Okay so what's the knack - wearing ankle boots with skinny jeans?

So, I finally found a nice pair of ankle boots yesterday but can I get my skinny cords to look right with them? No! Admittedly the cords have a 33" leg which my legs aren't quite long enough for Grin. How should they sit? Tuck them in and they look really tucked in and daft. Out and over the top of the boots looks plain stupid. What length should my cords be? Do I need to get the cords taken up? Roll them up Hmm.

Help please!

Are you boots quite tight at the top? I find it easier to tuck skinnies into ankle boots if they are wider at the top then they sit better.

A difficult one!! I don't think skinny jeans ever look quite right with ankle boots as they always seem to wrinkle up. I always wear my ankle boots with leggings. Jeans, Imho, only look ok with longer boots.

dexter73 · 14/10/2012 15:25

I quite like them wrinkling up at the ankle!

Millie1 · 14/10/2012 15:26

Yes, they are quite tight Dexter

The skinny jeans I was wearing yesterday sat okay with them but the cords just won't. Gah! I have mega-skinny calves so don't know if I can do the leggings and ankle boots look?

I like them wrinkly at the ankle too. I sometimes wrinkle mine at the bottom n purpose and put them over my boots. That sounds strange, now I think about it, but that's the way I one see them styled in magazines etc.

Millie1 · 14/10/2012 16:01

Okay, shall give that a go when I get five mins child-free time!! Thanks!

I like the wrinkles as well. They can also look good with the hems turned over a bit, just resting on the boots or is that because I can't be arsed to hem them?

MaureenCognito · 14/10/2012 16:11

ok i have zipped ones since last year.

i dont do zips right up, jeans rest in out on boot, messily

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/10/2012 16:15

Your jeans need to be super skinny in my experience to fit inside the boot

MaureenCognito · 14/10/2012 16:16

i dont like a tidy fit meself, it makes you look like noddys mum

noddyholder · 14/10/2012 16:21

Ha ha! Just put jeans on. Then put boots on and DON'T FIDDLE.

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/10/2012 16:22

But you are long and leggy - I alas am not.

I just couldn't do undone zips and wrinkles [hyachinth]

noddyholder · 14/10/2012 16:23

I think if you have to fiddle too much its not for you. Otherwise you need the dreaded jeggings.

Trills · 14/10/2012 16:24

Is that a brown mum boot I spy?

MaureenCognito · 14/10/2012 16:25

i was being polite trills

noddyholder · 14/10/2012 16:25

Too smart and yes you are veering into lulu/loose woman territory

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/10/2012 16:27

Oh I'm always smart - I just look wrong scruffy.

dexter73 · 14/10/2012 16:30

I was born scruffy. I think it is hard to look smart when you have mad curly hair!

noddyholder · 14/10/2012 16:30

You need super tight then like jeggings so that they don't move.

noddyholder · 14/10/2012 16:31

I am not scruffy but not over smart either I suppose. I have a lot of hair too and not keen on brushing it!

MaureenCognito · 14/10/2012 16:31

nod theres a thread in hommage to mrs holder

Trills · 14/10/2012 16:32

The opposite of smart is not scruffy, it's "relaxed" or "dressed down" or something else.

What would they say if it were Alexa Chung or someone like that?

noddyholder · 14/10/2012 16:38

Effortless Wink

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/10/2012 17:13

Alexa spends hours perfecting that effortless look I'm sure.

Millie1 · 14/10/2012 17:26

Mum boots??. Please, someone, say they aren't! Anyway, bugger it if they are cos I like them Grin.

These cords won't work with them unless I get them shortened. There's just too much spare fabric to do the just pulled on look. Agree that I would need super skinny to tuck in - the Sevens I had on yesterday are very skinny and looked good. These Uniglos aren't. Two inches off the hem I think.

Thanks all!
