Is Barbour chavvy?

I want this one

but recently went up north and a lot of young 'less than classy' girls wearing barbour.

Whats the general feeling? I dont want to spend £170 on a trashy coat

The one you linked to is fine. The one that people wear to do the school run in their white 4x4 is as common as muck where I am. Think it has Barbour International gold letters on the front.

I think they are a classic and not chavvy at all. Might depend where you are I guess? In Surrey they are very 'in' and I've only seen smart 30+ yr olds wearing them.

Barbour has gone downhill a lot in the last few years though they were never in the same league as Belstaff, frankly their coats are very overpriced and nothing special when you can buy a lot better for half the price.

their rare where I am (East Anglia) I have one.. but... I've had Barbour for years for riding in.. so a bit peeved their fashionable now..
I went to Liverpool recently and had never seen so many non outside countryside type people wearing barbours..
I do love mine.. apart from I recently got asked by a checkout girl where I got my coat from and how much it cost me!!

Barbour is most certainly not chavvy.

However, the jacket you have linked to is a style that I would associate with chavviness.

If it's the name you want, get a smelly green wax one. Will last you the whole of your life to without looking chavvy.

Mosschops buy an Australian "Outback" branded coat, superior to Barbour in every way and cost a lot less. My last Barbour leaked after 5 minutes and fell to bits in under a year.

I think the trouble with the quilted ones is that there are so many copies. I have a black fitted wax one and it's lovely and I've never seen a fake one like it.

I now have an overwhelming desire to wear my barbour tomorrow and hang out in Maccy D's flicking chips at people!

The only acceptable Barbours are the green waxed jackets. Seriously. The rest are def chavvy.

I think less chavvy if 25 years old and covered in mud. I'm hoping.

Sorry must disagree with you about green. Brown here, and not just because of the mud.

It may be a result of when I first became aware of them in the 80s, but I always associate the green waxed ones with "young fogeys" and voting Tory.

For that reason, I can have nothing to do with them.
