Okay so what's the knack - wearing ankle boots with skinny jeans?

So, I finally found a nice pair of ankle boots yesterday but can I get my skinny cords to look right with them? No! Admittedly the cords have a 33" leg which my legs aren't quite long enough for Grin. How should they sit? Tuck them in and they look really tucked in and daft. Out and over the top of the boots looks plain stupid. What length should my cords be? Do I need to get the cords taken up? Roll them up Hmm.

Help please!

Skinnies are great with knee high boots Morris. And you chucked yours out Shock? I'm wearing my grey Uniglo skinnies with my brown Duo Brindisi boots today - cant get them to work with the damn ankle boots Angry. Still, once I have done some housework, am coming back to order them in aubergine and then both pairs can go to the dressmaker to loose around 1.5 inches.

But, back to the boots linked to in original post - any ideas what I ought to wear them with or will it be back to HoF for a refund and back to the drawing board for me?

29 too big Shock Envy

OP, they are not mum boots, just very nice in my opinion.

I'd wear cords with basic flats, brogues or knee high/ankle boots.

For ankle boots I turn up the hem of the cords a bit and go for the slouch. Or just put them on and 'don't fiddle' as someone mentioned earlier. Or even do it the Garance Dore way and turn the cords up from the inside instead, a sort of up-tuck until they're the required length for you.

I also love to wear them with knee high boots over the top, if I can massage out the wrinkles that form at knees.

Thanks millie, I did wear skinnies with knee highs at the weekend but was too hot! Will wait for proper cold snap. I chucked out my bootcuts, but they had it coming. Skinnies 4 eva now.

The Uniqlo cords are mahoosive, I'm a 10 with a massive bum and got the 26, and they fit nicely but aren't super skinny at all, nearer straight in fact. I do like them though. I would normally be chuffed if I fitted into a 29 so I was Grin in the shop.

If wearing smaller numbers makes you happy go to Gap. Their jeans stretch loads so you have to buy them small.

MaureenCognito · 15/10/2012 22:45

Are on ebay. Fit fresh on but will stretch I know

Trills I have Gap chinos in size 2 Grin a UK 6. Bought when I was prob nearer a 12. Love it.

choceyes · 16/10/2012 11:16

yes I have Gap skinny jeans in a size 0, and I'm usually a UK 8. Grin

I also have this problem of wearing skinnies with ankle boots. I've decided that flat and slouchy is indeed the way to go as a pp mentioned. You have to have very tight skinnies in order to tuck them in and then it looks odd with a heel (I suppose it does really depend on the person, it just doesn't suit me). I'm only 5'2 so I do need the extra height, but it still doesn't look OK. I like to wear my knee boots with a heel though.

I recently bought a pair of DM Binky boots to go with tight skinnies (and even not to tight skinnies as they are so roomy at the top it doesn't matter if the jeans bunch up) and also short dresses with leggings or tights.

I've come to the conclusion that the ankle boots with skinnies look is basically not flattering. Was up in London on Sunday and spent some time people-watching and really, no-one looks good in the look. If you're tall and slim you can 'get away with it' but it's simply not flattering. Whether they are flat or heeled, they chop you off at the ankle and shorten your legs. They look good with opaques and short skirt/dress, but not with trousers.

There are numerous threads and posters on here stressing about how to wear them. Any item that takes that much effort to style just isn't a good buy.

For that reason, I'm out Grin

Getting knee high riding boots for dresses etc, and giving up on style and wearing black Uggs with skinnies this winter, or riding boots over my superskinnies. If I want to look smart, I'll do heels with skinnies (rolled up or superskinny) which is much more flattering.

I have just bought these for my skinnies www.blowfishshoes.co.uk/boots-1788/aerin

I love them Blush and I think they look great

dexter73 · 16/10/2012 20:05

How are riding boots more flattering than ankle boots as they cut you off at the knee making your legs look about 3" long?

HoopDePoop · 16/10/2012 20:28

They make your legs double length dexter . They def lengthen my calves, which is all that's on display by the time you have a coat on too.

dexter73 · 16/10/2012 20:40

Not convinced Hoop!
