for a wedding

I ordered the belt they recommended, not the blue one but the one in the photo, & it doesn't look right somehow. Should I order the blue one or order something else (cheaper!)

And jewellery & shoes? I think peep toe would look nice maybe?

As far as jewellery is concerned would this be too much? I really like it but not sure if it would go -again look at photo of dress on model she has chunky necklace..

dress

necklace

thank you

bump, anyone please Sad

Wouldn't go for the necklace, but the belt would be good and some nice earings. Don't think there is enough room in that neckline for chunky jewellry.

MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 19:28

Great dress!

It's very a 40's / 50's looking cut but they seem to jsut have styled it with as many of their products as possible for that one shot, looks great on her but not really a look for us mortals. The belt is beautiful, love that too, the blur in the photo has made it look silver but it's white IRL, from what I could see. The necklace crowds the neckline, not a good look if you can't photoshop yourself an extra long neck before you wear it Wink

Are you sure it actually needs a belt? It doesn't look like it to me at all. I can take one, of course but I wonder if you might be making things unnecessarily hard for yourself! How does it fit?

What sort of budget are you on for all these accessories?

MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 19:38

Is that a soft, pale grey in the print with the three major blues, or is it a aple blue? Oh, and I'm seeing the background colour as white, but is it cream?

accessorieshelp · 23/08/2012 19:38

you're right there doesn't seem to be a lot of room for a necklace and looking closely it seems that they've folded the dress back a bit on the model's neck.

er yes MrsLettuce I was disappointed that I didn't look like the model when I put it on!! Although it is lovely and am very pleased with it all the same.

The belt is a bit white IRL, more pearlized. I think it does need a belt to accentuate the waist. Just wondering if the blue belt would be better? (don't know if you can see it..)

As for the fit, the waist is quite high, & length on me (5ft 4) is below the knee.

If I went for the blue belt (or another belt) I thought maybe some pearl earrings would be nice (or too twee?)

As for budget, shoes max £60 preferably, belt no more than the one they suggest (£32), earrings £30 max?

oh bag - hadn't really thought of that and loathe to spend on a bag I will never use again, so will probably use something I already have or borrow something (or have a look in a charity shop).

not doing hat, fascinator or anything like that. Not doing cardi/jacket will just have to freeze as I'm over budget as it is

OP posts:
lalaloopylou · 23/08/2012 19:40

I would just keep it simple and let the dress speak
No belt and accessories wise just keep it simple 1 or 2 bangles or a cocktail ring,
Wouldn't say big earrings I'd go with studs or something small or maybe a fascinator/headband with flower on king of thing
Shoes; peep toe definitely or maybe wedges

lalaloopylou · 23/08/2012 19:44

Sorry didn't see your most recent post
The white belt sounds nice
Pearl earrings sound perfect
I would go with the peep toes if the dress is long, wedges will look to heavy
Are you based in the uk? New look is good if you're on a budget and I imagine they have an end of season sale at the moment
I think debenhams possibly have a sale on too

accessorieshelp · 23/08/2012 19:46

background colour is white and the other colour is a bit greeny, sort of minty green

OP posts:
accessorieshelp · 23/08/2012 19:48

thanks lala, like the idea of a bangle or two

the pearl earrings I have in mind are studs, or if I have my hair up I might go for a little drop

will have a look at New Look thank you, and Debenhams.

MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 19:50

It's an utterly beautiful dress but to freeze for it, really? If the basic 50's shape suits you can get a similar style for quite a lot less. That is a particularly delightful cut and print though, I must say.

so, 120 for shoes, jewelery, bag & belt. That should be more or less doable.

Would you like to see some other 50's dresses first though, I mean no pressure but I'd hate you to have a crap day for feeling cold...

MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 19:51

you'll need your hair up because of the bow at the back of the neck, hair down would be all lumpy.

Pearl earrings and bangle(s) would be perfect.

accessorieshelp · 23/08/2012 20:06

sorry MrsLettuce appreciate the thought but I like it too much and it's the print in particular that I like (plus the cut is nice)

I did consider this cardigan cardi because I would wear definitely wear it again but maybe it's too casual?

yes you're right, hair would be lumpy at back and it looks better with that neckline at the front too

scaredycat12 · 23/08/2012 20:18

What about this in dark petrol?

accessorieshelp · 23/08/2012 20:26

that's a good price scaredy, am wondering whether the ink colour would look better rather than matching the blue completely...?

although now I'm thinking picking up the minty green could look really nice

OP posts:
accessorieshelp · 23/08/2012 20:34

sea green

wouldn't really keep me warm though

OP posts:
MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 20:54

I don't blame you. I'd give my eyeteeth for it!

Actually, a cropped cardy would be in keeping but I don't think you'd get one on with out creasing the shouldery / sleevy bits of the dress horribly.

How about:
[ [a white pashmina]]
blue belt?
pearl bracelet to match the earrings (natch)
shoes
bag

Anything like?

MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 20:58

Sorry! posted a smidge to soon...

Meant: white pashmina and blue mango belt or blue pashmina and same mango belt in white.

accessorieshelp · 23/08/2012 21:09

if only you knew how long I've been obsessing about the dress, thinking it's too expensive but it came down (a bit) in the sale yesterday so I pounced on it!

Love the blue belt, not sure about the bracelet, would prefer something simpler I think, shoes are great but a bit too high for me (pathetic I know) - I think max 4 inches? (I didn't look at the measurement for them but they look well high)

like the bag too but only with shoes IYKWIM

so you think pash rather than cardi?

OP posts:
DaPrincessBride · 23/08/2012 21:10

Gorgeous dress!

Perhaps navy shoes?

Navy

Nude will always work

Feeling brave

accessorieshelp · 23/08/2012 21:13

I do have these shoes which I bought for my original outfit which I really wasn't happy with especially as I really wanted this dress! But I'm just not convinced that they go. They would 'do' if I didn't get anything else but I don't want it to spoil the dress

thanks daP, I like them but 1st one is wide and I have silly narrow feet, and the second two, if only I could walk in them Sad

OP posts:
scaredycat12 · 23/08/2012 21:17

I think you should avoid black accessories as the dress is mainly white.

How about these shoes to keep with the shades of blue scheme?

MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 21:17

it's an amazing dress and because of the fabulous print and vintage cut it won't date at all. Damn good buy I'd say!

Definitely pash rather than cardy, yeah. And the shoes / bag, as a rule you generally shouldn't be matching them anymore, it tends to look a bit dated (thus aging). IME black with vintage cut dresses is one of the rare exceptions. Will have a root about for more stuff.

On reflect i qute agree about the bracelet, way too fussy.

scaredycat12 · 23/08/2012 21:20

Love these but not many sizes left in stock

MrsLettuce · 23/08/2012 21:21

x posts there. The nude shoes wouldn't work, no.

better bracelet?
