Thanks Dexter I'll have a look at them. Saw photographs of Marguerite Missoni's wedding this summer and it looked so beautiful although i didn't like her dress so much...

MarshaBrady · 09/11/2012 11:07

Dona which ones are your new tall snug boots? They sound lovely. And aw thanks. I have been feeling a bit bleurgh with wardrobe. And I think I've worked out it's actually it's because my school run has increased in time since the new school. And it is uninspiring, I'm looking at other ways to get ds1 to school. Also it was lovely to chat to people in central London, and feel that buzz about work again and I liked the not wearing the usual.

Shop love rose gold too. Love the watch. How lovely, all your presents.

Mignon your work sounds intense. And yes to Vogue, and Natalia V's wacky photo shoot! If that were me, I'd say no wackiness thanks. I always wonder why photographers do those shoots that require a model to jump in the air and look like they're having 'fun'.

Marsha I ordered my boots from The Bootmakers - The Balmoral (look better irl than in the pic). Quite basic, but fit me perfectly and they are easy to get on and off, have rubber soles and feel soft and bouncy under my feet unlike many other boots that start hurting my feet on extended walks. My legs are my best part, but also very far from average - extra long, extra skinny calves with very bony skinny ankles and long narrow feet. These might be the first boots ever that really have fitted me. Normal off the peg boots are one several inches too wide at calves which creates a really awkward silhouette and alterations are not straightforward as boots are often cut too wide at the ankle too. I walked perhaps 5km in the new boots yesterday and liked them so much that ordered another (even taller) pair in brown.

I have two Missoni scarves (one from eBay, another from a TK Maxx type discounter in the US). They are really good - add color and style to simple and plain winter outfits. Can recommend them.

I have a hard time finding enough hours for working. Although our household is not big, I want to spend a few hours each day with DC and there is still quite a lot to coordinate, plus my work requires regular trips abroad. Our Nanny has started picking up DD2 from school on several days, which in return extends my working time that day by 2 hours (until 5pm). This morning I was really extravagant: took an 1 hr brisk walk at 9, then showered+did hair+prepared lunch, and only after that started to work. I need some exercise and do not like gyms - I much prefer sunshine at the local park, but as it now gets dusky and dark before 5pm figuring out how to do it is not simple. Tradeoffs, tradeoffs...

Gorgeous watch Shop!

Outfit of the day: Filippa K sweater, black miniskirt and black opaques and sheepskin boots. Stuck in a rut? Hmm

mignonette · 10/11/2012 15:14

Am wanting to bundle up like a ready to hibernate bear today- camel angora/cotton cardigan of no particular note, Grey Helmut Lang cigarette pants of ancient provenance, pale blue blouse from Heimstone (discovered this brand in Paris), Jasper Conran Western styled ankle boots and my new Mimi Holliday bra from Cocosa-only £24, bargain.

Dona - nice boots. had a browse and the Kensington suede caught my eye too. I do love suede and nubuck.

Marsha I love my profession and being based in the community but sectioning people against their will is never pleasant especially at night when you have to wait for so many other professionals to turn up-GP, Social Worker, police (if problems anticipated), psychiatrist, relatives etc. All unnecessarily distressing. Most of my day is much lower key but on calls are by nature, unpredictable especially bank holidays and weekends. Better than being stuck on the wards though- I left ward work for the community as soon as I could! Where (if you can say) is roughly your line of work? Can you dress as you like?

Who else has restrictions on their clothing choices re work? I cannot wear anything that reveals too much; not that I ever dressed like that anyway. I have always covered up. No dangling necklaces, earrings that can be grabbed, short skirts at work etc for me. Otherwise, no restrictions on colour/style or even smartness.

MarshaBrady · 10/11/2012 15:39

Dona they are lovely. I agree it's hard with the looming darkness to find time to go running and I much prefer to be outside than a gym too. I love swimming and swam up to 39 weeks pg with ds2, but these days the thought of all the faff and changing puts me off!

I need some nice boots to walk kms in too, as I tend to do with ds2. Since I didn't keep the rain boots that I couldn't get off.

Oh that must be very hard Mignonette. And yes must be quite a big thing to do, with many turning up to ensure it happens.

I usually work from home, when I do have clients or go in then it's usually a trendy place in Soho, Covent Garden, Farringdon etc. All that kind of creative services stuff. It is the type of work that thrives on the energy and competitiveness of the young to meet the hours they want. Ie long hours, people who don't have to get home. As you get older you have to think of clever ways to keep working if you want to, ie more flexible. I do it off and on, and I do enjoy it as well as other personal work.

I can wear nearly what I wear now. But a tiny bit smarter. So might go for skirt and sweater plus Kors heels. But it's not hugely necessary and some of the younger ones wear whatever they like. But not really client-facing.

MarshaBrady · 10/11/2012 15:42

Oh and bought this acne angora sweater today as had a Liberty voucher and am very low on knitwear.

Oh just realised that's MSGM. Ok the winter white version of the acne one that is the same.

Plus it's sold out at Matches so didn't feel too bad about not waiting for the sales.

MarshaBrady · 10/11/2012 15:51

This one.

mignonette · 10/11/2012 16:02

Oh that is pretty Marsha. I have seen a similar ACNE sweater in palest lime- here

I love their clothes and bought my son one of their sweaters.

This is my Mimi Holliday bra, arrived this morning, here

Your work place and type sounds vibrant. My son was a baby model and attended so many castings in that part of London. The shoots/filmings were invariably set in the less 'salubrious' parts of town though- industrial estates in Acton and freezing warehouse studios in Old St....

Hi all, just checking in in advance of cocktails and dinner tonight with 11 girlfriends. I am going to keep the outfit quite simple I think.

And the watch.
I also have a huge cocktail ring and my clutch

What do you all think. Am I being too dull as birthday girl?

OP posts:
mignonette · 10/11/2012 16:38

I didn't know Gina did bags, Shop.

Not dull at all- classic clothes are never dull and your chino's are not only a lovely colour but look very sharp as they are cut closer to the leg and ankle. I do like an exposed ankle with high heels. Together with your beaded clutch, it instantly says 'evening'.

shopafrolic · 10/11/2012 16:41

Thank you! I was getting a little worried. You have calmed my nerves.
Love the ACNE sweaters and your beautiful bargain bra!

Bonsoir · 10/11/2012 16:49

shopaholic - your outfit is lovely and you just need my brand new über glam fake fur jacket from Bellerose (or similar) to finish it off! What coat were you planning on wearing?

Bonsoir · 10/11/2012 16:49

shopafrolic Blush sorry!

shopafrolic · 10/11/2012 16:54

Ooooo link to the coat Bonsoir or drop it round!! Grin
That is my main issue. I am a little light on coats so I may have to go without - not sure my cream Whistles blazer will work. Only other options are black fitted blazer, grey blazer, long black fake fur, Barbour or my MaxMara grey coat but it is huge and snugly!

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 10/11/2012 16:59

How about the huge and snuggly MaxMara, and belt it with a non-matching belt, tied à la Martin Margiela?

MarshaBrady · 10/11/2012 16:59

Shop I love it! So chic.

Mignon thanks. It's quite good but so very different from parent-life that I find myself hopping from one world to the next when it feels too claustrophobic. Madness. How cute re modeling!

Bonsoir · 10/11/2012 17:01

Here. I bought it on a shopping spree to Brussels yesterday. I wore it today with the collar up and a nude décolleté, skinny cords and high sheepskin/sued wedge ankle boots.

MarshaBrady · 10/11/2012 17:01

I like Bonsoir's idea too, Max Mara sounds really lovely.

MarshaBrady · 10/11/2012 17:07

Lovely Bonsoir!

shopafrolic · 10/11/2012 17:15

This is the coat........ I'm not sure......

That coat is fabulous Bonsoir

mignonette · 10/11/2012 17:23

Bonsoir

That is one coat of fabulosity.....And a new place for me to browse (shop)....

Shop - i would go with the big snuggly coat too because it is a great contrast to the sleek lines of your outfit underneath. Belted with either a wide grosgrain ribbon or leather belt is a wonderful idea of Bonsoirs. Grey, too goes well with pale creams and whites and especially well with those pants.

Of the others, I can't quite make out if your shirt is cream or white on my screen but I do think cream blazers can look really elegant with a top of the same shade, a darker pant and an evening shoe. The total effect just looks expensive and understated. I wouldn't wear black with that pale clutch and shoe.

Marsha -my son was scouted in the street by an employee of the Elizabeth Smith Modelling Agency. Not something I would have considered and we quit when he was two after a make up artist warned me I'd end up like the parents of some of the older children on a commercial he was filming- some of them had told their children's schools that they weren't to play out in the playground in the 5 days before a job because of the risk of scabs/bruises etc! I was appalled, said so to the baby wrangler and make up artist and that's when that was said to me. DS got the cover of Mother&Baby Magazine and Parents and did some TV and editorial. It was interesting but bizarre. Having a chauffered car sent to collect him once, seeing the driver standing at the station with son's name on a card and his look of shock when instead of a business person, a 5 month old baby in a car seat turned up!

mignonette · 10/11/2012 17:25

Love the coat but might it be quite dominating over what is such a light, elegant outfit, Shop? Obviously I cannot see what they look like together but maybe the cream or grey blazer would work?

Bonsoir · 10/11/2012 17:27

Thanks Smile. I'd been looking at down jackets - there are loads of parka-style ones around this year - and just couldn't bring myself to spend all that money on something that really doesn't flatter me (I've tried 100s, in loads of makes, to come to that conclusion). And then I was in Bellerose, shopping for DD, when I spotted that fake fur which was both cheaper (EUR 189) and a lot more glamorous than a down jacket. Not so waterproof, but hey-ho, you can't have it all...

mignonette · 10/11/2012 17:32

I have to buy a new coat and I am dithering over it. I have plenty of old coats but feel it is time for something new. here is the kind of style that I like as it is a departure from what I have but do not want to break the bank price wise.

I do like fake furs but being five feet 2, I kind of look like a diminutive honey monster in them if I am not careful. I do not wear real fur.

I have a parka for banging about every day in, a cream cashmere classic MaxMara and plenty of jackets. I just want something new....Suggestions anyone

Oh, and I feel the heat easily so nothing too snuggly or padded.
