue. Both are pleasing. of course, you know which shade will suit the clothing you wish to wear under it better.

The Camel coat has a great 'slouch' to it, like a modern version of the Zoot suit jackets with that longer line over the waist and hips. I can see this looking so cool both daytime and also thrown casually over really smart evening clothes. I once heard it said that you should "wear a cloth coat as though it were a fur and wear your fur as casually as if it were a cloth coat". Can you imagine this with a YSL style Tux underneath with the coat draped over your shoulders? Or worn with a cocktail dress, spiked Manolos and bare legs? Very city chic. Very nonchalant (though of course it wouldn't be!)

Would love to see a photograph of your clothing choices, Shop. They are a Microcosm of autumnal shades (if that is the right term) and the A&W stripe sweater....I imagine that adds a really interesting twist...I am especially curious about your Chrysalis Tweed coat as I do love a Tweed. Have you seen all the Harris Tweed products that are a result of the company diversifying and broadening its customer base? Harris Tweed headphones, covered hipflasks, beautiful rustic yet modern washbags and weekend bags for Next....

Also your Kew pictures...can you pin them? Am always on the look out for tree bark. The melange of colours of Autumnal Eucalyptus bark would make the most beautiful fabric, I think.

mignonette · 14/11/2012 15:48

Darn it....Thanks for shop for coat finding....

shopafrolic · 14/11/2012 16:17

Hurrah! Some good news today then Mignon - all my clothes are on Pin if you want to see pictures. The A&W striped knit is there on my AW12 board.
I have no idea how to pin actual photos onto Pin so I will investigate and see if I can get the bark up there. If not and you are happy to then PM me your email and I can email you them.......
The Chrysalis coat is here
www.bredonhillshooting.co.uk/chrysalis-bloomsbury-tweed-bel1a/p819
MUCH better in real life - shooting websites have no idea how to make clothes look good! I have seen the Harris Tweed for NEXT - not sure how good the quality would be?.......
Am seriously tempted to get the camel coat...........

Bonsoir I looked on the S&S website but can't spot the coat - perhaps it's not this season?

DonaAna · 14/11/2012 16:34

Enjoying the coat talk.

I made another AW purchase - another sweater from Filippa K. Loving the minimalism of it.

shopafrolic · 14/11/2012 16:34

Mignon - I have posted 3 pics to my Mumsnet profile (they have been resized so don't look as good as the originals) but they should give you the general idea. They were taken in 2005 and I have no recollection as to what tree the grey and camel coloured bark was on but I loved it.....

Found a £25 off Atterley Road voucher online and that has swung it. I've ordered the Maison Scotch camel coat in a 12 and a 14 (fingers crossed for free returns!) and will try it on. I think it could work well within my existing wardrobe and would have solved my problem on Saturday night. Will report back on quality and fit.
Love the sweater Dona

Shop

Good luck with the coat- good choice and it will never ever date...
The Harris Tweed range from Next is endorsed by the Harris Company so would imagine the range is pretty good. I love the headphone collaboration too. I have these all on Pin. cannot get onto your profile for some reason but will definitely have a look at your today clothing choices as they do sound great.

You can pin photo's from your 'my photos' file on your computer/laptop. Go onto settings and Pin tells you what to do. My DD had to show me-I am a complete Troglodyte with I.T. I'll PM you later- have a pile of Christmas online shopping to get through plus boring old bills....

Dona I like your Filippa K sweater; the weave looks soft. Winter White has a gentle glow so much more suited to the often glaring harshness of Winter sun hasn't it? Frames the face and neck in a kinder manner. Atterley Road has Filippa K on sale when I shopped there today and yesterday.

Have had a browse and commented Shop. I am following you, I believe. Am getting Hobbs Pug T for DD-she will likely cry with delight when she sees that print.

MarshaBrady · 15/11/2012 10:59

Morning lovely ones.

Dona love your new Filippa K. Looks very warm and cosy.

Mignonette sorry to hear about your beloved cat Sad. And your Father too. Yes you write well about scents and design, you should go for it. I love the Bellerose dress and the Farhi scarf. What great discounts going to check that site out.

Bonsoir the Jil Sander sounds divine, I think you should go for it! I loved an oversized Marant in Liberty but dithered and I can't believe they actually did sell out right at the beginning of the season (may have been etoile as it wasn't hugely expensive). I love your autumn Paris outfit. I think I will get some skinny cords in the sales.

Shop I love the green Jigsaw coat.

Hopefully your legging and cream silk shirt outfit for client lunch is sublime. I would love to have that outfit.

Hi Fritzi great to see you on here. Love burgundy skinny cords with fake fur.

Marni does amazing colours, all a little 'off'. I have a difficult yellow Marni tshirt on its way now, have yet to be able to wear Marni colours but will see what it's like.

MarshaBrady · 15/11/2012 11:06

Love the camel coat too Shop

Went to a great party last night. Can't beat a really good party. Good guests, fabulous fun. Did wear the Lanvin but failed to get a decent shot (apols, apols I will I will I have more parties). The only thing is it creases like nothing else. I need tactics to keep the grosgrain ribbon type pleats straight and uncreased.

MarshaBrady · 15/11/2012 11:13

Pop hope work is good, if busy then good busy. For some reason the busy up to my eyebrows made me smile. And Grin at déclassé right down to bone structure.

This is the Marni tshirt. I rathered liked the 70 per cent off bit too of course. Will see if I can wear Marni yellow.

mignonette · 15/11/2012 11:22

The Marni yellow is perfect Marsha. I love a yellow. It is pink that doesn't suit me. Bet that Marni would look good with a darker Grey (Charcoal) and a Burgundy/OxBlood. I'd also try it with a darker blue, maybe Airforce and Slate blue alongside navy. Another trick is to wear a lighter vest or thin T underneath so that a little of the colour shows around the edges of the yellow if you aren't sure about it next to your skin....

DonaAna · 15/11/2012 11:38

Ooh great purchases!
I absolutely love the Marni tee Marsha! On our way to Tuscany - we'll whizz past the Prada outlet in about 2 hrs. We are not entering - am not masochistic enough to go outlet shopping with 2 DC...

mignonette · 15/11/2012 11:41

Ha ha you have more self control than I would have Dona. We've just booked flights to Alghero for a mid week break in December (when it is quiet). Need to get away....
