Thanks all - the blouse is a chalky white so I'll try it with the cream laser and the Sportmax coat. I really appreciate your input. Seem to have a last minute attack of nerves!
Dashing now but will read all the other tales soon. Have lovely evenings all.

I'm not at all impressed by Martin Margiela @ H&M. I noted the date in my diary ages ago but I'm not sure I'll bother going. So disappointing as I loved Marni @ H&M and got amazing wear out of it all.

DonaAna · 11/11/2012 20:56

I like the MMM collection but am not sure whether I'll drag myself to Corso to queue for them. Many of the pieces are conceptual statement makers, but to go to places where I would wear a sculptural dress with a third sleeve (say an opening), would I take the risk that someone else or quite a few others would be making the same statement? Plus I already have a MMM leather skirt.

Great weekend, drove to Frascati in the morning and spent the afternoon at MAXXI, children amok among architectural mockups. There is a film festival going on in our part of town and we are leaving for Tuscany on Thursday.

Pop great to hear from you!

MarshaBrady · 11/11/2012 21:11

Pop yes love that outfit and great to hear from you.

Mignon how lovely to have great shots of your ds. Will ponder on the coat thing.

Shop how was last night?

Sounds lovely Dona.

I haven't seen the MM at HM stuff yet. Will check it out.

Wore new winter white (yes that's winter white Grin) angora acne today to lunch at favourite place. Had a glass of champagne (really I do the same all the time) and then some lovely lamb. I took the jumper off when I got home, all my jumpers are getting so worn that I want to keep just one thing that is pristine as possible. No toddler hand prints.

mignonette · 12/11/2012 15:53

Popcornia

That is a lovely Damson-y shade and works so well with the snake shoes. I love Sandro.

My son has some MMM- a jacket, sweaters and a weird T shirt thingy. I' m more than happy wearing the odder clothes but the Hennes collaboration has poor fabrics- MMM really needs the good fabric to make the difficult cuts to hang properly. Same with some of the TopShop collabs; look great in editorial-not so good in the flesh.

Still coat hunting. It will be Spring before I find one. Tried on an Ocelot print fake fur Peter Pan coloured 60's style coat and whilst I loved the coat, it did not love me. I looked like a furry overgrown child. I like the cocoon coats but am not tall. COS coats are lovely. Think it'll be yet another Crombie style (yawn).

Marsha- winter white fluff- that is fashion bravery with children!

Spent Saturday clearing out the cellar which despite it's conversion, has ended up as a dumping ground since DD moved out. After a lot of taking of stuff to charity shops, we now have a bright 'new' music room and library. And I found a suitcase full of clothes which is always a lovely surprise-mostly Summer stuff but some really lovely dresses I had forgotten about- the Blush

shopafrolic · 12/11/2012 16:52

Hi all! Apologies for radio silence yesterday - I was a little the worse for wear. Too much Prosecco and then Limoncello - they made me do it and I regretted it all of Sunday. I can't bear limoncello - to me it tastes of lemony soap and yet I still went there. I obviously have more growing up to do this decade!
In terms of outfit, the grey blazer actually worked really well and kept the look quite structured so thanks all as I probably wouldn't have tried it and would have frozen instead.
The prospect of a white sweater with 21mth old DS.........Hmm
The music room sounds fantastic Mignon my dream space - it sounds perfect.
I have been given gift vouchers for John Lewis and Jones the Bootmaker so am now considering next purchases. I'm watching the coat hunting ideas with interest.

I went to Uniqlo today and there are lots of really very nice and bargainous ultra-thin down jackets (well under EUR 100), including one which was slightly trapeze shaped with a shawl collar. If I were really in need of a warm coat I would buy one right now, and carry on looking for the über-elegant coat-of-my-dreams.

MarshaBrady · 13/11/2012 14:29

It's because I have child-free time these days. That's the only reason why it has entered my wardrobe Grin. It's safe in nice crisp tissue paper in my drawer when children are here.

Oh yes to music room and library Mignonette. How lovely.

Shop sounds like a great night, good work on the vouchers.

I have ordered some outnet stuff, but not sure on it. Will report back if anything good.

MarshaBrady · 13/11/2012 14:29

Looking forward to seeing the über-elegant coat-of-your-dreams Bonsoir.

mignonette · 13/11/2012 14:34

The luxury of space now children flying the nest helps mitigate missing them!

I have so many books and DVDs and cannot chuck out many as i do collect them. I also operate an informal lending library to friends/colleagues, Smile.

Clothing heading the same way.....

Still no coat. Padded coats just do not suit me. I have a lovely parka that is years old which will do for most every day things and a nice cream cashmere mix formal coat plus the usual collection of blazers/jackets but a proper coat has always been the elusive item for me.

DonaAna · 13/11/2012 15:05

Bonsoir I think ultra-thin is the key.
I'm normally absolutely not padded coat wearer.
I feel like a Russian peasant in them.
(My mother taught me about fur and it's difficult to wear anything else after getting used to the smooth warmth of a good mink coat.)

Last year I found a very good olive green down coat at an outlet for less than 50? (likely marked down because it has very slim sleeves - perfect for me) - it's slightly quilted but not Michelin man puffy. I wear it a lot because it's warm and easy but I feel much more stylish in a navy pea coat or a full length wool coat or a fur coat.

I have a freaky number of coats. Not sure how many, but more than 20 definitely. And still always on the lookout for a new one...

Bonsoir · 13/11/2012 15:22

Marsha - I tried on a really fabulous oversize houndstooth check coat in Jil Sander a month or two ago. That is my current coat of my dreams! But I don't know when I'd wear it!

Hopefully · 13/11/2012 17:07

Loving the chat here at the moment, but struggling to find time to post!

Am sporting my leather leggings today. I really do rather love them. Teamed them with cream oversized silk shirt and purple patent LKB pointy courts for client lunch today.

Hopefully · 13/11/2012 17:08

And also they are nice and warm in the autumn chill!

Bonsoir · 13/11/2012 18:40

Hopefully - I agree about the autumn chill - it's freezing here in Paris. I wore my navy J Brand skinny cords, a white man's style shirt, my new fake fur jacket and a navy woolly hat today! With my ever-faithful Tod's black suede flat ankle boots for all those Paris kilometres, and my black Goyard leather tote that I bought in 2000 and recently got out again and love! Both roomy and very elegant.

mignonette · 13/11/2012 18:45

Bonsoir

I have always loved cords. I found an old pair of rust coloured needlecord pants at the bottom of a suitcase whilst clearing out the cellar but they are a bit bootleg. The shape is a flattering one but unsure as to the bootleg these days. it just doesn't suit my style these days. Hopefully that'll change as they are beautiful.

Loving all the fake fur especially the 50's and 60's style short little coats with peter pan colours and brightly coloured silk linings. That flash of colour is so modern next to the fur....

Am in old purple Alberta Ferretti dress, Ochre yellow cardigan from Gap years ago, black tights and ancient Frye Boots. Colour combination sounds foul but it works in a Fugly way!

Am otherwise miserable because my cat has disappeared, totally out of character and I feel helpless as to what to do now it is dark....

Bonsoir · 13/11/2012 18:54

Oh no, mignonette Sad! I hope your cat turns up soon!

I love ochre, and especially for cardigans. I have a once-gorgeous, much-loved fine ochre cashmere cardigans from Whistles that I bought in February 2009 and is beginning to droop. It has an amazing cut - could be Marni. I am very sad that it only has one summer left in it. I especially love those ugly colours over silk blouses...

Can you sew up your cords from the knee to make them skinny?

Hopefully · 13/11/2012 19:19

I am having a 'suit' (double breasted waistcoat and pencil skirt) made in a lovely yellow ochre silk/cotton twill at the moment, it's shaping up brilliantly. The fabric is Prada (I know a shop in Brighton that buys ends of bolts from the factories that produce for Prada, d&g, Cavalli and a couple of randoms that I've never heard of), so is gorgeous quality.

Hopefully · 13/11/2012 19:20

mig Sad, hope your cat turns up soon.

mignonette · 13/11/2012 19:24

That cardigan sounds lovely Bonsoir. Could you not ask a dressmaker to put some stiffenings into the seams? Sometimes a rejig is possible, I'm keen on getting clothes altered and should have the cords taken in as they are such a rich glowing colour. I often have my cardigan plackets/button panels lined with coloured Grosgrain ribbon to give body and a flash of colour be it clashing or complimentary.

You have reminded me-my brain is all consumed with horrid-cat-fate-scenarios tonight and I do not know whether I am being premature in worrying or not....Sad

I'm all about the Fugly. Prada, Miu Miu and Marni are my go to for that as their clothes seem to me to be for a woman who likes dressing for herself, not to attract a man. Not that that's a bad thing but I like their philosophy.

mignonette · 13/11/2012 19:24

I mean 'you have reminded me to alter my cords' Bon

mignonette · 13/11/2012 19:27

Hopefully

what a great idea- a bespoke suit. Near my parents' is a famous silk mill that makes Paul Smith fabrics amongst others. I have bought upholstery fabric and ticking for sheets from there. I must find out what other designers they manufacture for. They wove the silks for most of the recent Royal wedding dresses-Diana's was one although I probably wouldn't boast about that meringue Smile.....
