Okay so what's the knack - wearing ankle boots with skinny jeans?

So, I finally found a nice pair of ankle boots yesterday but can I get my skinny cords to look right with them? No! Admittedly the cords have a 33" leg which my legs aren't quite long enough for Grin. How should they sit? Tuck them in and they look really tucked in and daft. Out and over the top of the boots looks plain stupid. What length should my cords be? Do I need to get the cords taken up? Roll them up Hmm.

Help please!

An alternative would be to wear long/chunky socks, tuck the jeans into them and scrunch the socks down, so they just poke out of the top of the boots.

This works best as a casual look i.e. with a long woolly jumper and flat ankle boots, not if you are heading off for a night out.

Karbea · 14/10/2012 19:56

Make sure you're wearing dark socks, I often wear white or pink and it looks dreadful!

Karbea · 14/10/2012 19:58

Oh I don't have them visible like the above post, but I'm sure the socks peak out in between boot and jean to wave at theworld!

dexter73 · 14/10/2012 20:12

I wouldn't worry about someone calling them mum boots . It is now obligatory to call any boot linked to a mum boot on S&B!

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/10/2012 20:14

Quite Dexter. I'm currently wearing Pistols which are mum boots according to some on S&B - they're wrong though Wink

dexter73 · 14/10/2012 20:17

I don't even know what a mum boot is any more nor do I care!. Pistols are yum and are definitely not mumboots or are they....

CockBollocks · 14/10/2012 20:24

I was going to say socks to, the boots are quite narrow so might need something chunky!!

Trills · 14/10/2012 20:27

Nope, only ankle boots with mid-low blocky heels.

Millie1 · 14/10/2012 20:27

Pistols .... mum boots? No waaaay.

Dexter - IIRC you also bought the Uniglo skinny cords ... and then told the rest of us how wonderful they are! Did you order either of the purples? I'd like an aubergine colour and think that one of the purples looks the right shade - the darker one. You don't have them, per chance?

You are correct Wink - I have the burgundy colour cords and my mum boots are these. They sort of just wrinkle up and sit on the top of them. I do the 'pull on and go' look as you could go mad worrying about how your jeans/boots combo looks!

Trills · 14/10/2012 20:33

Those are not mum boots.

Not that I'm an expert or anything.

I want the bootcut cords in the colours that the skinny cords come in, dammit.

(yes, shoot me, I like bootcuts)

dexter73 · 14/10/2012 20:34

I want the skinny cords in the navy that the bootcuts come in!

uoYekorByMredluomS · 14/10/2012 20:38

My rule with super skinnies and ankle boots is that the boots have to be flat and slouchy otherwise it doesn't work.

Millie1 · 14/10/2012 20:47

Hmmm. Okay, so let's approach this from another angle. What should I wear with my mum boots?? They're the first pair of non flat boots, or shoes for that matter, which I have bought for about 5 years Blush and I want that extra 2"!

Dexter thanks - I was pretty certain you had purchased one of the two purples. Navy would be nice! Though you linked to the super skinny jeans in another thread and they come in navy - an alternative? Am going to order them with the cords as I really need another pair of skinnies.

It doesn't matter if boots are mum boots as long as you like them :)

I want the aubergine cords.

MrsCampbellBlack · 14/10/2012 21:04

Superdry superskinny cords are very good too.

I am too short for flat ankle boots - I need the height of heels for leg lenthening purposes.

dexter73 · 14/10/2012 21:11

The Uniqlo superskinnys are very skinny. I have them in the blue and they are lovely. I am tempted to get tem in navy too. If you spend over £60 use the code ocado10 and you will get £10 off.

Millie1 · 14/10/2012 21:29

Shall take a look, thank you, MrsCB - what sort of rise are they? I need a generous medium rise!!

Thanks for that code Dexter - will be using it.

TooMuchRain · 14/10/2012 22:17

I just tried the code but it didn't work - perhaps it was a singe use one?

TooMuchRain · 14/10/2012 22:18

oops no, it does work, just I cut and paste and there was a space - thanks!

dexter73 · 15/10/2012 07:20

Glad it worked!Grin

polyhymnia · 15/10/2012 08:29

I have this problem too - am in process of buying new flat but hopefully non frumpy ankle boots (Russell and Bromley are current front runners) and going into shop to try them on with various jeans is driving me mad. How to wear with skinnies a particular problem.

dexter when you say your cords sort of wrinkle up over your Clarks boots ( I know and like that style - it's on my possibles list). But don't you find it spoils the way the skinnies hang on the rest of the leg? That always seems to happen to me.

dexter73 · 15/10/2012 08:49

No it is just at the bottom that they wrinkle. The rest of the cords are ok!

MorrisZapp · 15/10/2012 09:04

Don't start me off!

This was a revelatory year for me - the year in which I finally understood the joy of skinny jeans. Despite my terror, they have proved to be total life changers. In a good way.

But now it is cold, and ballet flats won't cut it any more. And I'm wishing I hadn't thrown out my many many pairs of bootcuts, because I'm damned if I can make skinnies work with any form of shoe that has laces.

Struggling also with tucking into boots. Just not sure about the whole thing. They don't tell you this on that bright sunny day when you buy your first skinnies and prance gleefully in front of your DP, soaking up the compliments.
